Hc Fc "Prem's Avatar as Papa-II" pg 30!!

*Note: My apologies in advance for the lack-luster of this FC...*

Over the years, we have seen HC do it all - a negative role, a reserved, usool-wadi cadet, akshat - a cool college kid type, Gaurav: an over-the-top take life as it comes kind of character, and, Prem: both as an intense lover, and as a typical husband - harboring the good and the bad.  Now HC is back with another avatar, again different from what he's depicted before.  For the past two months, we have seen HC enact the role of Prem as a father.  

Many fans of KDM had wished to see Prem in this avatar, and shortly after the show took its 6 year leap, their wish was granted. 

This FC aims to highlight HC in this new avatar, Prem in his new role, as a Papa'



Since the moment HC hit the screen with his new co-actor Muskaan, their jodi has endeared the hearts of many.  They were an instant hit from the moment the audience first saw them share screen space on SBS, and their popularity has only grown with their consecutive scenes together in the show.




In the initial SBS, the first thing that came across was how well the two got along'and how much they seemed to enjoy each other's company.  Other than the fact that HC is an extremely amiable person, their chemistry can only be attributed to the fact that HC seems to become child-like in her presence.  He himself becomes a kid, thereby allowing not only for a mutual comfort level between the two, but also some fun and masti.  It was that first video, those first few moments of interaction between HC and Muskaan that caused a spark and made the fans eager to see more of this to-be father daughter duo.



On July 10th, the wait was over, and we finally got to see our beloved Prem interact with his Chahat for the first time'at the time when Prem wasn't yet aware that this small firecracker was a product of the love that he and his beloved Heer shared.

July 10th, 2009:  Prem & Chahat Meet for the 1st Time'

In this first video, Prem is walking through the gardens at their new hotel in Delhi where he accidently runs into Chahat.  Let's just say that they don't get off to a good start'Prem stands contemplating his loneliness, thinking about how he will never have children to carry on his name, when Chahat's ball hits him, and causes the mitti to spill all over his clothes.  Naturally, a disturbed Prem blows up at this masoom si jaan for interrupting his thoughts.  Par Chahat bhi toh Prem Juneja ki beti hai.  She retorts just the same - claiming Prem has no right to yell at her in such a manner'moreover, she tells him that he should speak to her respectfully, and put his head down. 😆 Appalled, Prem drags Chahat into the hotel to complain to her mother about her behavior.



The first encounter was fun, to say the least.  We have seen HC interact with children on the show before, but we've never seen him scold a child in such a manner.  This side of Prem was new, thanks to his new outlook on life since Heer had left him'a life he perhaps didn't wish to live anymore.  Needless to say, it was great watching a big business tycoon like Prem Juneja scold the girl so confidently, and then to see him go flat as if the wind had been knocked out of him when his firecracker of a daughter retorted the way she did.  She scolded him back, and it struck the right chords - it was a direct blow to Prem's ego which made him storm off, Chahat in tow, to complain about the little 'menace'.



Cut to the next scene - Same day, just moments later'

A scared Chahat stops in her tracks as Prem is taking her to go complain to her mother.  She sweetly says that she is afraid her mother will get mad if Prem complains, and asks him to let her go - to which Prem says he won't.  Chahat again tries to coax him by apologizing'and with her adorable "sorry", Prem's heart melts.  They share a cute moment discussing the fact that they are both afraid of their mother before Prem says 'bye' and walks away.  As he is going, Chahat calls him a "khadoos" behind his back, which Prem overhears.



The scene was extremely endearing, from the moment Prem mimicked Chahat with a "nahi jaane dounga naa", where HC's child-like essence really came out in that one line of this scene.  On the whole, HC nailed the scene.  The gradual melting away of Prem's anger from the moment he walked into the hotel lobby extremely perturbed at Chahat's antics, to the moment when he admitted to being afraid of his mother too, was perfectly depicted.  Throughout the scene, you could see the change of emotion on his face and body language.   When Prem said 'bye' to his Chahat, it left the audience craving for more interactions between the two.

July 23rd, 2009...Chahat and Prem at the Marriage Bureau

The second time Prem and Chahat meet one on one'and nothing has changed.  Chahat enters the scene yelling at Prem.  She scolds him as if she was his mother, telling him that he was in her mumma's office, not some playground.  She goes on scolding him as he looks on intriguingly at the way she is yelling, and then tries to make excuses for himself.  The next bit just evokes a fit of giggles, as HC goes into full-on kid mode, and bickers back and forth with Chahat.  When she threatens to take him to her mother and complain, he willingly obliges, until Chahat has a change of heart and decides to forgive him, as he had forgiven her.  Next, she ever so sweetly asks him to get married soon so that her mother doesn't have to worry about how they will manage to pay the bills.  This leaves Prem hurt and deep in thought about how he has every luxury, while his Heer and Chahat have a hard time making ends meet.





