She was a normal teenage girl who had lost her parents due to a car accident. She had become a sorrow stricken matured girl with a younger brother to take care of instead of the cheery, happy teenager she used to be. Elena Gilbert was living her life as a normal human, albeit, a miserable life, until supernatural (vampire) brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore came along. Elena's life is turned upside down and she falls in love with both brothers, risking her own and her family's life in the process.
October 3rd, 2013. The much awaited TV show returns with its 5th season!
Things seemed rather simple when we first arrived in Mystic Falls. The new school year had just begun and 17-year-old ex-cheerleader Elena Gilbert was returning to Mystic Falls High shortly after her parents had died in a tragic car accident. Elena's Aunt Jenna moved in to take care of her and her younger brother Jeremy. Even though Elena had been through the mill, things remained relatively unchanged within her group of friends: Bonnie was still her bestie, Caroline was still her frenemy, and ex-boyfriend Matt still carried a torch for her. There was, however, one thing different " the new guy at school, Stefan Salvatore. He was mysterious and alluring with an air about him that made him seem like the oldest high school student ever. Naturally, Elena fell for him. And of course he turns out to be a vegan vampire with an older brother (Damon) who is stronger, naughtier, and much less...vegan. Damon's bad boy antics were an instant draw for us, and of course Elena was drawn to him too (even though she wouldn't openly admit it). In the nine months that passed between the first day of class and the Founder's Day fiasco (more on that in a sec), a series of crazy events helped Elena learn that not only do vampires exist, but that the town's big wigs have been hunting them for generations. They'd even imprisoned a bunch of them in a tomb in the woods. Elena also discovered that she was adopted, that her birth mother is now a vampire, the man she thought was her Uncle John was really her father, and that her late dad was the doctor who presided over her birth. (Talk about drama! The Maury Povich Show could do an entire week on her alone.) Oh, and the biggest ah-ha moment of all? Elena found out that she looks exactly like the woman who sired the Salvatore brothers " and that's a big part of why they're so drawn to her. What's worse? That woman (Katherine Pierce) might want to kill her. Awesome.While we're on the subject of killing " remember how we mentioned that Founder's Day fiasco? Well, Elena's Uncle John used that event and the town's citizenry as bait for to catch all the bloodsuckers in town, including many who'd escaped from the tomb. During the fireworks he set off some weird sort of vampire-paralyzing device. Then he and his evil henchmen poisoned the vamps, locked them in an old building and set it on fire. Damon and Anna (Jeremy's love interest) were captured during the raid along with (gasp!) the town's mayor and his son, Tyler. Stefan miraculously managed to escape the device with Elena's help. Then, with Bonnie's assistance (remember, she's a witch!), Stefan was able to save his big bro from the blaze. Sadly, the mayor and Anna were toast, pardon the pun. When Jer found out his boo went bye-bye (the second girlfriend he'd lost in less than a year), he washed down a handful of sleeping pills with a vial of her blood and climbed into bed. He wasn't the only Gilbert about to face the dark side though. Downstairs in the kitchen, a celebratory Uncle John exchanged words with a girl he thought was his niece/daughter Elena. But then suddenly he realized that it wasn't actually Elena. And as he began to utter "Katherine," Elena's vamp doppelganger stabbed (and killed) him. Before leaving, Katherine shared a steamy smooch with Damon, who thought Elena had finally chosen him. Little did he know he was actually kissing Kat...The season picks up immediately after the events of the season one finale. All the series regulars returned.[7] Season two focuses on the return of Elena Gilbert's (Nina Dobrev) doppelgnger, Katherine Pierce, the introduction of werewolves, the sun and moon curse, and the arrival of the original vampires. Tyler Lockwood's (Michael Trevino) uncle, Mason Lockwood (Taylor Kinney), arrives in town searching for the moonstone, a family heirloom. Tyler later learns of his family's werewolf curse. Meanwhile, Caroline Forbes (Candice Accola) is killed by Katherine while having Damon Salvatore's (Ian Somerhalder) blood in her system, turning her into a vampire. The arrival of the original vampires, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) and Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), also bring about complications. Klaus is a vampire-werewolf hybrid, but his werewolf side had been forced into dormancy by witches, as nature would not stand for such an imbalance in power. Therefore Klaus arrives in town with plans to break the curse and unleash his werewolf side by channelling the power of the full moon into the moonstone, sacrificing a vampire and a werewolf, and drinking the blood of the doppelgnger.
Chapter I: The Ghosts Chapter: (Ep. 301 - 307) This chapter deals with the events surrounding Jeremy's new ability to see Ghosts and the mystery surrounding the return of Anna and Vicki to the world of the living. It also deals with Klaus's plan to create more hybrids as well as revealing his back story to his new wingman, Stefan.
The main antagonists of this chapter are Niklaus Mikaelson, Rebekah Mikaelson, and Stefan Salvatore.
Chapter II: The Originals Chapter: (Ep. 308 - 315) This chapter deals with the truth surrounding the creation of the vampires in the form of the Originals. It evolves into a conflict between Klaus and Stefan after the latter steals the coffins of the Originals and uses them in his crusade to destroy Klaus. It also sees the arrival and death of the one responsible for the creation of the vampires: Mikael, Klaus's stepfather. Also, vampires and humans alike are baffled when a killing spree begins against Founder's Council members.
The main antagonists of this chapter are Niklaus Mikaelson, Mikael and Stefan Salvatore.
Chapter III: The Bloodline Chapter: (Ep. 316 - 322) This chapter starts with the development of Esther's plot to destroy her family. Elijah and the rest of the family are not willing to just die and they use Elena to force Damon and Stefan to help them in their power struggle against their mother. Lastly, they learn that once you kill one Original, you also kill their bloodline of vampires, which leads to a search to find out who turned whom and which Originals they can kill without signing their own death sentences. It also continues the storyline of the mysterious killer who seems bent on killing the Council members who protect the secret of the vampires in Mystic Falls.
Chapter I: The Transition Chapter (Ep. 401-402):
This chapter also wraps up/coincides with The Bloodline Chapter from Season 3. This chapter focuses on Elena's transition into a vampire and all the things that she has to look forward to now that she is one. The newly reformed Town Council, whose mission is to clean the town of vampires and anyone else they deem a threat, decides to take action.
The main antagonists of this chapter are Pastor Young and Connor Jordan.
Chapter II: The Hunter Chapter (Ep. 403-409):
This chapter deals with a new threat that has arrived in the town of Mystic Falls; The supernatural hunter known as Connor has arrived to rid the town of all the vampires and hybrids bringing with him two main things, a new origin as one of the members of the thought to be extinct The Five, and also the key to revealing a Cure for vampirism.
The main antagonists of this chapter are Connor Jordan, Niklaus Mikaelson and Atticus Shane .
Chapter III: The Silas Chapter (Ep. 410-415):
This chapter deals with the origins of the first immortal Silas, and the Cure for vampirism. Jeremy tries to complete the Hunter's Mark to reveal the location of Silas and the Cure, and the journey to retrieve them. This results in tragedy and the raising of Silas.
The main antagonists of this chapter are Atticus Shane, Niklaus Mikaelson, Kol Mikaelson, Katherine Pierce, and Galen Vaughn.
Chapter IV: The Humanity Chapter (Ep. 416-423):
This chapter deals with the aftermath of the confrontation on the Island. After Jeremy's death, Elena's pain leads Damon to make a controversial decision which has dramatic consequences for all of Mystic Falls. Meanwhile, Silas, who is now awake, has followed the group back to Mystic Falls and is bent on accomplishing his ultimate goal: to drop the veil with The Other Side.
