Pyaar Ka Bandhan starts with the introduction of a poor mother named Bijoya. She is a widow who is suffering from cancer and has four kids. The eldest child is a boy named Debo. Then there is second eldest Kajol, followed by third youngest Sujoy and youngest sister Mishti. Its a Bengali family and show starts with Durga Puja in a Kolkata atmosphere.

Bijoya is a dabbawali by profession and she has one best friend named Anjoli who tries her best to save Bijoya's life.

All hopes crash after the doctor says they wont be able to save Bijoya. Bijoya's brother refuses to give shelter to her four kids after her death. In distress Bijoya decides to put all her four kids in an orphanage so that they can be adopted by good families. One day she takes her kids to an orphanage and leaves them without letting them know that their mother is going far away from them (dying). Bijoya disappears forever (no word of her actual death) and those four kids cry for a while but then start living their life in that orphanage. The elder sister Kajol knew about her mother's illness and she tells it to her other siblings so that they don't misunderstand their mom ever. Anjoli has no idea where Bijoya has gone or where her kids are.
Then a very rich couple Mr. Vikram Rai and Sonia Rai come to the orphanage for adoption because they don't have any kids and out of the four they choose Mishti for adoption because she is very young and she might not remember any of her siblings or her past once she grows up.

In this way the youngest sibling Mishti is separated from her three siblings, and the show takes a leap when all the kids are grown up and busy with their own lives. Mishti is introduced first, renamed as Araina Rai. Her new parents, particularly father Vikram Rai, love her dearly. Araina has forgotten her past and knows only her family. She has studied abroad and has grown up in to be a rich spoiled brat.

Araina's father Vikram is overprotective about his daughter and loves her more than his own daughter Suhani, who was born after adopting Araina. Suhani is not Araina's blood sister, but both treat eachother with lots of love and respect. Suhani does not know that Araina is not her blood sister yet. Suhani is lovingly referred to as Sumo and she is a bit insecure about Araina because she feels Araina is beautiful while she is fat and not so attractive. She feels that her father loves Araina more, however this has never stopped her from loving Araina.

The Rai family is very good friends with another business family. Enter: Shashank and his family. Shashank is one of the male leads. Shashank (Shanky) and Araina are best friends since childhood. Whereas Sumo has a secret crush for Shanky. Both families think that its good if Araina and Shanky marry each other because they are perfect for each other but Shashank-Araina make it clear to their families that they are just good friends and nothing else. Shashank is like a Casanova who doesn't take life seriously but his life goes upside down when Sumo tries to commit suicide for him by hanging herself from a ceiling fan. She felt Shashank loves her sister Araina, unaware that both have stated they feel nothing for each other. Everyone comes to know that Sumo is in love with Shashank and so Araina requests Shashank to marry her sister. Now Shashank has no option but to say yes for the marriage for Sumo and Araina's sake because they are all childhood buddies and he can't see them unhappy. He loves them both as friends and will do whatever is needed for their happiness. All of a sudden Shashank is tied up in a forced relationship but his flirting still continues. Presently Sumo and Shashank are engaged.

Shashank and Araina/Sumo's grandmothers respectively. They were once college friends.
At the same time they show how Anjoli sees Vikram Rai and Araina. She remembers that this is the same guy who adopted Mishti. Basically she found out that the four siblings were in an orphanage but when she reached there all four were gone. So she is trying to locate them. She runs towards Mishti to tell her about her past but somehow Vikram stops her from doing so and later warns her that Araina is his daughter and if anyone tries to tell her about her past then he might even go to the extent of killing her. Araina's father is so overprotective about her that he doesn't want Araina's past to come out at any cost but Araina's mother Sonia feels otherwise. She thinks there is no harm is giving out her past because if Araina truely loves them then even after knowing the past she will come back to them but Vikram is adamant.
The other three siblings' stories come into light. The eldest brother Debo is adopted by a politician and renamed as Milind, who has become a gunda. He is the right hand man of that politician who helps him in all his election plans. He also takes care of politician's daughter Devika. The politician has more faith on Milind than his own two useless sons. Milind is a very rough guy and because of his troubled childhood he wants only power and position in life but he does remember his past and about his three siblings.