This scene displayed a full package of emotions from HC.  By now, Prem had found out that Chahat was his daughter, so upon first seeing her walk into the office, we saw him look at her warmly, his face lights up as he just takes in the sight of her.  When she began to scold him as if she was his daadi, we saw the sher in Prem Juneja turn into a purring kitten, as he stumbled to find an excuse for himself.  When that didn't work, the kid in him come out as he proceeded to argue with Chahat.  And finally, we saw a loving, caring father experience a deep sense of pain upon becoming aware of his child and her mother's obstacles.  The scene was a full-on emotional roller-coaster, and HC segued from one emotion to the next seamlessly.   If it wasn't apparent before, this scene was a true testament to just how adept HC is when it comes to acting.

 

~*~Third Time's a Charm~*~

It seems this clich saying was true for Prem-Chahat when they met for the third time.  For once, Chahat didn't yell at Prem.  Instead, it was the beginning of a friendship - from Chahat's perspective, anyway.  In the scene, Chahat congratulates Prem for his upcoming engagement, and thanks him for taking her advice and getting married so soon.  Chahat then goes on to introduce Prem to her favorite toy, Toto, and Prem offers to buy her more toys just like that one.  Chahat declines the offer saying it will upset Heer, and Heer will get mad at her.  Next, Prem crouches down to Chahat's level and again childish tone Chahat, asks her to explain to her mother that its not good to be so angry all the time.  Chahat retorts saying that her mother told her not to talk to strangers, to which Prem says 'but I'm not a stranger'I'm your client".  Finally, Prem is left heartbroken all over again when Chahat says that her mother has been upset since she's realized that Chahat talks to Prem. 





While this scene was sweet, it was simply heartbreaking.  Prem was anyway heartbroken about the events that had just transpired between Heer and him when he bumped into Chahat.  He interacts with her with a heavy heart until she expresses the extent of her happiness to him, which makes him break into a soft smile.  It was endearing to watch realization dawn upon him as his daughter introduced him to her best friend'someone he had the misfortune of not knowing 'til then.  We truly saw the 'papa' in Prem come out at that moment, as he had an overwhelming desire to fulfill his daughter's wish of having more toys.  His aspirations were shattered as he realized he perhaps didn't have that right on her.  The next bit lightened the mood for just a moment as Prem kneeled and spoke to Chahat in a whiny tone'and the very next moment was heartbreaking again, as he realized Heer did not wish for him to interact with their daughter.  Overall, a heavy-hearted scene, but Prem's interactions with Chahat were spot-on.  HC's command over the emotions he depicts is awe-inspiring as he smiles, jokes, and speaks to Chahat, keeping Prem's underlying udaasi in tact.

July 31st, 2009...Prem goes to Chahat's school for the 1st time'

Prem goes to Chahat's school to meet her slyly so that Heer won't find out.  Chahat sees him and calls him uncle, and he asks her not to call him that.  When Chahat asks what she should call him if not uncle, mann hi mann mein, he says 'papa', just before Chahat asks him why he is there and what he has hiding behind his back.  Prem reveals two Toto-like toys that he has brought for Chahat, and Chahat becomes elated over Toto's new family.  When Chahat explains to Toto that he has a family now, a mother, Prem inquires as to why she forgot all about Toto's father.  This upsets Chahat as she says that everyone has a papa - all the kids in school, and now even Toto, but she doesn't.  She asks Prem why she doesn't have a papa.  Prem, overwhelmed with emotion hugs his daughter for the first time, and thinks to himself that they both have this emptiness in their hearts, one which only they can fill for one another.





The scene is one of the most heartwarming and heartbreaking scenes that these two have shared.  It was also the first time we have seen Prem fully step into his 'papa' role.  From the moment he stood outside her school eagerly awaiting his daughter, to when he was overcome by the lack of his daughter in his life, everything about his body-language and expressions spoke not only of his care and concern for Chahat, but also the immense pain of being so close to his child, yet being so far away.  HC's expressions in the scene were overwhelming, and the perfect blend of a proud papa and the misfortune of a father who can't reveal himself to his child.   The first hug was endearing as Prem tried to nurse the pain buried deep in both their hearts with that one hug.  All in all, a beautiful father-daughter moment.

