'We got him!' Fugitive 'bomber' captured ALIVE after he was found hiding inside a BOAT in backyard of Boston home. Cops use flash-bang grenades and gas to flush out Dzhokar Tsarnev

  • Police captured Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, on Friday night after a day-long manhunt using helicopters and heavily armed officers in a Boston suburb
  • Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, apprehended 'covered in blood and hiding in a covered boat in Watertown by homeowner who ventured out after curfew was lifted'
  • He and law enforcement officers engaged in a furious exchange of gun-fire that began shortly after 7.pm.
  • Over 30 rounds were fired in the exchange - as terrified residents of Franklin Street were evacuated by police
  • The stand-off continued until approximately 8.45 p.m. when Boston police announced onto Twitter that Tsarnaev had been apprehended
  • Tsarnaev reportedly surrendered himself to police having been shot twice
  • He was rushed to Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is reported to have lost a great deal of blood
  • He is currently in a 'serious condition'
  • His Miranda rights have been revoked and he is being treated as an exception due to national security
  • Residents were warned to stay indoors amid gunfire, flash-bang explosions and tear gas
  • On his apprehension - jubilant crowds took to the streets of Boston to thank police, FBI and law enforcement officials - chanting 'USA!'
  • Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, killed after explosions and machine gun fire on Thursday night
  • Both suspects are brothers from the Russia region near Chechnya and had lived in U.S. since 2002

The Massachusetts college student wanted in the Boston Marathon bombing was captured wounded, but alive after hiding out in a boat parked in a backyard on Friday evening.

The arrest of Dzhokhar Tsarnaev signaled the end of five days of terror set-off by the double bombing at the marathon finish line and the mayor of Boston, Thomas Menino, was quoted by the Boston Globe as taking to the police scanner to exclaim, 'We got him'.

'I have never loved this city & its people more than I do today. Nothing can defeat the heart of this city .. nothing.'

The bloody endgame came four days after the bombing and just a day after the FBI released surveillance-camera images of two young men suspected of planting the pressure-cooker explosives that ripped through the crowd at the marathon finish line, killing three people and wounding more than 180.

His older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, lay dead in a furious 24-hour drama that transfixed the nation and paralyzed the Boston area with fear.

Relieved law enforcement officers began cheering and clapping after Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, was arrested and is now in a serious condition at
Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and is reported to have lost a great deal of blood.

And thousands of jubilant members of the public took to the streets of Watertown to salute FBI, SWAT, ATF and police officers as they left the scene of Tsarnaev's final showdown.

Neighbors reported that Tsarnaev was 'covered in blood' as he was taken away by law enforcement officials.

Boston police commissioner Ed Davis was celebratory in his tone as he took to Twitter to say, 'It's a proud day to be a Boston police officer. Thank you all.'

'CAPTURED!!! The hunt is over. The search is done. The terror is over. And justice has won,' the Boston Police Department said on its Twitter account.

Police cornered the younger Tsarnaev  around 7 p.m., less than an hour after police lifted a stay-indoors order for the city and its suburbs.

A resident in his 60s, believed to be called David Hanneberry, reportedly went outside to smoke and saw the tarpaulin cover of his boat was disturbed off the top.

Checking to see what was wrong, he investigated and saw Dzhokhar Tsarnaev curled-up inside covered in blood.

He then 'freaked out' and ran inside to call police - who dispatched a helicopter which used thermal imaging to confirm there was a person inside the boat.

'He looked and noticed something was off about his boat, so he got his ladder, and he put his ladder up on the side of the boat and climbed up, and then he saw blood on it, and he thought he saw what was a body laying in the boat,' Henneberry's neighbor, George Pizzuto said to ABC News.

'So he got out of the boat fast and called police.'

EXCLUSIVE: 'Our hearts are sickened by the horror he inflicted': Shocked family of All-American girl who converted to Islam to marry Boston bomber say tragedy proves 'we never really knew him'

  • Slain Chechen terror suspect Tamerlan Tsarnaev was married to middle class college student Katherine Russell, 24.
  • The couple have a three-year-old daughter called Zahara
  • Tamerlan spent every weekend with Katherine's family at their suburban Rhode Island home
  • Bomber's aunt says: 'He has a wife in Boston and from a Christian family, so you can't tie it to religion...he found his love, he married, he had a daughter, and he was very happy about his daughter.'
  • Katherine arrives back at family home at 5pm, flanked by Homeland Security.

The statement was read by Mrs Russell and when asked how her daughter was getting on, she shook her head and said: 'There's nothing for me to say'.

The 26-year-old Chechen ' who was shot dead by cops last night ' was regularly seen at his wife's family home in Rhode Island.

And neighbours today spoke of their shock at waking up to see Katherine's home being raided by the FBI and cops before dawn this morning.