Sujoy the third child is introduced as the adopted son of a Muslim lady, renamed as Aziz. Aziz is working for Vikram Rai and he and his mother stay at Rai family's outhouse. He is a faithful servant of the Rai's but as destiny has it neither he nor Araina have any idea that they are lost siblings. Aziz does have the photo of his biological mother Bijoya and remembers three siblings from their childhood.
Araina on the other hand remembers NOTHING. In fact Araina hates Aziz the most because her father always sends Aziz as her bodyguard everywhere. She once attempted to frame Aziz in a controversy that almost led Khala (Aziz's mother) and Aziz to leave the house. But the issue was cleared and Araina said a fake apology to keep Khala (a woman who took care of her since childhood) in the home. She still hates Aziz whereas Aziz considers Araina like his younger sister.

Back to Milind who is a Hindu fanatic because the politician for whom he works, believes in winning votes with his Hindu "vichars" ;Milind doesn't take kindly to Muslims and cannot tolerate them. When Milind and Aziz meet as strangers at a Durga Puja festival they have a tiff. Milind feels a muslim should not come in a hindu festival.
Now, the politician's daughter Devika is Araina and Sumo's friend; Many a times Milind escorts Devika to Araina's house and ends up meeting Aziz. So they (Milind and Aziz) always have this war of words regarding their ideology. They both remember their childhood but have no idea that they are brothers.

And now we have the eldest sister Kajol! She was not adopted, unlike her three siblings, and after growing up she started staying in a house on rent. The owner of the house treated her like her own child and she in turn addressed her as Buaji. Kajol herself named herself as Prateeksha because she feels her motto in life is to do prateeksha (wait) for all her lost siblings. Thus Kajol is Prateeksha. Prateeksha (Prats as she is referred to at PKB Forum!) has done a PH.D.

Prateeksha's buaji has fixed her marriage to a guy named Prashant (Lallu). Prateeksha got engaged but she doesn't love her fiancee.

Onto the love story of Prateeksha and Shashank!
Shashank, Araina's best friend who is forcibly engaged to Araina's sister Sumo has also been forced by his father to join their business and start working. This marks Prateeksha's entry in Shanky's life, as Shashank's associate. Shashank initially rejected Prateeksha because of her behenji look. He wanted a HOT girl you see😛, but Sumo wanted to keep Prateeksha only so that she doesn't feel insecure😉. We have typical boss-associate scenes starting them out, but then slowly Prateeksha's thoughts started influencing Shashank and not only did Shanky mature, he grew to like Prats. At first he used to get hurt when Prateeksha told him that he is a sort of guy whom no one can take seriously and so he made it a point to be more responsible and try to win Prateeksha's heart. Slowly both started falling for each other but were tied down with their commitments. Shashank with Sumo and Prateeksha with Prashant. Deep inside they both were madly in love with each other.