The perfect picture:  Father/daughter sitting on a bench having a heart to heart.  Prem listens intently as Chahat complains about the fact that Heer doesn't tell her anything about her father and attempts to cheer her up.  Chahat cheers up and gives Prem a 'thank you' hug just when she sees Heer.  She explains to Prem that if Heer sees them together, they'll be in trouble.  Prem innocently turns to her and asks what they should do when Chahat suggests that he hide.  Prem quickly hides behind the bench as Heer approaches, and asks who is hiding behind the bench.  As Heer walks towards the bench, Chahat calls out a warning to Prem, but then twists her words to divert her mother's attention which gives Prem time to escape the scene.  As Chahat walks away hand in hand with Heer, she turns back and waves goodbye to Prem who is left contemplating the irony of the situation.





Another cute Prem-Chahat moment.  HC depicted Prem's pain and concern for Chahat in one moment, but then pushed the pain aside in an attempt to cheer her up in the next.  One can't help but smile every time HC says something in that cute child-like voice.  His asking Chahat about their game-plan to escape the wrath of her mother and his wife was too adorable, but one couldn't help but feel sorry for him as he hid behind the bench, and then waved goodbye to his daughter from afar.  The thing to be noted in all of these scenes is that HC manages to keep Prem's own melancholy emotions underlying throughout the scene as his emotions change otherwise while interacting with Chahat.

~*~An Invitation~*~

August 3rd, 2009...Chahat calls Prem and invites him for her speech contest

Chahat goes to a phone booth outside the schoolyard, and calls Prem to invite him for her speech competition.  For the first time, Chahat refers to Prem as her best friend.  As Chahat expresses her wish for Prem to come to the competition, Prem breaks into a smile, and can't help but laugh as she warns him to stay out of sight so Heer doesn't see him.  Prem agrees to go, saying that afterall, he is her 'best friend'.





This was just a small scene, but had a big impact as we saw Chahat call Prem for the first time.  It also redefined their relationship - in a way that Prem could live with'they were now, best friends.  What father wouldn't want their child to tell him that he is her best friend?  HC portrayed that feeling of great pride and joy perfectly.  Not to mention, you can't help but 'aaw' every time Prem Juneja calls Chahat 'beta'.



~*~Daddy to the Rescue~*~





August 4th, 2009...Prem comes to the rescue as Chahat chokes during the competition.

Chahat goes on stage and picks the chit with the word Papa on it'she chokes as she doesn't know what to say.  Just then, Prem steps in and defines and explains the importance of  'papa' to her.  The scene was a direct lift from KKHH in which SRK does the same for his daughter. 





The way HC emotes in this scene is baffling.  When he first walks on stage, before turning to Chahat, he throws a look of pure contempt in Heer's direction that simply kills - as if he were blaming her for the fact that Chahat doesn't know the true meaning and importance of a father.  Immediately as he turns to Chahat, his expressions relax as he goes on to give a speech about this all-important man in one's life.  The situation is so ironical as he talks about how a father is the first to hold and hug you once you are born, because he never got to do that with her.  His eyes fill with tears and he speaks of a father as being the one who gives you courage and self-confidence'at least he had the fortune to do that in this very scene.  And when he spoke of a father's happiness and sorrows as being linked to your own, the emotions were heartbreaking as Prem's own pain and sorrow exceeded that of Heer and Chahat's.  Though the scene was a direct lift from KKHH, I think its safe to say that HC enacted it just as well, if not better than SRK in the original.

August 4th, 2009...Chahat asks Prem if she can call him 'Papa'

After the speech competition, Chahat and Prem are sitting in the hall, enveloped in a bear hug when Chahat pulls away and thanks him for helping her.  She innocently explains that she didn't know what to say because she's never known a father.  When Chahat asks Prem how he knows so much about 'Papa', he tells her that he has a daughter too - one that is just like Chahat.  Chahat asks Prem how his daughter refers to him as 'papa', and he emotionally manages to choke out the word 'papa'.  Chahat hesitantly asks him if she can call him "Papa" for a while, and when she calls him "Papa" for the first time, an emotional Prem pulls her into a hug. 





These two make for a killer combination'your heart just goes out to them.  They share a beautiful chemistry as their emotions play off of one another.  This scene, for me, was a testament as to how deep HC has gotten under the skin of Prem's character.  Expressing the joy of the first time your child calls you 'father', is something that can only truly be done if one is experiencing it.  How else can someone who has never experienced those emotions personally mimic them to perfection the way HC has done in this scene?  Prem's emotions came off as the perfect blend of "proud papa" mixed with a great joy, but there was that underlying sense of the irony of the situation as well.  It was simply baffling.  The cutest part of this scene, however, had to be the knee shaking bit'and the "I love you, best friend" part'and the flying kiss as they parted ways'. I dunno - this scene was just too cute through and through.

