Hola peeps!
We're back with our spotlight and under the scanner today is the dude
with the chocolate-boy looks who became quite a sensation in the music
industry with his first individual album. We're talking about the genius
behind Huqa Pani, whose "Channo" was a rage amongst
fans and had the album selling over five million copies worldwide. Yes,
it's Ali Zafar! The multi-talented personality who's not only a singer
but also a musician, composer, song writer, film actor, model and
painter.
Born in Lahore, Pakistan, to Mohammad Zafarullah and Kanwal Ameen, professors at the University of Punjab, most people would have assumed that Ali would also follow in his parents' footsteps and end up in the teaching profession. But right from an early age, Ali had proved that his inclination was more towards the fine arts. The C.A.A. Public School and Beaconhouse School System have the honours of being Ali's Alma Mater and also seeing him top his matriculation year. Ali graduated in Fine Arts from the Government College of Lahore and the National College of Arts and soon took up a job as a scratch artist at the Pearl Continental Hotel in Lahore.
Ali debuted as a singer with the song "Jugnuon se bhar le aanchal" for the movie Shararat. However, it was his debut album Huqa Pani that
made him a popular singing sensation in the industry. The album became
one of the major hits of all time. His second and third albums with the
variety and vocals went on to become hits just like his first. His third
album, with a combination of classical and Sufi music, earned him
respect and shot his popularity manifolds, establishing him as a
versatile musician.
Ali started his acting career with Pakistani dramas such as Kanch Ke Par, Kollege Jeansand so on. Owing to his popularity with his fans, he managed to bag an offer for the movieKhuda Kay Liye by
Shoaib Mansoor. However, he couldn't sign up for the role and it was
then played by Fawad Khan. Soon Ali took a break from acting - except
for his own videos - and after a long hiatus returned to acting in
Bollywood. Ali debuted with the movie Tere Bin Laden which,
though received a lukewarm response, earned him nominations at various
awards including IIFA and the Filmfare Awards for the Best Male Debut. Mere Brother Ki Dulhan gave
him his first commercial success and soon the list started increasing
as he churned out films after successful films such as London, Paris, New York and Chashme Baddoor.
Ali's
talent in his various roles as musician, actor and model have earned him
endless accolades ranging from nominations to awards, the list of which
is quite long. His shelf, today, holds awards from Lux Style Awards,
Indus Music Awards, MTV Style Awards, Stardust Awards and also the grand
Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Awards.
