MOVIE REVIEW: BACHANAA AE HASEENO

Starring: Ranbir Kapoor, Minissha Lambha, Bipasha Basu, Deepika Padukone, and Kunal Kapoor.

Genre: Love

Director: Siddhartha Anand

Banner: Yash Raj Films

Bachna Ae Haseeno is a bland dish without substance by director Siddharttha Anand. The story revolves around four characters - Raj Sharma (Ranbir), Mahi (Miinisha), Radhika (Bipasha) and Gayatri( Deepika Padukone).

Raj Dharma is a casanova by nature with a flirtous attitude. A happy go lucky guy, Raj has no room for love in his life. The first girl who becomes the target of his flirtatious nature is Mahi who meets Raj in Switzerland, where both are spending their holidays. In a similar format to Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Mahi misses her train to Zurich and Raj comes forward to help her. Mahi starts getting attracted to Raj and soon falls in love with him. However, love seems to be a game for Raj and when Mahi finds out the truth, she is deeply hurt.

As soon as Raj reaches Mumbai he meets the next girl in his life Radhika. She is an upcoming model who Raj gets attracted to and they end up having a live in relationship. One day Raj gets a great opportunity in Sydney and he decides to take it up and so Radhika suggests that they get married. Yet Raj leaves her waiting in court and flies off to Sydney. One can feel the pain that Radhika goes through as she is completely in shock!

In Sydney, Raj meets Gayatri who is a taxi driver and once again the attraction phase starts. He falls in love with Gayatri and proposes but Gayatri refuses! For the first time Raj releases the pain one goes through in rejection and to make up for his past mistakes he returns to India to apologize to Mahi and Radhika. And then a predicitable end as Raj returns back to Sydney to find Gayatri who loves him dearly.

Though the film has beautiful cinematography and great music, it just can not make up for the lack of a good story line. Ranbir has done a good attempt at playing a casanova but some how he just does not fit the role. With his chocolaty and cute looks, audiences just may not be able to digest such a character from Ranbir. Bipasha and Minissha are great in the film and really leave the audiences feeling touched. Deepika is average and could have gotten more of a substantial role in the film to prove her acting abilities.

Coming from a Yash Raj banner and with the hype that the film has had, audiences will have a lot of expectations which unfortunately may not be met. A weak plot line, a predictable story and a script that lacks substance make Bachna Ae Haseeno a huge disappointment. Word out of Mouth may see the film's collections dropping as this is the third film this year by the Yash Raj Banner which once again lacks in the kind of quality expected.

Bolly Curry Rating: 2 Chillies Out of 5, A story lacking substance and a weak plot and script.
