Dabangg 2' is going strong at the box office, spells profit for all

Mumbai: 'Dabangg 2', the last big release of 2012, seems to cap the year on a profitable note. The Salman Khan-starrer opened with a record-breaking collection of Rs 21.10 crore on the first day and trade pundits predict it will enter the Rs 100-crore club.

Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS that 'Dabangg 2' has opened 'exceptionally well at the box office on Friday' and on Saturday 'collected around Rs.17 crore and is going housefull on Sunday'.

According to him, it is a record breaking opening and that 'Dabangg 2' has broken the record of 'Rowdy Rathore' that opened with Rs 15.10 crore.

A sequel to Abhinav Kashyap-directed 2010 blockbuster 'Dabangg', the part two, said to be made at a budget of Rs 50 crore, marks Arbaaz Khan's directorial debut and repeated the lead pair of Salman and Sonakshi Sinha, while Prakash Raj replaced Sonu Sood as the villain.

Brijesh Tandon said, "In Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, 'Dabangg 2' has collected around Rs 3.40 crore on Friday which was quite expected from Salman's film. We hope the film gets bigger and better tonight."

Anand Verma of DT Cinema informed that at their centres it has got a 'phenomenal response' despite a slow start on Friday morning and most of the shows have been 'housefull'.

However, Vinay Choksey of VIP Movies feels that Monday will be crucial to the movie.

He said: "Today (Sunday) the film is going housefull and it should collect around Rs 20 to Rs 23 crore. We are only concerned about the Monday morning collections. We hope there won't be any dip on Monday."

In Mumbai, according to Manoj Desai, executive director of G7 multiplex and Maratha Mandir, "'Dabangg 2' was housefull at G7 and Maratha Mandir on Friday and Saturday. Even on Sunday the film is going housefull. Now let's see how the film does on Monday."

Will 'Dabangg 2' break the record of Salman's earlier release, 'Ek Tha Tiger', which earned Rs 33 crore on its opening day?

"I don't think 'Dabangg 2' will break the record of 'Ek Tha Tiger', but the film will certainly cross Rs.100 crore without any doubt. Besides, Tuesday is a (X-Mas) holiday, so the film will collect enough on Christmas."

Sunil Bansal of Yash Raj Jai Pictures Pvt Ltd said that in Rajasthan, 'Dabangg 2' amassed around 'Rs 1.25 crore on day one. On Saturday, the film collected around Rs 90 lakh".

Opening in Orissa has been average, according to Jeetu Khandelwal of Movie Pioneers, who informed that 'the film collected around Rs.30 lakh, but it is going housefull on Sunday'.

"Nobody will ever face any loss with a Salman Khan film. But 'Ready' and 'Bodyguard' opened with better collection compared to 'Dabangg 2'," he added.

Manoj Desai, executive director of G7 multiplex and Maratha Mandir said: "'Dabangg 2' was housefull at G7 and Maratha Mandir on Friday and Saturday. Even on Sunday the film is going housefull. Now let's see how the film does on Monady."

Made at a budget of Rs 40 crore, 'Dabangg' had collected Rs 145 crore.

Dabangg 2 Sunday & Opening Weekend Collection Update.

Dabangg 2 has shown jump on Sunday fromSaturday and Friday at the box office. As we have received the sample reports from various centers specially of multiplexes, the occupancies for the day is very good. D2 has registered many Sold Out shows for Noon and Evening shows.

Morning shows started with bang with occupancies of around 70%. After that it registered an occupancies of 85-90% for Noon and Evening shows all India. Night and late night shows occupancies registered drop, but still was above 50% on average. Overall occupancy for the whole day was around 70-75% which is pretty good.

As per early trends D2 should collect around 22-23+ crore nett all India on Sunday. Though it is too early as major single screen reports is still to receive. If reports of SS is good then even 24-25 crore nett is possible. D2 has collected around 21.1 crore on Friday and further 19.05 crore on Saturday. D2 First Weekend Collection is now heading for 63-64 crore nett mark. If this happens it will break the ETT first three days collections by around 3-4 crores. This is fantastic by any means.
One thing is certain that D2 biggest single day collections is definitely short of ETT's 32.92 crore nett mark and this has led to many theories. But, point is that those are benchmark and is not easily breakable. Moreover Salman is now competing with his own benchmarks. Dabangg 2 real test starts from Monday which will suggest what is audience verdict and how it will perform in long run.

DABANGG 2 Finishes Good Weekend One

"Dabangg 2" scored big as per expectations but cricket match coupled with cold weather proved fatal for the film on Saturday. As they always say in trade that a film runs for no reason except audience like it and when a film collects not so good numbers then reasons are plenty.

Though film started well on Sunday with good collections in north and central India. But film did not rise beyond good in many parts after that. Film will collect similar numbers as on Friday at many places like Bihar, CP, Mysore but multiplex dominated areas will show growth due to holiday.

As per early estimates, film should collect 22 cr nett if there is no major change in night shows.Yesterday night shows saw huge drop due to cricket match and if weather does not play spoil sport today then film should end up higher around 23-24 cr nett.

Weekend of 60 cr nett is still very good but by Wednesday we will have the clear picture. Film will jump on Tuesday due to Christmas holiday though again much hyped India Pakistan cricket series will start on 25th.

If 1st week crosses 95-100 cr nett then film has good chance to reach 160-170 cr nett mark otherwise anything below 95 cr nett will put film in tight spot despite having 3 open weeks.

Salman Khan's Dabangg 2 second day collection at Box Office

Arbaaz Khan's first directorial venture Dabangg 2, a sequel to his previous production Dabangg, has seen a drop in its collection at the Indian Box Office on Saturday. The business of the Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer is far better than the collection of Salman Khan's previous release Ek Tha Tiger, which had raked in Rs 14+ crores on its second day. Dabangg 2, which released in 3500 screens in the country on Friday, opened to a thunderous response and collected Rs 21.10 crores nett at the domestic Box Office on its first day. Its collection was far lower than that of Independence day release Ek The Tiger, but the romantic action movie has become the biggest opener of non-holiday Friday, beating the previous of record of Rowdy Rathore. The business of Dabangg 2 was expected to see a big jump on Saturday, but instead of going up, the movie witnessed a dip of 10 percent in its collection. As per early trends, the Salman Khan and Sonakshi Sinha starrer has collected Rs 18 crores at the desi Box Office on the second day, taking its two day total to Rs 39.10 crores nett. Dabangg 2 has been doing a record breaking collection in North India. Traded expert Taran Adarsh tweeted, "INDIA: #Dabangg2 CP Fri 1.12 cr, Sat 90.50 lacs ... CI Fri 89 lacs, Sat 69 lacs ... Rajasthan Fri 1.26 cr, Sat 96 lacs." He added, "#Dabangg2 Sat *estimates* around 17 cr to 18 cr nett." However, Dabangg 2 is expected to have a big jump in its collection at the domestic Box Office on Sunday. Trade experts say that the movie would cross Rs 50 crore mark in the first weekend.