A short scene, but memorable none-the-less.  Chahat tells Prem what happened after her and Heer left the school.  When Chahat asks Prem why Heer didn't scold Prem as she does with every other 'uncle' that talks to them, Prem tells her that maybe Heer likes him.  This 'angers' Chahat, and again she scolds Prem just before saying that she likes Prem a lot, and calls him 'papa' just before Heer walks in.





It was endearing to see father-daughter chat on the phone.  The most enjoyable bit being when Prem said "acha teekh hai, asie daanton toh mat'main tumse bada hoon."  Its fun seeing  Chahat keep her Papa on his toes'abhi se aisa hai toh aage chal kar kya hoga? 😆

August 7th, 2009...Chahat tells Prem she won't call him 'Papa' anymore

Prem goes to Chahat's school to meet her, and brings her gifts.  Upon seeing the gifts, Chahat says they're nice, but her mumma doesn't like him.  When Prem asks if Heer said anything to her, Chahat tells him that she promised her mumma that she will never meet Prem again, and never call him 'Papa'.  She tells Prem to go away, and leaves him heartbroken, standing alone questioning his 'kismat'.





Its not surprising at all that HC is commended for his ability to emote with his eyes.  He hardly said a few words in this scene, but Prem's pain upon losing his daughter so soon came through brilliantly, as did his concern for Heer when Chahat told him Heer was crying.  I've said it time and again, but HC's command over his emotions and facial expressions is simply incomparable.

August 11th, 2009...Chahat takes a fall

Prem goes to meet Chahat at school after she has told him she'll never meet with him again.  When he asks the guard at the school to let him meet her, the guard says that Heer has asked them not to allow anyone to meet Chahat.  Dejected, Prem turns back, wishing to simply hear Chahat's voice just once.  Just as he is thinking this, he hears Chahat on the playground playing with the other kids and goes and watches her from afar.  Chahat falls when she goes to get the ball that rolls away, and Prem rushes to help her up from the other side of the fence.  He extends his hand out to her, but Chahat simply looks up at him, gets herself up, and starts taking backwards steps away from him.  Prem follows her on the other side of the fence and Chahat steals glances at Prem until she turns away from him upon reaching her friends.  Prem watches his daughter turn away from him and ponders over how he must be the most unfortunate father in the world who cannot even help his daughter get to her feet when she takes a fall.





Yet another heartbreaking scene'I'm ready for these two to have fun, lighthearted scenes again.  What stood out the most in this scene was HC's portrayal of Prem's hesitation as he went to help Chahat stand up after her fall.  His transition from concern to helplessness was flawless.  It seems HC does truly live and breathe 'Prem''I simply don't think any actor, no matter how adept he is, can deliver such emotions unless he were to put himself in the character's shoes.  Hat's off, HC.





This has been Prem's journey as a 'Papa' thus far'a few laughs, a few tears, and a plethora of beautiful moments.  I'd say Prem's just as perfect a father as he has been a son, brother, lover.  Here's hoping Papa and his 'Pari' get to acknowledge their relationship before the world, soon'in the meantime, we the fans will be waiting ever so'impatiently'to see more of this dynamic duo together on screen in the near future.

This was the first time the audience got to see Prem and Chahat on screen together'just one day before they would appear together in the show.  From the get-go, their chemistry is incredible.  Its apparent that HC too becomes a kid when he is around her'perhaps that's why he felt awkward when she called him "uncle"? 😆 It comes as no surprise that they had also already planned to indulge in mast together on the sets....we've seen HC in full-on masti mode on the sets on more than one account.  😆  On a more serious note, it turns out HC was right - Chahat brought a new flavor to the show, and their jodi is a hit. 





HC-Muskaan SBB July 13th, 2009

Just a few days after the initial HC-Muskaan interview, SBB came back with another clip of these two on the sets of KDM.  The endearing video starts with the two singing "twinkle twinkle little star", and HC forgets the words'😆'no surprise there. 😆 There are some stolen moments in the video where Muskaan and HC give each other a peck on the cheek. 😳 Then, HC challenges her to see who can say there ABC's faster.  HC goes through his ABC's so fast that poor Muskaan gets confused and just gives up. 😆  Later, it was cute to see HC help her through the ek, do, teen contest, and to hear them speak of their similarities.  With such great off-screen chemistry of HC & Muskaan, its no surprise that the audience would look forward to Prem-Chahat scenes more than anything else these days.