At 5pm today, Katherine was driven back to the house by a relative and flanked by two SUVs being driven by agents from the Department of Homeland Security.

Shielding her face, the young mother, wearing a dark-coloured top and sporting mousy blonde hair, was driven into the garage.

One of the Homeland security cars remained parked by the house. And asked if Katherine had been questioned, the agents refused to comment, but confirmed: 'We are keeping an eye on the house'

Revealed: 'Relaxed Boston 'bomber' partied with college friends two days AFTER marathon massacre
Djohar Tsarnaev

Identified: Boston bombing suspect Dzhokhar A. Tsarnaev, 19

Tsarnaev's nonchalant attitude - a possible attempt to cover his tracks - in the wake of Monday's horrific terror attack was also witnessed on his Twitter page.

At 5pm on Monday - just hours after he and his older brother were caught on surveillance footage coolly walking away from the bomb site - he tweeted: 'Ain't no love in the heart of the city, stay safe people.'

The next day he replied to a tweet claiming one of the fatalities in the bombings was a woman whose fiance was proposing to her.

'Fake story' he wrote on the social media website.

The same day he added: 'I'm a stress free kind of guy.'

According to the page, Tsarnaev was a 9/11 denier and in a chilling post in August wrote: 'Boston marathon isn't a good place to smoke tho'.

The account, confirmed to friends to belong to the terror suspect, makes for haunting reading.

Just months before the tweet he said he was changing majors to try and become a nurse and talked about his work 'saving lives' as a Harvard lifeguard.

'I didn't become a lifeguard just to chill and get paid, I do it for the people, saving brings me joy,' he wrote on May 29.

However, it has emerged he was sacked last summer after he suddenly stopped turning up for shifts, according to a Buzzfeed report.

The Chechen has been described by friends as a 'careful and jovial' student, who has lived in the U.S for a decade and partied 'like a normal American kid' - painting a conflicting picture of a man now accused of terrorism.

It appears he became increasingly radicalized by his older brother Tamerlan with whom he is said to have carried out the deadly attack - killing three and injuring more than 180.

His cousin, Zaur, told the Boston Globe that he 'used to warn Dzhokhar that Tamerlan was up to no good' while Tamerlan's boxing coach said the younger brother would watch him train, 'he idolized him', he told the Boston Herald.

The twitter account portrays two contrasting pictures and hints at a man who suddenly changed sometime last year.

Many of his posts are innocuous references to pop culture, college and women.

He posts hip hop lyrics, talks about his love for TV show Breaking Bad and chats to college friends.

But others are serious and appear to suggests of events to come.

On April 21 2012 he wrote in Russian: 'I will perish young' while last month he tweeted 'Never underestimate the rebel with a cause'.

Ladies, for your treat! the man who is deported from Saudi Arabia for being too HANDSOME.

The man in the following pictures below is one of the three men who were deported from Saudi Arablia. His name Omar Borkan Al Gala. He is a Fashion photographer, actor and poet from Dubai.

As a man, I think he is indeed very irresistible to women. Saudi Arabian men's fear that these men will steal their wives' hearts might come true if they let them stay in the country ;)

I'm the father of Michael Jackson's children and I'll take a DNA test to prove it: British actor who says his girl looks just like Paris

Former child actor Mark Lester believes he's the biological father of deceased superstar Michael Jackson's children Prince Michael, 16, Paris, 15, and Blanket, 11, and he's will to undergo DNA testing to prove it.

The Oliver! star alleges the Prince of Pop asked him to donate sperm one year prior to the births of the children, whom Lester claims now closely resemble his own four teenagers.

The Daily Mirror reports the 54-year-old even delivered an impassioned message to the children, with whom he's remained out of contact since Jackson's memorial service in 2009: 'I'm here, come and visit England, we'll look after you.'

The man in question: British actor Mark Lester asserts he may be the biological father of Michael Jackson's children Prince Michael, 16, Paris, 15, and Blanket, 11

Lester asserted he briefly blocked thoughts of the donation process, which occurred in the early 1990s: 'After Michael asked me to donate sperm for him I completely forgot about it.'

Yet speaking to the outlet apparently jogged his memory, as he continued: 'I remember Michael ringing and saying, ''Oh, you don't have any fertility difficulties do you?''

'Then out of the blue about a year later, he mentioned sperm donation and I agreed.'

Severed ties: Lester claims he last saw the three children at Jackson's memorial service in 2009 following his untimely death at age 50

He explained of the slightly uncomfortable process: 'Michael set it up for me to turn up to a clinic in Harley Street, London to do it. It was weird.

'I went in a couple of times to donate but we never talked about it ever again. It was a really strange request but while Michael was alive I never gave it another thought. I didn't donate to get something out of it.'

The two friends met in 1978 after a Jackson 5 concert at London's Rainbow Theatre.

