The CW's "Supernatural " continued
its strong season Tuesday, drawing
its largest audience in more than
three years opposite coverage of the
State of the Union address on the
major networks.
Nielsen preliminaries for coverage of
President Obama's speech are
unreliable as they do not account for
time-zone differences, but early
indications are that CBS and Fox
were up from last year's address
while NBC and ABC appear to be
down. A cume audience figure from
Nielsen, including cable networks,
will be provided later Wednesday by
Nielsen.
Among entertainment programs,
"Supernatural" shined with a 1.2
rating/3 share in adults 18-49 and
2.8 million viewers overall " the
show's largest overall audience since
October 2010. Teens 12-17 seem to
be driving some of the show's recent
gains, with Tuesday's episode
earning a 1.6 rating/6 share in the
demo for its best delivery in about
five years.
"Supernatural" matched season highs
in adults 18-49 as well as adults
18-34 (1.1/3) and women 18-34
(1.4/4), and its rating in women
18-49 (1.4/3) is its highest since
May 2010.
Kicking off the night, "The
Originals" (1.0/3 in 18-49, 2.2
million viewers overall) was in line,
or up slightly, from last week.
Elsewhere, the Big Four aired series
programming in the 8 p.m. hour, with
NBC's "The Biggest Loser " (1.7/5 in
18-49, 6.6 million viewers overall)
earning the top score in 18-49, and
CBS' repeat of "NCIS" (1.5/4 in
18-49, 11.4 million viewers overall)
the most-watched program overall.
ABC aired a repeat of "Marvel's
Agents of SHIELD" (1.1/3 in 18-49,
4.0 million viewers overall), and Fox
went with an original episode of
"Dads" (1.5/4 in 18-49, 3.9 million
viewers overall) and an encore
"Brooklyn Nine-Nine" (1.2/3 in
18-49, 3.3 million viewers overall).
As for the State of the Union, CBS
drew 7.4 million viewers overall on
its stations from 9 to 10:30 p.m.,
and was followed by NBC (5.6
million), ABC (4.9 million) and Fox
(2.9 million).
