The next few months had passed with the ETF dealing with homicides, thefts and kidnaps in the city but the relationship dynamics between the members were slowly changing..
Ayesha and Sameer's mutual understanding and slowly budding friendship hadn't missed his eye and he was genuinely happy for his best friend.. Shree and Chottu had started to look up to him more than before and he found himself guiding them often..
With
Sakshi, they were both being civil to each other, for once..
Though the drive
to the crime scenes or their interactions within the office were far from
being friendly, they had come to an unspoken truce..
He still didn't respond to her witty one-liners and pleasant smiles, but now he knew better than to be annoyed at her for it..
One fine
night, however, brought along a storm, they had all been dreading, yet eagerly
waiting for..
Sikandar was back!!
As expected, Arjun had gone wild just with the mention of him breathing in the same air as he was..
But, they had all been in for a shock when Sakshi had
suddenly turned violent as well.. The lilt in her eyes was replaced by raw
anguish and after a lot of coaxing from Rathore, she had finally spilled the
beans..
Sikandar
and his accomplices had blown up the little town she lived in, killing her
mother and reducing her brave father to a breathing corpse for nearly 10 years.
She had expressed a desire to work on his case and had been directed towards
the ETF by a few higher officials, one of them being the present Commissioner
of police and Arjun's mentor.
Arjun now understood
the reason behind her hurt-laden soft smiles when he caught her gazing at him..
She looked up to him.. trusted him.. and needed him to help her achieve her
ultimate goal..
He hadn't said a word back then, but the silent reassuring nod
that he had given her had pretty much said it all..
The team
had yet another personal revenge to seek and had gone in for the kill..
After weeks of relentless struggles and chases, the moment had finally come when Arjun gunned down the monster who had ruined many lives single-handedly, fulfilling his promise to his dead wife.
The team
had later gathered around him, only to watch a motionless Arjun sitting beside
Sikandar's battered corpse with a faraway look in his eyes.
Sakshi had
been the first one to recover from her own emotional upheaval at the sight and
had slumped beside him, letting their palms entwine, both seeking and offering
unconditional support to the other.
She was at peace, finally having avenged
her parent's deaths and was aware of the fact that a lion's share belonged to
the man who now sat with his limp head on her shoulder..
He had fulfilled his unspoken promise to her.. That was the moment, her heart swelled up with pride for the man, she had come to love..
She wrapped
her arms around him, sheltering him and his vulnerability.
Her coaxing words and soothing caresses had finally managed to break the dam he had been holding in for years and the mighty Arjun Rawte had broken down, letting out accumulated pain, frustration and anger..
A lot had changed post Sikandar's death.
Rathore
finally took one step forward towards his best friend, forgiving him and
seeking forgiveness from him.. Arjun and Sakshi still butted heads when it came
to work, however silence did most of the talking otherwise..
Her dormant feelings, which she had neatly wrapped in a far corner of her heart had slowly began resurfacing.. But she never voiced it out nor showed an iota of affection towards him, more than what was necessary.
Arjun, on the other hand had started to seek solace in her company. It had taken him a few months to realise that a part of him wanted to move on.. With her..
But bearing their past record in mind, none had the courage to take the first step fearing rejection and ridicule..
But when mortals had backed out of a challenge, destiny itself decided to play cupid..
The ETF had
headed to Goa for a case.. A success party was thrown by their hosts after they
had booked the criminals..
The rest of the team had let their hair down and
were enjoying their time off, unaware to the storm raging within a couple of
their teammates.
Watching
her smile whole-heartedly after months gave him immense relief, much to his
surprise and he felt drawn towards her like never before.. She was a pretty woman and he'd be lying to himself if he thought he wasn't affected by her..
Sakshi's frame of mind was no different.. Having spent some leisure time with Arjun, she had gotten to know him better as a person.. And the little secrets that Rathore revealed warmed up her heart all the more reigniting the spark that had often threatened to give her away.
Later that night, a quiet walk on the beach, hard liquor in their system, years of loneliness, silently conversing eyes and evident but restrained passion had found an outlet, breaking their fake resolves and uniting them in the most intimate of relationships.
They had
made love all night reaching out to each other several times, unleashing the
tight reigns on their heart and logical minds..
She had awoken in his bed the following morning only to find him packed and ready to leave..
No words
had been exchanged between them ever since.. None ever brought up the incident ever again;
not wanting their ego-packed heads to ruin beautiful moments spent together,
which they would cherish for the rest of their lives.
But despite them pretending to look past the incident that had probably entwined their lives forever, Arjun couldn't bring himself to let go of her when Sakshi decided to resign from the ETF.
He out
rightly opposed her resignation, taunted and threw harsh words at her, chiding
her incapability as the true reason behind it, surprising everyone around..
Except for the lady, who by now had understood that she had fallen in love with an emotionally challenged man, who would never speak his mind, even if he wanted to.. She had eventually given in and accepted a permanent position with the ETF, as their research specialist.
The rest of the team was in for pleasant shocks, when Arjun remained unusually calm, despite Sakshi having stained his shirt with tea.. A fresh bunch of flowers used to be delivered at the office every morning only to find its rightful place on his desk.
Stolen gazes in the rear-view mirror and during case briefings hadn't been missed by the other ETF-ians but they chose to zip their lips, relishing the phase as much as the newly-in-love couple did, silently blessing and praying for them..
PRESENT
And hence
it was only natural, that each one of them shed tears at the void that he had
left behind.. Life was never going to be the same without him..
But for
Sakshi, her life was nothing without him.. For, now he was her life.. Her lost love..
Kyunki tum hi ho, ab tum hi ho..
Zindagi.. ab tum hi ho..
Chain bhi, mera dard bhi..
Meri aashiqui.. ab tum hi ho..
