Siddhartha Gautama, the Lord Buddha, was born in 623 B.C. in the famous gardens of Lumbini, which soon became a place of pilgrimage. Among the pilgrims was the Indian emperor Ashoka, who erected one of his commemorative pillars there. The site is now being developed as a Buddhist pilgrimage centre, where the archaeological remains associated with the birth of the Lord Buddha form a central feature.
Lumbini is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas in modern Nepal. In the Buddha's time, Lumbini was a beautiful garden full of green and shady sal trees (Shorea robusta ). The garden and its tranquil environs were owned by both the Shakyas and the clans. King Suddhodana, father of Gautama Buddha, was of the Shakya dynasty and belonged to the Kshatriya (warrior caste). Maya Devi, his mother, gave birth to the child on her way to her parent's home in Devadaha while resting in Lumbini under a sal tree in the month of May, 642 BC. The beauty of Lumbini is described in Pali and Sanskrit literature. Maya Devi, it is said, was spellbound to see the natural grandeur of Lumbini. While she was standing, she felt labour pains and catching hold of a drooping branch of a sal tree, she gave birth to a baby, the future Buddha. In 249 BC, when the Indian Emperor Ashoka visited Lumbini, it was a flourishing village. Ashoka constructed four stupas and a stone pillar with a figure of a horse on top. The stone pillar bears an inscription, which in translation runs as follows: 'King Piyadasi (Ashoka), beloved of devas, in the 20th year of the coronation, himself made a royal visit, Buddha Sakyamuni having been born here; a stone railing was built and a stone pillar erected to the Bhagavan having been born here, Lumbini village was taxed reduced and entitled to the eight part (only)'.... So there are many proof which says that Buddha was born in Nepal...

Yes...we never say that he was born in India.

He was in Lumbini.

Why people from Nepal, think that Indians are telling that Buddha is Indian???

But in after life,he was in India. In Bihar, where he got divine Knowledge.

And at that time, before 2500 years...there was not limits like Nepal & Indian Border.

Even Shuddhodhan, king was believing in Hinduism.

Nepalese people are not telling with out any reason... Kabir bedi who plays the role of a sage in the 52-episode serial came up with this gem. "Buddha was born in India. Buddhism is India's biggest export".The website's claim and Bedi remarks were enough to start a storm on social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter where Nepalis blamed both for the irresponsible claim.

Soon online petitions were being signed on sites like ipetitions.com and change.org to put an end to the false assertion.

The efforts had the desired outcome. Zee TV replaced the word India with Nepal on its website promoting the mega serial and Bedi too realized his mistake and apologized.

"Yes, my friends, I mis-spoke. Forgive me. Lord Buddha was certainly born in Lumbini, Nepal. My apologies to all whose feelings were hurt," the actor tweeted on Saturday.

This is not the first time such false claims have been made about Buddha's birthplace. Three years ago noted Indian-American journalist Fareed Zakaria raised a storm by mentioning in his book The Post American World' that Buddha was born in India... So Nepalese have many reasons to raice thier voice...

Yes the show never mentioned Lumbini as apart of India so I seriously don't understand what's the point. We really agree to the fact the Lord Buddha was indeed born in Nepal. It was his birthplace...back then there were no such boundaries as India or Nepal.Lord Buddha was beyond narrow loyalties of boundaries..He taught the world love ,peace and mutual respect!! For me his soul was UNIVERSAL!!It's sad that the actor hurt the sentiments of the people of Nepal but the show never said that !!Lord Buddha was BORN in NEPAL. -this is a FACT -Never denied that!!

And the topic of Boundary has came then , let me tell u that Darjeeling belongs to Nepal. and ur country occupied it..."Ten years back India had occupied Nepali lands at 53 different locations whereas in the past decade the numbers have increased to 71.It will further increase.

Arvi ..If you can post more such stories related to Lord Buddha's life ..I am very keen on following the show and learn from Lord Buddha's life!!..i found this
Maya is usually shown giving birth standing under a tree and reaching overhead to hold onto a branch for support. Buddhist scholar Miranda Shaw, states that Queen Maya's depiction in the nativity scene follows a pattern established in earlier Buddhist depictions of the tree spirits known as yaksini.

The Accariya Abbhutadhamma Sutta, (Majjima Nikaya) records when Prince Siddhartha Gautama Buddha was born in Lumbini beautiful Sal Udyana or Garden, many miracles occurred. Normally, women give birth seated or lying down. But, here Bodhisatva Siddhartha's mother Mahamaya, delivered the baby in a standing posture. It was revealed that Gods received him and followed by human beings. Further, he did not touch the earth. He came forth unsullied, un-smeared by water or human or blood or any kind of impurity, clean and unsullied. The Buddhist literature records that the Great Prince at birth uttered. The lines "Aggohama Milokassa" that "He is supreme, the greatest to be born in the world". Lumbini is situated nestling in the beautiful foothills of the snow clad Himalayas in modern Nepal. According to the Buddhist literature. Queen Mahamaya, was in his way to her parents.

According to the Indo-Aryan culture, it is still the practice, that the expecting mothers usually visit, their mother's place for the delivery. On her way, Mahamaya developed pains delivered Prince Siddhartha Gautama, Buddha in the beautiful garden full of Sal Trees, in an enchanting and pleasing environment. Prince Siddhartha was born at Lumbini in 623 BCE.

The Image of Queen Mahamaya found  in Lumbini. It is installed in a small pagoda.

This image shows the beloved mother of Prince Siddhartha Gautama Buddha, she is seen holding a branch of Sal Branch with her right hand. Further, there are two other celestial figures depicting an act of pouring water and lotuses fallen from the heaven.

When the show never mentioned the place ..why the show is being targeted  now.

Buddha belongs to all and not just one country..agreed he was born in Nepal..and i find these slogans against the show irrelevant now ...

targeting the show for something which they dint even mention..ok fine kabir bedi said..its his ignorance ..but why should a show suffer because of one person's mistake😕
