Gourav Chanana stalked by female fans

And guess what, the television actor loved every moment of the experience

Aditi Jayakar Kane

Television heart-throb Gourav Chanana, who played Dr. Rahul in Sanjeevani recently experienced one of the hazards of being famous.  He was stalked by fans.

But guess what, he loved it! He recounts the story with glee, "On Thursday we wound up shooting at Future studios in Goregoan at about 9.30 pm.  I left the studio in my Honda City and when I was crossing the bridge to get to Goregoan east, I saw a red Skoda at the signal. A friend of mine has a similar red Skoda so I was wondering whether it was him. But it wasn't. There were two young women in it, instead, who were following me. As I turned left or right, the car too turned, always in sight and trying to get closer. Then I got busy for I received a call and was speaking on hands free for about ten minutes. After the call, I noticed that the car was still following me. I accelerated, but the car kept following. Finally I stopped my car by the side of the road, and the red Skoda screeched to a halt right behind my car."

The girls then got out and admitted that they had decided to follow him after they spotted him at the Goregoan signal. They asked him for autographs and also clicked pictures with him on their camera phones.

"The funniest thing is that they asked me to resolve a fight they had had, on the colour of my eyes. They asked me whether they were green or grey. I replied that they were greenish-grey! That had us all in splits."  How does longstanding girl friend react to such pretty fans of his? "She is very secure and understands that this is a professional hazard!"

Won't he reveal who his girlfriend is? "She is shy. She says she wants to stay away from the media glare," he replies. "We are planning to get married eventually."

Star of the week: By A.L. Chougule

Daughter of an ex-army man, she comes from a Pune-based middle class Maharashtrian family. A post-graduate in business administration, she had a well-paying job in a well-known multi-national accounting firm. Till three years ago modelling and acting was not on her career list. But things took a different turn when the attractive young lady was approached by an ad agency to model for a soap commercial.

It so happened that she worked in the same building that had the office of the ad agency. Modelling opened new opportunities and a new career option. Accounting took a back seat and product endorsement and acting become her first priority. That's Sampada Vaze in real life.

In her reel life role of Tejaswini in Rishton Ki Dor that is the story of love, care and bonding in a middle class family of three sisters and one brother, Sampada plays the middle sister and the protagonist of the show. "Tejaswini is studying microbiology and also works as a nurse in a hospital. She is a smart girl who is very attached to her elder brother and younger sister. Problems begin when she falls in love with a successful engineer who is a womaniser. In spite of belonging to completely different worlds, circumstances bring them together which leads to lot of complications as Tejaswini is torn between the love and gratitude she feels for her elder brother and the passionate love she feels for Rahul Raichand," explains the model-turned actress who has done more than 50 commercials for leading brands like Coke, Sunsilk, Rexona, Gillet and so on.

Acting, as a logical progression to modelling, had to happen. But while modelling was on she didn't think of acting at all. "I was very happy with modelling. It gave me freedom and lot of time for myself. Besides I was dealing with people who were MBAs and professionals and of same mental wavelength as I," says Sampada.

Being a well-known model she started getting offers for acting. "I felt it was time to move on because after doing over 50 commercials cutting across several categories of consumer brands not much was left for me to do," she reasons. Thus Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein, a high profile show that was shot in Singapore and Malaysia, marked her debut in acting. "After that I took a long break," says Sampada who found acting quite challenging. "Acting offers something new to learn everyday," she adds.

So has life. Life was cool in Pune that is one-tenth the size of Mumbai in terms of population. "I was shocked to see open gutters and piles of garbage here," she remembers. "It was frightening to live alone in a crowded city. But then Mumbai is an addictive place and now I can't think of living anywhere else."

Gourav's hilly b'day

It's raining birthdays! After Sandeep Rajora and Riva Bubber, it's aapna Gourav Chanana of Rishton Ki Dorr fame who turned a year older on 15 July.

Instead of hosting a plush bash for his friends, this light eyed actor chose the hills. Yes, the venue in question was not Mumbai but Matheran where he ganged up with select friends. "I have turned 28 and I chose to chill out with my friends in Matheran as it was a welcome break from the hectic Mumbai life. The mobile network there was sad, so I couldn't get through people calling me, but I got many wishes via sms", says Gourav.

We wish him a belated happy birthday and hope that all his wishes come true…..and also hope that his single status changes till his next birthday!

It's only fair!

Now Urvashi Dholakia sports a peaches 'n' cream complexion. How?

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Acquiring airs, revamping your wardrobe and a change in mannerisms, is not new to the glamour world.  But television actress Urvashi Dholakia has gone a step further -- she has gone several shades fairer.

Recently when she was spotted at Ekta Kapoor's party a colleague complimented on her new complexion. "It's magical. I can't believe it myself. Those people have done wonders to my skin," she said.

The wheatish complexioned actress now sports a peaches 'n' cream complexion thanks to a treatment she underwent. The dermatologists, at a suburban salon, who treated Urvashi have introduced this treatment that lightens your complexion by several shades.

"Initially, I thought that this was the effect of love. She had just started dating Sandeep Chowta," says an actor friend. "But the difference in her skin colour was too drastic. There is a dermatologist who has been working on her skin to get this effect. I'm told that Urvashi is getting ready for a big break."

When contacted, the spokesperson of the suburban clinic said, "Our client list is long and impressive. From Tina Ambani to star wives like Suzanne Roshan to Mallika Sherawat and several models, our customers hail from the A-list. Urvashi's changed look will get a great response."

