Independence Day Celebrations galore on Small Screen

The colors of Freedom are splashed in television channels as much as in our lives. To celebrate this occasion with various innovative programmers is the best way to garner TRPs. Of course it means lots of entertainment for the audience and a cut throat competition among the GECs.

From Reality shows to blockbuster movies, entertainment channels have a full bouquet of options for us. iDubba brings to you a list of shows and films which you can enjoy with your family on this occasion.

Star India- This channel has come up with a humane initiative Saath Hain Hum Uttarakhand  to muster mass support and gather funds for the flood-ravaged Uttarakhandthrough a live seven-hour fund-raiser.

The fund raiser that'll be broadcast on key channels of the Star India network including flagship Star PlusLife OKStar PravahStar Utsav and Channel V from 12 noon will see participation and performances from Hindi film industry's stars and television's most celebrated actors. The network promises it to be the biggest Independence Day spectacle in India.

The advertising revenue will be channeled to relief work in the hill-state through two civil society organizations -Himmotthan Society and People's Science Institute.

SONY- It is another channel which is always prepared with interesting shows. It is launching a new show Kehta Hai Dil…Jee Le Zara — at 9.30 pm. The story revolves around Saanchi, a single, independent girl who takes care of her family — two younger siblings and her maternal and paternal grandmothers — all by herself.

In Dharti Ka Veer Putra Maharana Pratap, the young prince will meet his nemesis as Basar Khan plots to kill him. That's not the end of it. Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar will make an appearance on telly show Bade Achhe Laggte Hain at 10.30 pm, to promote his film Once Upon A Time In Mumbai Dobaara. He will shake a leg with 16-year-old Pihu, played by Aanchal Munjal, at her college fest.

Sony will also be showing Ek Tha Tiger and Aashiqui 2 that will be aired at 9.30 and 12.30 pm and 6.30pm respectively. Not only this, the highlight of the day will be the world television premiere of Aurangzeb at 3.30 pm. The movie, which stars Arjun Kapoor in a double role, is about an undercover cop entering a gangster's den as his son.

ZEE TVZee has a special slot from 2.30pm to 5.30pm wherein it will show the best performances from the already aired Qubool Hai Eid Mubarak special episode and Gold awards 2013.

STAR WORLD- It will premiere the second season of 2 Broke Girls  at 8 pm. This is a comedy show which won prestigious Emmy Award.

It will also premiere the Third Season of Breaking Bad and it consist of 13 episodes. After the Wayfarer Flight 515 disaster, two cartel killers known as The Cousins slip into New Mexico after killing an entire clandestine convoy to avenge the death of their cousin, Tuco Salamanca. Their target: "Heisenberg." This show will air at 11 pm.

Animal PlanetTo commemorate the 67th year of India's independence, Animal Planet will celebrate the country's exotic wildlife through its month-long programming line-up Yeh Mera India. Airing from August 15, every night at 9 PM, Yeh Mera India will showcase the fascinating wildlife, rich and varied landscapes and great natural treasure troves of India.

The series travels from the mountains of Himalayas to the wetlands of Odisha, and from Sahyadari ranges in Western Ghats to Bandhavgarh Forests in the heart of India. To mark the occasion, Animal Planet is launching Yeh Mera India animal anthem, as a way to epitomise the magnificent and spectacular wildlife of the Indian subcontinent with its thematic lyrics. The multi-lingual song has been composed by Bollywood's eminent music directors Salim and Sulaiman Merchant and sung by Salim, June Banerjee and Nandini Srikar in Hindi, Bengali and Tamil, respectively. The anthem strives to remind viewers of the splendid creatures we share our planet with.

Vh 1- It has Indian Musical Compass which brings together artists who are divided by states but united by music. The episode which is 12-hour (8am to 8pm) long will feature artists across India representing various regions – Pentagram, Indus Creed, Alobo Naga and the Band, Soulmate, Euphoria, Ska Vengers, A R Rahman, Thermal and a Quarter, Brodha V, Bickram Gosh, Cassini's Division and many more.

MTV - This channel has announced its new take on freedom through Maa Kasam Hindustan with MTV ACT. The initiative will urge the youth to stop being a fence sitter; but to take a stand and take action against issues that concern them. Leading the campaign are actors John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri who along with MTV VJs will take an oath to bring about a change.

9XM-The channels from the 9X network too will play blockbuster tunes, a special youthful video titled Azadi Ka Tashan and has also created a whistling version of Hum Hindustani, one of the most popular patriotic songs from Bollywood. This unique project will be aired on 9XM all through the Independence week.
