When we went on the sets of Miditech's Chhoona Hai Aasmaan (henceforth referred to as Chhoona) at Hiranandani Gardens, Powai, we expected a couple of makeshift fighter planes there. But no, the planes that they shoot in are real, and the shoot takes place in Jodhpur.

Jodhpur is where the six actors who play flight lieutenants in the show, Iqbal Khan, Jahnvi Chheda, Manish Paul, Vaani Sharma, Vivan Bhatena, Aparna Kumar and their head, played by Narendra Jha, got trained for playing their part in the show based on life in the Air Force.

When Chhoona started, it was being touted as a sequel to the successful Saara Akaash. But it's turned out to be much more than that and the TRPs have shot up.

So, it was celebration time for the cast and crew just as they were canning the 32nd episode at Chitrath Studios. The cast was dressed in partywear and not in Air Force uniforms as we see them on TV. A cake was cut all right, but only for the sequence which was being shot (so we didn't get to eat any, only the stars did!). Miditech merged real and reel life here for sure.

In the show, the sequence being shot was the small party thrown to welcome and honour Flt Lt Abhimanyu Adhikari (Iqbal Khan) and Flt Lt Sameera (Jahnvi Chedda) who were presumed to be martyrs on a mission as they were crossing the Indo-Pak border. After the shot, there were sounds of 'Cake roll ho gaya' everywhere. As if the cake rolled over and did a somersault! Funny, this shoot lingo.

The shooting went on smoothly after a late lunch except at one point where the assistants were scurrying to find the right script. One of the line producers asks, "Everything clear?"

"Nothing is clear," replies the chief AD, "you have been given the wrong script."

But things are sorted soon, and shooting resumes. The cameraman, who's manning a cool DigiBeta which can be turned upside down with the two levers (can easily be used for Dutch shots, in short), compliments Jahnvi Chheda on her beautiful pink saree, "Looking gorgeous!" She returns his compliments with a humble thank you. Well, looks like the crew also almost always sees them in their uniforms!

Sandiip Sickand, Creatice Director, Miditech, seemed an unsatisfied man even with. "I'm not satisfied… We have to take the show to greater heights," he said. And so your favourite show Choona is all set to offer you more action and emotion.
