Recap :
Iccha is eagerly waiting for her "Happy Birthday "
Today :
Iccha's mom is trying to feed her dinner , a simple meal of dal-chaawal . Iccha refuses to eat it and tells her mother " Why dont you make good food ? Like they have at Manu's hotel ?"
Iccha's mom : Thats not Manu's hotel dear....he only works at it
Iccha : So what...they do make good food dont they ? Like vegetables...gobi , gajar aur haan , paneer bhi
Iccha's mom looks dejected for a while , and then plays up to her daughter 😊
She puts on a "oh-poor-child" look on her face and says " Poor Manu...kya kya khaana padta hai use..."
Iccha : Matlab ?
Iccha's mom : If his mom had been alive , would she have given him all this ? No....do you know Iccha , these vegetables , paneer and all that , they grow in fields...but nice yellow dal and white rice like this....do you know where they grow ? They grow in the fairies' village...
Iccha;s mouth falls open as she thinks about the fairies' village , and her mom feeds her .
The song " Taare Zameen Par" from TZP plays in the background .
Iccha's mom puts her to sleep and sings her a lodi as she falls asleep .
Later at night , a baraati is passing by their house . Iccha wakes up on hearing the sound of all the firecrackers and music and runs to the window and looks out through the bars . She sees the people dancing , the firecrackers in the sky and thinks that her Happy Birthday has come .
She runs back to her mom , wakes her up and tells her " Mera Happy Birthday aa gaya !"
Her mom is confused in the beginning and then when Iccha tells her about the people dancing , she holds her head in despair . Iccha copies her 😆 and says " Come , what are you waiting for , we'll celebrate now ...you will give me nice clothes , good food and everyone will be happy !"
Her mom tells her that there will be no birthday celebration today , its only someone's baraat and then they fall asleep.
Next morning ,
Bajru,Taklu and Kuki [the flower seller girl] were walking to the traffic junction and saying that their "public" is less that day as it is a holiday .
They see Iccha siting dejectedly on the pavement and ask her what happened .
Iccha tells them "Its my happy birthday today.."
The three : Really !
Bajru : Happily Birthday !
Taklu jumps up next to Iccha and starts singing one of those "tum jeete raho" songs . Bajru lifts him up and brings him down saying "Chal utar overactor" 😆
Kuki asks Iccha why she is so upset , she should be happy . Iccha tells her that she's upset because her ammo said there would be no celebration.
The three reassure her and tell her that they'll celebrate her Happy Birthday with jashn and the three go back to Iccha's house.
There Iccha's mom is getting ready to leave and when the kids arrive , she tells them that today is not Iccha's birthday , she says that I just told her that to quieten her .
The kids decided to celebrate nevertheless , because Iccha will feel let down if they go back on their word. So with Chamki's help , they buy some colourful streamers , make some out of newspapers , nick some hangings away from shops 😆 and they get their area all decked up .
Then they fetch Iccha and lead her to the "party" with a blindfold over her eyes .
Iccha opens her eyes but isnt pleased to see the arrangements they've made. She compares the plain , home-baked cake with the three-tire one she'd seen , and all the paper streamers with the colourful balloons she'd seen yesterday . She walks to the side and stands there with her arms folded .
To cheer her up , Bajru,Taklu,Kuki and a whole bunch of other kids start dancing on Pappu cant dance [ totally random choice of song...wud have been better if they'd shown them singing the song actually 😕]
Meanwhile, all the older residents of that area also arrive and Iccha;s mom also comes back from work . They all are very happy to see the kids dancing and everything.
Iccha suddenly screams " Chup!!!"
She then tells everyone " Birthday aise thodi na hota hai....there you have a big cake, sweets to eat , nice clothes to wear , lots of presents..."
Everyone looks surprised and the three kids look rather upset.
Then Iccha starts speaking in an angry tone . She picks up the cake and shows it to everyone " Yeh cake hai ? Cake hai yeh ? Yeh cake hai ?!" and then she throws it onto the ground in a huff .
Everyone is taken aback . Iccha's mom is extremely upset and angry at her behaviour and she slaps her
Iccha starts crying . All the people leave slowly , leaving her standing alone amidst the streamers .
Iccha's mom picks her up and makes her sit in her lap. She explains to her that all this is a matter of destiny , that those children have their destiny , and she doesnt .
Iccha tells her to bring her destiny then .