Both grown child stars, they got along swimmingly.

Questionable resemblance: The former child actor, pictured in 1970, is the godfather of Jackson's three children including son Prince Michael, pictured at Jackson's 2009 memorial service

Lester gushed of their relationship: 'We ended up great friends. Michael had so many people and security around him but had very few people that knew him really closely. I became one of those lucky few.'

Their friendship endured through decades, with Jackson even naming Lester the godfather to his three children, born in 1997, 1998 and 2002 with ex-wife Debbie Rowe, to whom the hitmaker was married between 1996 and 1999.

Lester's own four children often spent holidays and weekends with Jackson's offspring.

He reminisced: 'Every time Michael came to the UK, which was at least six times a year, I used to take my children to see his. They always got on really well.

Close friends: Jackson and Lester remained friends for over 30 years, and often spent holidays together with their respective families

Close friends: Jackson and Lester remained friends for over 30 years, and often spent holidays together with their respective families

'We always used to stay at an isolated cottage at the Cliveden House hotel in Berkshire. I even took the kids to his home in the US. We were like one big happy family.'

Still, Lester maintains he never doubted the paternity of Jackson's progeny while the Beat It singer was alive.

Only after Jackson's drug-induced death at 50 did the lifelong pal entertain the idea that he may be the father of the grieving youngsters.

'I noticed the likenesses in my own children and his,' he explained. 'My daughter Olivia looks like Paris. People have also pointed out similarities between myself when I was younger and Prince.'

Quality time: Lester, pictured in 1968, said of his meetings with Jackson's offspring, 'Every time Michael came to the UK, I used to take my children to see his. They always got on really well'

He continued of Jackson: 'He was a great dad to them, brought them up and was brilliant with the kids so I just didn't go there but there is obviously a good possibility (that I could be the biological father).'

After Lester raised the question to the Jackson family, the clan severed ties with the scorned godfather in a move that he deems 'not what Michael would have wanted.'

The family has not responded to Lester's resultant pleas despite his insistence that he remains willing to undergo DNA testing to confirm whether he is the children's biological father.

Friend Uri Geller corroborated Lester's claims in 2009, saying: 'I have no reason to doubt Mark's story, simply because I remember years ago in New York, Michael implied to me that he wanted Mark to help him father a child for him.

Similar features: Lester alleges his daughters Olivia and Harrett, pictured in 2009, resemble Jackson's daughter Paris, pictured in 2012

'Now obviously I cannot be 100 per cent sure that Paris is the biological daughter of Mark. But I remember those words and knowing the relationship that Mark had with Michael and their families and their children and the many trips they took together.

'There was such a very strong bond, that to me, it really makes sense."

Lester, however, adamantly states he will only submit to genetic testing with the approval of the Jackson children.

He remarked: 'I wouldn't have a DNA test without the children's permission but when the children come of age, and it's not far away, and they decide they want me to do it then I will. It is up to them.

Cause for concern: Lester, pictured in 2009 with daughter Harriet, said he began to doubt the paternity of Jackson's children when he 'noticed the likenesses in my own children and his'

'I don't want to tell them what to do. I just want to reconnect and be the godfather that Michael made me.'

Among Lester's other allegations is the revelation that prior to his untimely death, Jackson hid a collection of unheard recordings in a vault in his Neverland Ranch.

The actor said of the unreleased tracks: 'I'm amazed no one has got their hands on them yet.

'He couldn't read or write music so whenever lyrics came to him he just had to quickly write things down. If he got a beat he would tap it out on to a portable tape recorder. The tapes and words exist somewhere because I've heard some of them. One was about a mystery girl.

'I don't know if they were found when his estate was wound up. Either way they will be worth a bit of money,' he finished.

Passport office wants criminal affidavit for infant

NEW DELHI: Imagine a child who hasn't learnt to walk or talk being asked to submit an affidavit stating he has no criminal record or any case pending in court. That is what exactly happened to Ghaziabad resident Sridevi Iyer, when she applied for a passport for her 10-month-old son in February this year.

"It was terrible. We visited the Ghaziabad Passport Seva Kendra on February 21. We had applied under Tatkal and the PSK demanded a standard affidavit (annexure I) duly signed by a notary. It was ridiculous. How can you ask a child to declare that he has no criminal record?" Iyer told TOI.

She and her husband visited the PSK again on February 22 with the affidavit, but they were again turned away. "We were asked to produce a verification certificate (annexure F) issued by a competent authority. Both these documents are not part of the list of papers required for minors as per the website. When we asked why this information was not given in the website, we were told that the 'website is not duly updated'," Iyer said.

Iyer said she had to go to the PSK a third time on March 1 to finally submit the application. "We were told that the passport would arrive in a week," she said.

