I think that once Ratan gets to know about her husband she will not be able to take it and she will committ sucide and while doing this her husband will also either go crazy or he will kill himself .
Or Ratan might go crazy and be placed in a mental house or something anyways this is why the little boy will be left alone to raise his sister. I think that Ratan will kill herself and her unborn child and so Ranjiv will go and raise his step-sister by himself.
I think he will come to find out about his parents or what his father did later on in the show
