Anandi is in the kitchen making rotis while reciting a poem. Gehna comes there and asks her what she is doing. Anandi hides her book. Upon asking, Anandi tells her that Bhairav had convinced the school headmaster to let her sit for exams. Gehna is very happy. She tells Anandi that she is very proud of her. If only she had also paid attention and studied when she was at her parents, then her life would probably have been different. She asks Anandi what she would like to eat. Anandi asks for Gatte ki subzi.
At the dinner table, the men and Maasa are sitting to eat. Maasa and Basanth scold Bhairav for being so generous and lending more money to poor people. Maasa warns Bhairav to stop lying to her. Suguna goes to the kitchen to get pickles. She sees the dish with gatte ki subzi. Thinking her mother had made it and forgot to take it, she carries it to the table and serves it to Maasa. Maasa tastes the subzi and realises that Gehna made it. She throws the dish across the table and yells at Sumitra. She accusses Sumitra of still being friendly with Gehna and letting her cook for everyone. Sumitra is confused, but says nothing. Maasa keeps yelling at Sumitra, who just cries and listens. Anandi tries to speak up, but Suguna tells her to keep quiet since Maasa would get angrier. Maasa is so angry, she gets upset and starts to cry. She tells everyone that she is stern for her own family's sake and if her family didn't agree, then she would leave the house. Everyone is shocked. Maasa leaves without eating.
Its Basanth's turn to yell at Sumitra.He also thinks Sumitra is siding Gehna. Bhairav tries to tell Basanth that they had to first ask Sumitra. Basanth silences him. He warns everyone that if anyone went against Maasa again, he would be forced to do something drastic. After he leaves, Suguna and Anandi come crying to Sumitra and explain what happened. They apologise to Sumitra since she had to suffer. Bhairav listens to all this and leaves upset. Suguna consoles the children, telling them its not their fault. Gehna is watching all this and feels bad
