Episode 21: Before The Sunset
Alaric tries to attack Care and Rebekah at the school and Klaus wants to create more hybrids for protection once he hears about this. Rebekah then leaves because Klaus chooses his hybrid over her.
Stefan, Damon and Bonnie try to figure out a way to solve this Alaric problem.
Alaric calls Elena and tells her he has Care so she must get to the school without telling anyone or Care dies.
Klaus shows up at Elena's house asking for Elena. Stefan and Damon look for her to keep her safe from Klaus but she isn't at the house. Klaus starts throwing things at the house and even is about to set it on fire when they don't let him in. Klaus then he'll join in to take down Alaric before sunset. Bonnie plans to demobilize Alaric like her mother did to Michael.
At the school where Elena has already arrived, Alaric continues to torture Caroline. He offers Elena the stake to kill Care.
Abby shows up to help Bonnie. Klaus tells Stefan that after everything goes down, Elena still goes with Klaus. Stefan tells him that he will go along too then but Klaus tells him Elena should choose who should go along.
Abby warns Bonnie that the spell she wanted to do was not pure. In order for the spell to be successful, a human heart needed to be stopped. Jeremy's house will needed to be stopped to connect to Alaric's blood. Klaus then reveals all of them belong to his bloodline.
Alaric questions whether Elena's parents would be proud of her for siding with vampires. She pours vervain on him and releases Caroline and Klaus arrives while she tries to run. She thanks him and they share a gentle moment. Alaric is unable to kill Elena, something stole him. Stefan, Damon and Klaus somehow make the contact possible and Bonnie begins the spell but the connection breaks. Just before Alaric is about to stake Klaus, Elena figures out that if Elena dies, Alaric dies. Her threat to kill herself causes him to stop.
Klaus is draining Elena's blood out completely and Elena requests Tyler to get Stefan but Klaus tells him to "get the bags"
Alaric informs Stefan and Damon that Klaus is going to kill Elena. He tells them to save her life before she dies.
Klaus points out that Elena is destroying the brothers by coming between them so technically he's doing her a favour by killing her.
Tyler begins to untie Elena once Klaus leaves but he comes back. Tyler tells him he's not sired anymore and he's not his "bitch" anymore.
Bonnie gets a connection with Klaus's heart and he gets killed during the spell.
Elena tells the brothers she can't bear the thought of losing one of them since she's lost so many. Matt, Caroline, Jeremy, Tyler, and Bonnie are having a small victory party in her kitchen like old times.
Apparently Alaric has called an emergency council meeting. He reveals that Mayor's son is a half vampire and the Sheriff's daughter is a vampire in front of the rest of the council.
The two brothers agree that if Elena chooses one, the other leaves town. "she's a pretty special girl."-Damon.
Jeremy is worried about losing Elena.
The episode ends with Elena fainting with her nose bleeding.