Shashank slowly realized that he is not in love with his fiance Sumo and so its unfair to marry Sumo. On the other hand Prateeksha's fiance is one greedy fellow who is interested in Prateeksha's money which she had kept for her lost siblings. He is fooling Prateeksha by telling her that he wants money for home loan when in fact he is using Prateeksha's earnings for his personal loan that he has taken from some local goons. His mom too is involved in this.
While all this is happening, Prateeksha became good friends with Araina and Aziz. She meets them often because of working with Shashank. Both Shashank and Araina's family are also very fond of Prateeksha and this makes Prateeksha more guilty of the fact that she is breaking these two families' trust by falling for Shashank.
Meanwhile,Vikram Rai finds out that Prateeksha is Araina's sister and he becomes obsessed with getting rid of Prateeksha from their lives. One day when Prateeksha's buaji goes out of town, he sends "fake" relatives of buaji to Prat's house, and they tell her to vacate the house at the very moment. Prats walks the streets homeless when some old-age home people tells Prateeksha that she can get shelter with them but on the condition that she has to leave her present job and work in that old-age home only. This was done by Vikram to see to it that Prats has a place to stay at least, but also gets out of working with Shashank. Prateeksha has no option but to agree to their condition. She is about to leave with them when Shashank comes in time and asks Prateeksha to come to his house and stay there till her buaji returns and clears the matter. In this way because of Vikram Rai's stupidity,Prateeksha now starts residing in Shashank's house and therefore comes even more close to Shashank 's family and Aaraina. Vikram's plan fails and he is worried thinking what if Aaraina finds out that Prateeksha is her sister. Everyone is still unaware of PraSha's relationship.
Sumo comes to know that Araina is not her real sister, meanwhile, but she promises Vikram that she will never let out to this truth to Araina because she loves her dearly and today because of her she is getting married to Shashank. Sumo however is still unaware that Prateeksha is Araina's lost sister, like everyone else, except Vikram.
While the PraSha love is affair is going on, Araina too has her love interest in play in the form of a horse-trainer Raunak, who is appointed by her father Vikram. Raunak is second male lead.

Raunak is a cool dude and a typical cow-boy with attitude and doesn't take Araina's nonsense at any cost. Araina is desperate to get his attention because he is the first guy who is not at all interested in her. This makes her insecure, so we have lot of hide and seek scenes between these two, where Aaraina tries her best to put Raunak down but always the opposite happens. He once saved Araina's life as well, when she sat on a mad horse and then fell down😆😳.

