Riya, fortunately recovered from the trance in record time. "Thank you, sir."
Arjun silently turned his gaze towards the sea. Riya looked around and was able feel the serenity. She stood there along with him staring into the sea.
She turned towards Arjun. His silence was freaking her out now, it felt very creepy. Well, his silence has been something she had always loved. She could just stare at him and lose the track of time. But now, it felt creepy, it felt very uneasy.
"Sir? Aap theek tho hain na?" she asked not able to control herself anymore.
He turned towards her, with the same serenity in his eyes.
Riya was shocked, "Sir aap theek hain na?" she asked a little more worried.
"Kyun Riya? Aise kyun pooch rahi ho?"
"Pata nahin, bahut ajeeb lag raha hain mujhe'"
He smirked, in fact smiled, "Shayad sea sickness hoga."
"Kya?" Riya shook her head. "Khair chodiye'" she was about to say something else when her phone rang. She looked at the number on the screen and her facial expression changed. She became pale and Arjun noticed it. Riya didn't answer the call, simply set the phone into silent mode. Her phone buzzed again. This time Riya was worried, "Excuse me sir," she said and went a little far from him to answer the call.
"Hello, chaachi boliye."
"Riya, tumne kuch socha uske bare mein?" a woman's voice said.
"Nahin, mujhe thoda aur time chahiye."
"Theek hain beta. Lekin decision soch samajh ke lena. Tumhare iss decision hi hamare parivaar ka bhavishya decide karegi'"
"Haan, chaachi. Mein kaam me busy hun. Baad mein baat karoongi." Riya cut the phone and returned to stand beside Arjun.
"Woh dekho, pahunchgaye'" Arjun said pointing out the resort that appeared at the horizon.
"Already?" She checked her watch. They would reach the resort in another five minutes. That means she had been standing in silence with him for so long!
They got down at the 'docks' on the resort. Exotic feel at its best, one could say.
"Lagta hain iske owner ke paas koi khazana hi tha jo ise aise banvaya hain. Actually, owners. Paanch businessmen ki collaboration se bani hain. They have equal shares in this." Riya told Arjun who was helping her with the bags.
Riya took the passes out of her bag and checked in at the main gate. The passes were marked and then they were allowed in.
"VVIP ho, ya koi aur, har kisi ko iss security check se guzarna hoga," Arjun told Riya.
The Asst. Manager again appeared out of nowhere. "Aap kahan gaayab ho gaye? Maine socha aap mujhe batayenge utarne se pehle. Ek minute," he said to them and made a call.
No sooner did he make the call than a black Civic appeared in front of them. Arjun and Riya got into the back seat of the car and the Manager sat in the passenger's seat in the front.
"Hum pehle hotel jaayenge sir, jahaan Mr. Saxena hain," he explained to Arjun and Riya.
Arjun just nodded at him.
They were escorted into a five star hotel. The Asst. Manager told them the location of the Manager's cabin and left.
"Riya main kamre ke keys le ata hoon pehle. Samaan wahan rakh ke manager se milenge," Arjun said, "Tum yahi raho."
Riya nodded. "Kamre ki keys huh?" she thought, "Ek hi kamra'!" Riya had goose bumps. "Uske bare me socho mat Riya. Tere liye vahi acha hoga," she warned herself.
Arjun came with the keys and handed them over to her. A man came along with him to carry their luggage upstairs. Room no. 502, yes that was their room. The man after completing his work, left beaming as Riya had tipped him well, that left Arjun staring at her with raised eyebrows. She just smiled at him which meant, "Karna padta hain sir." Arjun just shook his head and opened the cupboard to put his bag inside.
Riya looked around. The room was beautiful. A combination of white and rich maroon. It had a beautiful view of the resort. She opened the balcony doors and stepped into the huge balcony. She spread out her hands to feel the breeze. Her hair flew with wind making her look angelic. Arjun felt the breeze as it swept past him. He was near her, yet she was oblivious to his presence. It was pretty cold out there; it had rained the whole night. So the weather was a little mellow.
Riya rubbed her hands and murmured, "Beautiful." A smile crept onto his lips again, involuntarily. He wasn't surprised anymore. He used to be when it started happening to him initially. He was angry and confused. Everything that he thought was destroyed started budding again. It felt harmless, yet he controlled himself and failed miserably doing so. He thought it would never happen to him again. Being affected by somebody would never happen again. It was her, and after her, he thought, never again.
But Riya? She was an enigma. He thought he had her all sorted. A silly girl with high ambitions. No, she was something else. Something amazing. Yes, she had all the courage one needs to face this world. She seems fragile and weak; she is anything but that.
He was okay with it now. He was okay with the little smile that appears as a reflex whenever she does something childish or unexpected. Something silly, yet beautiful.
Yet, he also knew something else. His feelings for her weren't love. To him love meant Roshni, and it would never be someone else. To him Riya was sort of a favorite person on the team. A comfortable partner to work with. She was his best student. She was great girl, an amazing human being.
And God sat there in his abode smirking at his own creation.
"Ignorant humans!" he thought. "Time has come Arjun. Time has come for you to
experience being in love all over again! It is going to be your testing time,
Arjun and Riya. Let's see how you fare in the biggest exam of your life!" He smirked again, satisfied and amused.