Urvashi's a supergirl
Guess who's a huge fan of Superman? Urvashi Dholakia. The actress hasn't stopped raving about the Man Of Steel ever since she watched the film. "I couldn't take my eyes off him. Isn't he the most gorgeous thing ever?"
Even though she didn't love the film as much, she wants to watch the film again for Brandon Routh's portrayal of Superman. "I am not a huge Superman fan, but Brandon has turned me into one."
Meanwhile, Urvashi is on her way to becoming a supergirl. She's been spending lots of time in the gym. "I want to tone up. I think it's high time I started taking care of myself." The first few days haven't been really kind to her. "My arms were aching like crazy after lifting some weights. But I have a very good instructor who makes sure I don't give up on my routine."
So Chowta, any plans of becoming Urvi baby's gym partner?

Amit replaces Gourav on RKD

He had just begun to relish the flavour of success, but destiny wanted it otherwise! Gourav Chanana known from the Sanjeevini days, has moved out of Rishton Ki Dor (RKD) on Sony. And to everyone's surprise Amit Sarin of Kkussum fame will be replacing him.

"I signed on because I like the character of Rahul Raichand!"-Amit Sarin

Gourav who will soon bid adieu to the show asserts it was a decision taken by both, the channel and him. Says he, "They are planning to change the track in which my character will not be that prominent. So they asked me whether I wanted to continue or walk out, I settled on the latter."

Gourav confirms that he didn't have a falling out with the channel, "There were no dilemmas at all, and in fact I am very lucky that I was a part of the show. Sony has been very sweet to me," he says.

Knowing the other side of the story, Amit has no qualms about replacing Gourav on the show, and believes that a decision like this depends on a person's perception. "Yes, I will be entering the on going track of the show, and I have no issues. I signed on because I like the character of Rahul Raichand," says Amit. He will soon start shooting for the afternoon series.

Amit was last seen in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, but opted out before the leap. On being asked about missing the show, he says, "Well, Kyunki… was an inevitable part of me, and was extremely important for my career. Though I have no regrets of opting out, I will definitely miss it. Balaji will always be special to me."

And about his singing career, which was more or less a pleasant surprise, he states "Well, as of now that is limited to my bedroom!"

The replacement specialist

He replaced Sandeep Baswana in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi not so long ago. Now actor Amit Sareen will step into Gaurav Chanana's shoes in Rishton Ki Dor. Incidentally, it was the only show Gaurav had on air till he quit. As for Amit, although he doesn't seem to mind the tag, one notices a streak of disappointment as he says, "It looks like I am a replacement specialist, after all. It is quite unfortunate."

However Amit prefers to look at the silver lining. "Perhaps people take time to realise that I fit the bill. Why else would they call me to play the role?" he asks. Talking of his role in Rishton Ki Dor, he says: I liked the character, so I chose to do the role."

The actor was first noticed for his role as Kshitij in Kkusum. Ever since, he has played important character roles in television serials. Five years into the industry, Amit is still waiting for his a lead role in a television serial. However he claims: "A few offers did come along but somehow things didn't work out."

What Gaurav says

There have been many theories behind Gaurav Chanana's disappearing act. Some insist that the actor was underperforming; others suggest that he made Anuj Saxena (who plays the protagonist) insecure. Unsurprisingly Gaurav insists that 'the decision was mutual'. He says: "The decision was taken in consultation with the producer. Initially, the role was strong. But now, the track is changing and the story is getting skewed."

Amit Sareen makes comeback to television

In: Amit Sareen will be seen in Risshton Ki Dor pic/SUJeeT JAISWAL

Replaces Gourav Chanana on the Sony show Risshton Ki Dor
Shaheen Parkar
[email protected]

Amit Sareen is all set to replace Gourav Chanana in the Sony afternoon soap Risshton Ki Dor. Chanana's portrayal of the character of the sauve Rahul Raichand, who romances three women, had been found lacking by the channel.
Unit sources reveal that that Chanana was shown the door a couple of days ago and has since stopped shooting for the drama.
For Sareen, this will mark his entry back on the small screen, after playing Kshitij in Kkusum and Saahil in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Earlier, Sareen had also announced that he wanted to do films — something which has yet to take off.

Lacking punch
The reason for Chanana's ouster from this Shree Adhikari Bros production is that he failed to pack a punch in the soap, which itself has failed to garner eyeballs.
When asked about his entry in the show, Sareen preferred to keep mum. "I don't want to say anything at this stage," he says.

And as for his film career, he says, "It's better to talk about it only when things actually take off"

It is learnt that he was approached for Risshton Ki Dor a few days back, and it is almost certain that he will be a part of the afternoon daily. For him, it will be a homecoming of sorts as he featured in Kkusum, which was also on Sony.

Change of track
Chanana was earlier seen in a double role in the Star One daily, Hey... Yehi To Hai Woh.
About his exit from the show Chanana says, "The channel told me about the decision they had taken. They are changing the track. It was all mutually agreed and I agreed to leave the daily"

The cast of Risshton Ki Dor includes Anuj Saxena, Urvashi Dholakia, Muskaan Mihani, Shital Thakkar and Monaz Mevawalla and Sampada Vaze. It is a relationships saga of three sisters and their brother.

It is also learnt that plans are afoot to introduce a new female character in the afternoon soap to provide a much-needed impetus to the afternoon saga. The character is slated to be that of a blast from the past in Suhas's (Saxena) life.
