The 7th of March marks the birthday of not only India's, but also one of Hollywood's most esteemed actors. Starting another new chapter in his life as he celebrates his 58th birthday is veteran actor, Anupam Kher.

Best remembered for his comical and supporting roles, Kher is one of those lucky actors to have worked in various languages - from critically acclaimed south-Indian films to different continents of English movies as well.

Kher made his acting debut in Bollywood with the 1982 movie, Aagman. While the

film didn't do so well, he was seen in various other supporting actor roles such as Saaransh, Ram Lakhan and Vijay. He even won several Filmfare Best Actor awards for these supporting roles. However, whenever his name is mentioned, one can usually imagine him in fatherly figure due to his appearances in later renowned movies such as Tezaab, Dil, Saudagar(1991), Hum Aapke Hai Kaun?, Darr, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Veer Zaara, Mohabbatein, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Khosla ka Ghosla, Vivah, Dabangg and the recently released Special 26 where he plays an elderly figure.

Other than supporting roles, Kher has won many awards for his comic performance as well, a genre he is incredibly marvelous at. Nevertheless, the biggest achievement of his life would come in the form of the National Awards he has won for his performance in Daddy and Maine Gandhi Ko Nahi Maara, for which he was also a producer of.

Kher has made quite a reputation for himself across the seven seas in Hollywood as well. He has been part of many successful projects such as Bend It Like Beckham, Bride and Prejudice, The Mistress of Spices and the recent Oscar winner, Silver Linings Playbook. He will also soon be seen in the highly anticipated Midnight's Children. Apart from acting, Kher has also tried his hand at being a director by directing the Bollywood movie, Om Jai Jagadish. However, due to it not doing so well at the box office, he discontinued that line of career.

On his personal life, Kher is married to the multi-talented actress, Kirron Kher. Sikander Kher, a director and actor himself, is the son of Kirron and stepson to Anupam.
