RGV explores new underworld in 'Satya 2'

Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who explored the Mumbai underworld as a subject for his 1998 crime thriller "Satya", says its sequel explores a new kind of underworld which he believes can spring up anytime.

The trailer of "Satya 2" resonates his thought.

"Underworld is no longer the same as it was in the period of 1997-2004. But then something else comes... (when) you think that something is completely gone and will not happen again, that is when it comes back," the 51-year-old said here Monday at the first look launch of the film.

"A unique kind of underworld can come now which will completely make the other underworld look like nothing. That's the point (of the film)," he added.

Varma's fascination with the underworld as a theme for his movies also reflects in his other movies "Company" (2002) and "D" (2005).

Varma is known to launch new faces in the industry and "Satya 2" marks the debut of three young actors - lead actor Puneet Singh and actresses Anaika Soti and Aradhna.

While "Satya" marked the arrival of Manoj Bajpayee, "Company" was the debut of Vivek Oberoi. Besides, Varma gave Urmila Matondkar a huge platform through "Rangeela" in 1995.

Varma agrees there are "certain characters where you cannot do without established stars because you can use their baggage to push the character". But that does not apply always, according to him.

"Satya 2" is slated to release Oct 25.
