Lost
Saving Jack

The character of Jack was going to be killed off halfway through the pilot. However proof readers were against this turn in the story and a week before filming began it was decided that Jack was to be kept in. 'You want an actor and someone you can believe in and Jack is that character' said JJ Abrams

Lost
Fox's lucky break
Michael Keaton was going to play Jack, but once it was decided that Jack was not going to die, Mr Keaton was no longer the man for the job as he only really wanted a guest star cameo part

Lost
Engine noise
Parts of the plane crash were shipped back to America and can be heard being used as percussion instruments in the show's score

Lost
Feel the force...
It was a vintage Star Wars T-shirt that bonded Damon Lindelof and J J Abrams. J J Abrams instantly thought Damon (who was wearing the T-shirt) was someone he should be friends with and a beautiful (and successful) friendship was born

Lost
Scaring the locals
The plane came to the island of Oahu on three separate boats, and once arrived was strewn over a quarter of a mile. It looked so harrowing and so realistic that the crew had to put signs up to warn the locals that it was a film set

Lost
Don't I know you from somewhere?
The pilot of the plane that gets mauled by the monster in the first episode of Lost has appeared in many JJ Abrams projects. He plays Eric Weiss in 'Alias' , Sean in 'Felicity' and will be appearing in JJ's new project 'The Catch'

Lost
(Not) seeing red
JJ Abrams had no red in the plane crash scenes. Red was not included in the plane logo and no one wore red clothes. He wanted to make sure that the scene wasn't gruesome and so the only red that would be on screen would be blood. He wanted it to shock and not be gratuitous

Lost
Here comes the rain again
Flash floods during the filming of the pilot drenched all the lights the crew were using. Someone was quickly dispatched to buy as many hair-dryers as Hawaii had to offer to dry out the equipment and save the day!

Lost
The curse of the red shorts
The cast and crew were convinced that JJ's red Bermuda shorts were cursed and they blamed them for everything that went wrong whilst filming. On the last day of filming, they burnt the shorts in a ritual in order to banish the 'bad weather demons' that had cursed them

Lost
Grin and bear it
JJ Abrams was desperate not to use a CGI polar bear in the pilot episode stating 'I promise you there will not be a computer polar bear in this show'. A polar bear puppet was created for the scenes, however it looked ridiculous and not at all scary, especially when fans freeze framed the scene and put it on the internet. JJ succumbed and turned to the powers of technology

Lost
Say cheese
Matthew Fox created a photo book for the crew as a gift. He was inspired by Jeff Bridges who always creates one for each of his films

Lost
Please don't feed the animals
Hawaiian boars are only aggressive when they are hungry. Unfortunately the extras spent all day feeding them so when it came for them to run through the jungle, they refused to move. CGI boars had to be created and later on boars were imported in from America

Lost
Bee-ing there
The bees that cover Charlie in House Of The Rising Sun are real drone bees. They don't have a sting and are docile and robust. Dominic Monaghan is a huge lover of insects and loved having them covering his face!