But now Araina has a problem. She has slowly realized that she likes Raunak but Raunak is showing some interest in another girl named Jyoti. Jyoti is Raunak's best friend's wife, who was in the army and died. Jyoti is left widowed and pregnant, so Raunak is extra-protective about her. Aaraina misunderstands, thinking Raunak is having some affair with Jyoti and humiliates him and Jyoti at her sister's sangeet ceremony. Later she came to know the truth and she apologizes to Jyoti and Raunak for her stupidity. However Raunak doesn't accept heartfully and decides to resign from the job and go to Shimla with Jyoti. Raunak is there only till Aaraina's father Vikram finds some other horsetrainer but Aaraina is trying her best to win Raunak's heart. Finally with the assurance of her friend Ishita (who also liked Raunak but let him go for Araina), as well as her good deeds, she apologizes and confesses her love to Raunak. Raunak in turn accepts his feelings for Araina through a passionate kiss. Everyone is still kept in the dark about their budding romance as well as PraSha's affair.
Meanwhile Shashank passionately confesses his love for Prateeksha and states that he will tell Sumo the truth. Prateeksha however cannot break Sumo or Aaraina's trust and so she rejects his love.
Later Shashank finds out that Prateeksha is indirectly selling herself to her fiancee Prashant. Prateeksha is forcibly marrying this guy so that Shashank can marry Sumo. When Shashank realizes this, he tells Prateeksha that he will marry Sumo for her sake, as long as you DONT marry Prashant. However Prateeksha's conscience brainwashes her mind by telling her that if she doesn't marry Prashant then even Shashank will never marry Sumo, He is just saying that to win her over; so its better she marryPrashant. Prateeksha fulfills Prashant's demands for money as a "downpayment" on their "home" by selling her mothers kangan's and giving Prashant 7 lacks that she saved for her siblings. She is willing to give him all the money he wants so that he marries her.
Now, during a merger episode (with baytaab dil ki tamana) Prateeksha falls week for a slight moment and admits she loves Shashank. While both are in a deep embrace, Aziz hold witness to the truth of PraSha. He is shocked to see Prateeksha in Shashank's arms and feels she betrayed the trust of this family and poor Sumo. Aziz is in double minds whether to tell this to Vikram or not.
Meanwhile Prateeksha realizes that she did a blunder by confessing her real feelings to Shashank and so she again moves away from Shashank and asks him to forget everything and go back to Sumo.
In this same merger episode Aziz finds out that Prateeksha is his lost sister Kajol and so he is again in double minds whether to support his sister's love or to be loyal to Rai family; therefore he doesn't tell Prateeksha that he is her lost brother Sujoy and instead requests her to keep away from Shashank to which Prateeksha agrees. Eventually though even Prateeksha finds out that Aziz is her brother when she sees Bijoya's photo in his house and this way both brother sister meet. Prateeksha promises that she will never come between Shashank and Sumo.
Same day Prateeksha discovers Prashant's reality and comes to know that he is using her money for his own personal gains and not for any home loan. Seeing this Aziz asks Prateeksha not to marry such a cheap guy but Prateeksha still decides to marry him just to keep Shashank away from her, who has become devdas in Prateeksha's love. Shashank is so heartbroken that in a drunken state he ends up entering Prateeksha's room to ask her why can't he be with the person who he loves the most.
Next morning Prateeksha decides to leave Shashank's house after what happened last night,but Shashank asks for one last chance to prove his love for her and so he takes her to his Bua's place where both PraSha learn about how love knows no boundaries when they hear Bua's love story.
Meanwhile everyone is busy with Lori celebration but Aziz wonders where Prateeksha went with Shashank without informing him;So he manages to reach Bua's place where PraSha had gone together
and once again Aziz misunderstands PraSha after seeing them together at Bua's house;Aziz feels that Prateeksha has betrayed his trust by continuing with her relationship with Shashank.
On the other hand cracks start to develop in Raunak-Aaraina relationship as well when Raunak realizes that Aaraina feels embarassed to hold his hand in public mayb because he does not belong to her class;So Raunak gives an ultimatum to Aaraina and tells her that if on Sumo's wedding day she doesn't hold his hand and take him to the wedding then he will believe that she never considered their relationship as a serious one and so he will go away from her life forever.Aaraina is in a fix now.
After PraSha comes back from Bua's house,Aziz confronts Prateeksha and decides to break off all ties with her because of her betrayal;Prateeksha tries to explain her POV,but Aziz is in no mood of listening to her and he decides to tell the truth about PraSha affair to Sumo now.But neither Sumo believes Aziz's words nor Aaraina believes him;They both feel that Aziz is lieing about PraSha.
