My ultimate goal is to win a National Award: Alia Bhatt

From the chic girl in Student of the Year to the power packed performance in Highway, Alia Bhatt has proven her mark in Bollywood. In a chat with india-forums.com, Alia speaks about her career, her equation with Varun Dhawan and her aim to win a National Award.

You are only four films old, so how does it feel to do different kind of roles?

I feel a film like Highway, obviously I won't get every week. But surely I want to do more films like that. But that stop me from doing the other genres. Like in 2 States, even though it was a love story, my character was much matured, so that was a big difference. I need to keep the audience excited about my role. Like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania and Student of the Year is not the same kind of film for me. Student of the Year, more honestly was Varun and Sidharth's love story, I was the kabab me haddi (laughs). Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania is a rooted heart-land love story.

How much of Kavya is Alia?

Kavya is a Kareena Kapoor fan; I am a Kareena Kapoor fan. But Kavya is more of a Kareena Kapoor Lehenga Fan. She is a simple sweet girl, at the same time no one can mess with her. On that note I can relate to her. I am a very feminist kind of a person.

How do you think has Varun Dhawan evolved, from Student of the Year to Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania?

I know Varun as a human being. I have constantly been in touch with him during Main Tera Hero as well. But what I have realized about him now, is that he treats a scene like his character, he is not thinking like Varun anymore. Which I think is a great achievement in just three films. I managed to do that only in Highway.

Is there a sense of competition between Varun and you?

No. Both of us won't do that, because the minute you are trying to be good for yourself it affects the scene. Like in some scene if I am supposed to stand still and Varun has to say some dialogues, I won't overdo with expressions where people look at me, no, people have to look at Varun.  Even Varun is like that, he will not try to take away a scene from me. Insecurity is something I hope and wish never comes in between the both of us. (Smiles)

Of lately you have had quite some accidents, so do you think is some bad omen or sheer coincidence?

I am a very strong believer in enery and nazar and karma and all that. But I am also one of those people who doesn't take herself too seriously. As long as I am alive in one piece its fine.

Are you expecting any awards this year?

Oh, it would be amazing if I get an award! I will be so happy, but I am not expecting it. It will go to Kangana only I am sure. I already got a Stree Shakti Award for power packed performance in Highway.

How important is it to get an award?

How much ever people lie, it is very important to get an award. Everyone wants that one award on his shelf. My ultimate goal is to win a National Award for some film in my career.

Do you have any plans to work with your father, Mahesh Bhatt?

Like he always says he doesn't have scripts for me. Like I loved Citylights, I want to do a film like that which has an intense and emotional subject, and I want Mohit (Mohit Suri) to direct it and I will make sure that happens.
