Filmmaker Karan Johar acknowledges the popularity of shorts films across the globe, and understands that there is currently only limited space for the format in Indian cinema.

"Short films are made world over and celebrated world over. India has a very limited space for short films. But I am glad it is being propagated. Sometimes even a 15 to 20 minute film can leave a lasting impact," Karan said here.

After 18 years in the business of cinema, the 40 year old has ventured into a short film for the first time. He did it for Chivas Studio and roped in Shakun Batra to direct the project, titled "Strangers In The Night".

The format of short films is as effective as a feature film, says Karan.

"The film is equally glamorous. This is the first time we have produced and directed a short film. I thought Shakun Batra would be the right choice. He is very crisp in his narrative and very stylish in his approach to cinema. He was a perfect choice," said Karan.

Batra earlier directed Karan's production "http://img.india-forums.com/crop/285x190/86625-ags52df6.jpgkk Tu".