On Sumo's Mehndi day,Shashank tries to tell the truth to Aaraina but Shashank's father somehow stops Shashank from telling the truth to anyone sinse his marriage with Sumo can only bail them out of financial crisis.Meanwhile Prashant comes to meet Prateeksha on that same mehndi day and tries to blackmail her with few photos of her and Shashank just to get more money from her😡;Prateeksha refuses to give him any money on which Prashant starts beating her up;Seeing this ,Shashank goes running outside the house and beats up Prashant;Shashank's dad somehow manages to stop the fight but later his dad offers money to Prashant and asks him to get married to Prateeksha tomorrow itself
After all this Prateeksha finally decides to leave Shashank's house and marry Prashant for the sake of Sumo's happiness but Shashank puts one condition in front of Prateeksha by telling her that if she marries Prashant then he will never marry Sumo but if she doesn't marry Prashant,only then he will b ready to marry Sumo.
So then next day when Prashant is waiting for Prateeksha in the temple for marriage,Prateeksha comes there with the police and gets Prashant arrested in fraud and blackmailing case👏;Same day Shashank too is suppose to get married to Sumo,when Prateeksha calls up Shashank and tells her that his condition is fulfilled and so now its his duty to marry Sumo😭;Before deparating forever,Prateeksha wants to meet Shashank for one last time;So they both decide to meet near a shopping mall before the marriage.
Meanwhile Sumo is getting ready for her marriage but she wants to get a guitar for Shashank as the wedding gift and so without telling anyone,she goes out of the house in her marriage outfit only to get the gift for Shashank.
Here Aaraina is in dilemma as she is confused what to do with Raunak's ultimatum when Ishita(Aaraina's best friend) makes her understand that "Pyaar kiya toh darna kya";So finally Aaraina decides to go and meet Raunak and do whatever he wishes..
PraSha meets for last time near the shopping mall and also hugs each other for one last time😭when Sumo sees them together sinse she had come to the same place to get the guitar;Sumo realizes that whatever Aziz said was true and that PraSha love each other;She is completely shattered now and starts walking on the road in a depressed manner when a car comes from behind and hits Sumo;So she meets with a tragic accident when Aaraina sees this sinse she too was going to meet Raunak in her car;Aaraina steps out of the car and was running towards Sumo when she too gets hit by another car;This way boththe sisters meet with an unfortunate accident.PraSha comes to the spot and takes them to the hospital asap.
Both PraSha starts feeling guilty for the accident as they believe that all this happened because of their love only😭;Sumo dies and Aaraina slips into coma after the accident leaving the Rai family completely shattered😭;Milind investigates about the accident but reaches to a conclusion that it was just an accident and not a murder case;Rai family is still not aware of PraSha affair;Shashank lies to everyone that Aaraina only called them up after the accident because of which they both were present on the accident spot;Only Shashank's dad knows the truth now..
Doctor then informs that Aaraina's both the kidneys hv failed and so Prateeksha is brought into the picture who donates her kidney and gives a new life to Aaraina;Even Aziz and Milind donates their blood for Aaraina sinse all the four siblings have the same blood group;Finally Aziz realizes that Prateeksha's intentions were never wrong and that he always miunderstood her.
But both PraSha goes through their guilt trip sinse they feel that they both r responsible for Sumo's death;So Prateeksha finally decides to leave the city and go back to Kolkata;Aziz tries to stop her but his efforts go in vain😭;Shashank is completely shattered after getting the news that Prateeksha left the city but after reading her painful letter he decides to wait for Prateeksha's comeback.Shashank then decides to travel with Rai family all the way to London for Aaraina's further treatment.
In Kolkata ,Prateeksha tries to give away her life by getting immersed in Ganges but Devi maa saves her life yet again and here we see a lady helping out Prateeksha when she was in her unconscious state;The lady is none other than Bijoya.She is alive and is staying in one Kolkata's Lodge;But Bijoya is unable to recognize Prateeksha whereas Prateeksha was unconscious,so she couldn't see her mother.Once Prateeksha gets back to her senses ,she leaves the lodge and this way Bijoya and Prateesha don't meet.
Side by Side Milind's love story is also shown with a girl named Radha with whom Milind always shares his emotions and feelings;Also after donating blood to Aaraina,Milind realizes that both he and Aziz share the same blood and so his hatred for Aziz goes away completely
Then a 6 months leap is shown .After 6 months,Aaraina comes out of Coma and they all decide to come back to Delhi.Rai family and Shashank lies to Aaraina that Sumo is in delhi;Meanwhile Prateeksha is settled in Assam .She is shown married and wearing a mangalsutra😲;She gets one letter in which its written that her bua passed away and so even she is forced to go back to Delhi again..In Delhi ,Milind has become a huge politician now and so he even refuses to identify Aziz which hurts Aziz a bit considering the fact that 6 months back they had become good buddies after they both donated blood to Aaraina..
