Season Eight, Episode Two – 'What's Up, Tiger Mommy?'

Foreword: I will not explain everything in detail, because that will just spoil your watching experience. Also, I am mostly omitting the funny bits or you'd curse me for the lost fun when you watch it. 😆

The episode begins with its usual 'then and now' montage.

An employee at G. Ball and Co. Trust guides a bearded and lean elderly into a room full of safety vault deposits in Chicago, Illinois. She apologizes for the inconvenience that their building's renovation had caused to the man, to which he says that he has plenty of time. He then tells her that his is 'vaulting no 1' and she quite weirded out already, customarily offers him her safe. He fondles with the box and it reveals a rotting bizarre bone. The girl is grossed out and yet cordially asks him if she could do anything else for him to which he says he'd like to 'withdraw' something, smiling maliciously. The girl screams and the vaults are sprayed with her blood.

A scene change to Dean, Sam and Kevin at a local restaurant, Dean accuses Kevin to be insane as he expresses the wish to go and see his mother. Kevin lashes out at Dean and tells him Janine's broken neck mattered to him and doesn't want his mother to end up like that. Although Dean tells him that his mother is actually being protected by Crowley at the time, Kevin makes them all drive to Neighbor, Michigan to check on Kevin's mother.

Dean's assumptions turned out right as Kevin inspected his house with a binoculars. The gardener and the postman were both Crowley's demons which end up dead in this classy way by means of Sam and Dean's excellent skill with the demon-killing knife. Kevin's mother is shown talking to a possible neighbour/friend when she hears a knock at her door. It's Kevin. She's at a loss of words and is about to embrace her child who'd been missing for a year when Dean and Sam splash holy water on her both sides to confirm she's not a demon. Sam can smell sulphur anyway, and has to reverse-exorcise Ms. Tran's friend as the demon tries to leave her body. They kill her and Kevin's mother is beyond shocked.

They relate to her the entire episode and that Kevin's the Prophet of the Lord. She gathers all the information and argues with Dean to come along with them to find the Word of the Lord, the tablet which Crowley is after. Kevin doesn't object on his mother's coming along. The boys inform them that they'd have to get 'inked' (tattooed with that signed which keeps demons out). Later they go looking for the tablet at the Wyoming Bus Depot where Kevin had hidden it. Dean verbally marvels at how Kevin had found nothing but a diaper bag (further hidden in a vault) to hide the tablet in. On asking the depot's head as FBI agents, they discover that they need to be talking to a guy called Clem who's in prison to figure out about the tablet.

Dean retrieves information out of Clem by trying to choke him with his tie. Simultaneously he is revisiting a day in Purgatory where he holds a dagger to a beast's neck to urge him to tell Castiel's whereabouts to him.

The foursome goes to the pawn shop where a frightened Clam had directed them. The owner also refuses to tell where the tablet is, even after Dean's threats. Later Ms. Tran's convincing claim that her brother was a governmental officer at Wyoming forced an address out of him. At that place, Dean is not sure if they are guided to the right place. Enter the right-hand man of Plutus, god of greed. He invites them all to an auction of supernatural objects where he says the tablet will be auctioned too.

No weapons are allowed at the auction place. No one but Dean is ceased by the arms-detecting machine. Later inside the place, Kevin declares that the tablet in display is unoriginal. So the plan they'd made to memorize what's written on the tablet and then do the needful for closing the gates to hell couldn't work. Crowley makes his signature entry and after the usual bickering wishes them good luck. Also, Plutus enters and the event begins.

Everybody goes in but Dean is stopped by a youth who looks like a delivery boy. He reveals that he's actually an angel and has come to ask about Castiel's whereabouts. Dean is evasive. The angel, Samandriel tells him that the only problem with Castiel was that he had too much heart. He leaves and Dean thinks of the time when he and Benny had finally found Cass in Purgatory. Cass looked ragged in his tattered clothes and with unkempt beard. Even after Dean's constant persuasion, Castiel refuses to leave Purgatory with Dean and Benny.

Inside when the auction begins, the foursome's collected money goes futile as everyone made the weirdest bids for those artefacts, no money was involved until the turn of bidding for the tablet came as Crowley offered three billion dollars for it. Samandriel offered Mona Lisa, Crowley offered the real Mona Lisa. During the bidding, Dean discovers a room where the real tablet is hidden. After the most ridiculous bidding of all times, Plutus was still not satisfied so he trapped Kevin as a complimentary object to go along with the prophet as he is the only person who can read it. Linda offers her soul to protect her boy. In frenzy, even Crowley offers his soul to which Plutus informs him that he doesn't have any. The bid goes to Linda as 'she offers everything she has'. An enraged Crowley leaves. The scene shifts to Dean, Sam and Linda sitting together, prepping for the whole ritual of Linda's soul taking. She asks them to leave her alone for a minute.

When she joins them and everyone else, Plutus announces that he doesn't want her soul but only to keep him 'warm at night'. He offers his hand and Lina begins to approach it when Dean and Sam notice that the tattoo on her hand is burned. Then Crowley reveals himself. He's made her his meatsuit! After a chase and Dean's almost killing Crowley/Linda with Ruby's knife which had just retrieved, Crowley escapes and shifts to his regular form. He talks in circles and flees with the tablet.

Kevin's mother is herself again but doesn't utter a word. Kevin asks Dean to shut up and both of them to leave so he can have some time along with his mother. Outside after a few minutes, Dean notices that it's a little too quiet. They enter the room only to find a note that Kevin left behind. He explains by means of the note that he needs to get away from the Winchesters. His words make Dean see himself loosen his grip on a dying Castiel's hand who was pleading for him to hold on. He doesn't stop crying for help but Dean still lets go.

You made me watch the episode again with that brilliantly written update. Even if I hadn't watched it, this update was close enough to the actual viewing experience. Good job! 🤗Edited by herms_angel - 11 years ago