Last year, when TOI ran a series of reports highlighting the pain of applicants, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) had promised to streamline the process and introduce uniform rules for all PSKs. They had also promised to introduce a manual for all officials, both government and TCS, which is a service provider. A TCS insider, however, told TOI that the process of streamlining is yet to begin.

Not surprisingly, little has changed on the ground. Applicants are still being bombarded with demands for documents, and PSK staffers, as many TOI readers point out, appear clueless and ill-informed about the process.

The problems do not stop there, as Sridevi Iyer found out. "Even after 10 days, the passport didn't arrive; but a policeman did, for verification. Under Tatkal, verification happens after you get the passport. The policeman demanded money for "chai-paani", and threatened to mark a negative report if we didn't comply. We meekly obliged," she said.

But the passport still didn't come, Iyer said. "When we checked with the office, we were told that police verification was pending. We finally got the passport on April 10 ' 50 days after we applied," Iyer said.

Sahibabad resident Satya Deo Sharma missed an international conference because his passport didn't arrive 10 months after application. "They raised an objection regarding my house address, after which I sent a proper reply on March 11, enclosed with all documents endorsed by the competent authority. They haven't done anything about it. My wife Chhaya had also applied for a passport in July last year. She, too, hasn't received it yet. I believe unless the babus are bribed, no work gets done," Sharma said.

Why are documents not mentioned as mandatory on the passport website demanded from applicants? "The Passport Act says that an official may ask for additional documents for his satisfaction. It's an important document so caution has to be exercised while granting a passport. But yes, we are aware that there have been many grievances. People can approach the grievance cell, or write to me if they have issues," said Muktesh Kumar Pardeshi, chief passport officer.

Meanwhile, the consular passport and visa division of MEA wrote to TOI on Monday evening, confirming that action had been taken on all the readers' complaints that we have been highlighting since May 1. The ministry has also requested the individuals to get in touch with the RPO.

Newspaper vendor from Bangalore walks into IIM-Calcutta
N Shiva Kumar, a newspaper vendor, who is all set to walk the hallowed corridors of the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta as a student.
BANGALORE: As the alarm goes off at 4am, N Shiva Kumar is up on his feet, stacking his bicycle with newspapers. He has to deliver them before the sun appears on the horizon. A habit since Class 6, Shiva's life is set to change now. Come June 16, this newspaper-boy-turned-vendor will walk down the corridors of theIndian Institute of Management-Calcutta as a PGP student.

It sounds like a fairy tale, but the TOI vendor who cracked CAT 2012 has indeed grabbed a seat in the premier business school. Shiva, 23, an engineering student from Banaswadi, is the son of an illiterate mother and a father who was a truck driver. He started working as a newspaper delivery boy and for his debt-ridden family of four the Rs 150 he would bring home was a huge relief.

"Every morning people would come home asking my father to return the money he had borrowed. My father had a truck. But there were more liabilities than what he could earn with it. When I was in Class 3 or 4, I sold flowers that my mother strung into garlands by the roadside. It was only later that I found the job of newspaper boy," said the 8th semester computer science student of Bangalore Institute ofTechnology.

Shiva managed the part-time job along with school. "I was studying inan ICSE school. In Class 9, I was asked not to come to school till I paid the fees. The next day, I approached the first customer I was delivering the paper to, Krishna Veda Vyasa, and requested him to fund me. He hesitated, and said he didn't even know me. I asked him to do a background check, and he found I was the topper there. I requested him to pay one term's fee, but he paid for the entire year. He continuedfunding me ever since. I owe it all to him," he said.

He soon found an opportunity to be a vendor and started his own agency when in Class 10. "I'd learnt the tricks of the trade by then. My vendor had some 50 extra copies to sell and I took them from him. That's how I started," he said. The 50 copies have now grown to 500. "After school, I would take my cycle and identify new buildings and residents. I would approach them for business and ensured the papers reached before 6am. I had my own targets for a month," he explained his marketing tactics. He still delivers the paper along with four of his delivery boys.

"It was hard work. I had to get up at 4am every day, deliver the papers and head to school. I had to skip breakfast to be on time, but would still be late. In college, I opted to sit in the last bench during the first hour so I could catch up on some sleep."

IIM could not have rejected a seat for an aspirant like him. "After my family stabilizes, I want to start a charitable institution, Educate India, by which I can help the underprivileged gain some education. I could achieve this because someone helped me. In turn, I want to help at least 10 people," he said. Shiva is taking an education loan to fund his IIM course.

At IIM-C, he plans to "work extremely hard" while he specializes in finance. It's an attitude that has already made a mark on teachers and faculty members at his new school. "We are really impressed with the boy. He will certainly serve as an example to others and we will look forward to teaching him," said Subir Bhattacharya, chairman of IIM-C's post graduate programmes.