At the airport,both Shashank and Prateeksha have few hits and misses but both fail to see each other;Prateeksha reaches her bua's house where she finds out that Bua has named the house in her name and now Bua wants her to build an orphanage in that house but the lawyer says that Bua's relatives r not ready to give the permit for this orphanage and so she will hv to get the signature of a minister.The minister is Milind here..
At Devika's house,her father organizes a huge party to announce the engagement of Devika and Milind😲;Milind is still in love with Radha but he decides to get engaged to Devika to become a high ranked minister;Even Devika is not too happy with the engagement but she is going with her father's wish;Shashank's family and Rai family too reach in that same party;Prateeksha too reaches there to get the sign of the minister;Again here there are few hits and misses between PraSha..
Prateeksha is told to wait in another room where she ends up meeting Aaraina but she tries to ignore her and run out of the room;She runs outside the house and bumps into Shashank there;Finally they come face to face after 6 months;Inside the party Aaraina comes to know from a girl that Sumo donated her eyes to that girl after her death😲;So she comes to know about Sumo's death and is completely shattered
Meanwhile Prateeksha tries to excape from Shashank but somehow he gets hold of her again;Then because of some unwanted events,both get stuck up in a jungle together;Shashank enjoys the moment with Prateeksha but Prateeksha feels she has lots of resposibilities to fulfill once she gets out of the jungle;But Prateeksha hides the secret about her marriage to Shashank for reasons best known to her😕.
Next morning finally they get out of the jungle when a police officer escorts Prateeksha to her hotel where we find out that Raunak is Prateeksha's husband now😲;Both Raunak and Prateeksha get a new house in Delhi sinse Raunsk is transferred permanently to Delhi now;Raunak decides to start a fresh life with her sinse in all these 6 months they hardly got time with each other to which even Prateeksha agrees;Both got married under some weird circumstances which is kept a suspense at the moment😉..
As destiny would have it,Prateeksha ends up getting a job at a company which is recently taken over by Aaraina's dad and Shashank
;So once again Prateeksha becomes Shashank's associate but Prateeksha refuses to continue with this job;Even Raunak agrees with her decision when he finds out that Aaraina too is involved in that company
Meanwhile Aaraina comes to know from Shashank that Prateeksha has donated her own kidney to her and so she manages to get Prateeksha's new address and reach her home to thank her😃;Prateeksha tries her best to hide her photo with Raunak from Aaraina😕
In the office when Prateeksha goes to give her resignation,everyone requests Prateeksha to continue with this job till the project is over as only she can prepare apt balance sheets and presentation for this project;Even Aaraina pleads in front of Prateeksha and so finally she agrees😃;Shashank is happy to hv Prateeksha back in his office;He is now hoping to revive his estranged relationship with Prateeksha;Both PraSha shares some passionate intimate moments in their office washroom after which Prateeksha realizes that its wrong to keep such feelings for Shashank anymore but Shashank is unable to understand why Prateeksha can't give one last chance to their relationship;He is unaware about her marital status and so is Aaraina;Aaraina even decides to search for Raunak now;Aziz too meets Prateeksha but even he doesn't know that she is now married to Raunak
Meanwhile Milind's love story is also going side by side;He wants to hv Radha in his life as well along with Devika but Radha is not ready to b a keep in Milind's life👏;Milind is marrying Devika only for money and power but in his heart he still loves Radha
Even Prateeksha is still in love with Shashank but she is now married to Raunak ;Why Raunak-Prateeksha married each other is a secret which will be revealed soon to us.
In the office Aaraina comes to know about PraSha affair finally and Shashank is forced to reveal the truth regarding Sumo's accident but Aaraina acts all good in front of Shashank and tells him that she has forgiven and forgotten everything ;But later its shown to us that she is burning in her revenge as she feels that PraSha are responsible for Sumo's death;She knew this even before going to coma but she wanted to hear the confession from Shashank's mouth;Her motive in life is to torture PraSha by making them work together in the same place because she knows that Prateeksha is hiding her marital status from Shashank and so she wants Shashank to get close to Prateeksha and this way torture them both sinse even though Prateeksha loves Shashank she would not be able to go close to Shashank due to her marital status and Shashank will keep wondering the reason behind her continuous ignorence.,.this way she can torture both PraSha;But Aaraina is still unaware that Raunak is Prateeksha's husband..
Aaraina suggests Shanky to propose Prateeksha in the project-success party to which Shanky agrees;Prats was skeptical to attend the party but on Aaraina's request she agrees;Now it remains to b seen what will happen in this party.
