The televised version of DDLJ

Neha Maheshwri, TNN | Apr 25, 2011, 12.00am IST

It's been over a decade since Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jaayenge released and everyone still remembers the famous dialogue - Jaa Simran, jee le apni zindagi, which Amrish Puri said to his daughter Kajol in the film.

And now we have an upcoming serial titled Sasural Simar Ka bearing striking resemblance to the film. Very much like a stern and disciplinarian father Amrish Puri in DDLJ who also has two daughters, Pankaj Dheer's character in the show will remind us of Puri.

The character is similar to that of Dilwale's Bauji in other ways too. He doesn't allow his kids to watch television and spend time with friends etc. Kajol played the dutiful Simran paying heed to her father's orders, the protagonist on the show is named Simar. One factor that is common to both the film and the tv show is actress Himani Shivpuri who is playing bua (aunty) to Simar as she did to Simran. And as we saw a carefree SRK greet his father Anupam Kher in a unique way in the movie, Roli ( Avika Gor) and Himani will imitate the popular father-son duo on the show. The initial promos of the show saw Simar prancing to the popular number of Tujhe dekha toh ye jaana sanam. Too much inspiration, no?

I don't think so. Yes Simar can have a dream like Simran of DDLJ. But there is no connection between both. Because both tales completely different stories.
