Shashi Ranjan is a well-known name among the Indian television circuit and has worked extensively on television shows like the Shot Gun Show, Making of a Legend, Without Make-up with Mahesh Bhatt and the Dutch co-production Driving Miss Palmen, among others. He had earlier written-produced-performed in the film Siyasat (Kumar Gaurav, Kimi Katkar). With Dobara, Shashi Ranjan makes his debut in Bollywood as a director.
Storyline
An established writer, Ranbir (Jackie Shroff) is living in marital bliss with his wife Anjali (Mahima Chaudhary). But one fine day, he gets a phone call and everything changes. On the other side of the line is Ziya (Raveena Tandon) his former lover with whom he had a fine relationship pre-marriage which ended only when Ziya turned schizophrenic.
Ziya informs Ranbir of a well-kept secret that tears his world apart. He has a son by his former lover! This son is now purportedly residing with a family in Goa and Ziya wants him to accompany her to wish their son on his birthday. Dumbstruck, he decides to go to Goa with her.
Meanwhile Ziya attempts to convince Ranbir that his wife is cheating on him and succeeds in her plans to a large extent. On the other hand, his wife decides to follow them.
Is Ziya trying to destroy his marriage?
Or, is she just another jilted, anguished woman craving for sympathy?
The tremendous emotional upheaval that each of them go through and how it changes their lives is essentially the story of Dobara.
