Shilpa Anand was born in South Africa, and went to school there. She studied at the Punjab University, obtaining a Masters in Computer Applications (MCA), from 2000 to 2003. After completing her education, she moved to India along with her family and then she started her acting career in Mumbai.
Before her first movie, Shilpa did many adverts on television with many famous Bollywood actors such as Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan etc.
She got her first lead role in the Bollywood film Iqaar By Chance as Rashmi Mehra in 2006. She rose to stardom when she starred in the television series Dill Mill Gaye, in which she played theprotagonist of Dr. Riddhima Gupta which made her a popular face of the TV world. She was nominated at several Awards ceremonies in 'Best Actress' category for her role in the show such as 'New Talent Awards in 2008'. She won the award alongside Karan Singh Grover for the best on-screen couple in August 2008. Her contract with the production house ended in June 2008 and this consequenced her leaving the show and her role of Dr. Riddhima Gupta.
After two years, she signed a contract for her return in the show in June 2010.
In 2011 she signed to appear as one of the leads in the movie titled Alert-24/7 co-starring Sanjay Dutt, Ruslaan Mumtaz and Raveena Tandon. She will play an investigating journalist. About the role, she says "I am an outgoing journalist who doesnt have any fears and can approach anyone with her questions. I will be seen opposite Ruslaan Mumtaz. The movie is a take on corruption in politics." The movie is set for late-2012 release date. Shilpa is also set to appear as the lead in Arup Dutta's film Bloody Ishq in 2012.
