Ginny Weasley

" She was there at the beginning & she existed beyond the end."

undefined

"She is free in her wildness, she is a wanderess, a drop of free water'' - Roman Payne

One of the most underrated characters in the HP books. Is that too harsh a thing to say ? well I don't think so because its the harsh ugly truth. Ginny's character was never fully appreciated. Her love was never given much thought about, her sacrifices were always discarded away in the light of others, her silent presence in Harry's life was never acknowledged.

Next to Hermione, Ginny is my favourite woman character ever written. Lets all go back to that first scene where we met Ginny, a little girl who held onto her mother's hand as she waved her brothers good bye.  That was the first time Ginny met Harry, and for the little girl, it was akin to meeting the prince in her fairytale. The story of Harry Potter - the boy who lived was nothing short of a fairytale for Ginny as she grew up, he was the ultimate survivor, the knight who survived against all odds. The boy who brought down the death of the most evil wizard of all time, can we blame Ginny for being impressed ?

But lets not forget Harry's thoughts, at 11 years of age, he had just been confronted with the most shocking revelation of his life, he had just entered a world where everyone and everything was new to him, he was a lone soul sitting in one of the carriages BUT his attention was drawn to the red haired girl clutching her mother's hands, even as the train sped away from Platform Nine & Three Quarters, Harry watched the little girl running alongside the train, waving her brothers goodbye.

As the books progressed, Ginny found herself falling more for Harry and it would be so not true to say that Harry was unaware of this attraction, he knew but he never cared to analyse his own feelings is what I would say, because even when he was in denial of his feelings, Harry's emotions for Ginny were too deep to say its just a concern for his best friend's sister. In Book 2, when Ginny got taken into the Chamber of Secrets, Harry's mental state is described as the worst feeling he had ever felt. Too deep a feeling if Ginny was just Ron's sister to Harry.

But its Ginny's transformation from a child to a strong level headed girl that was phenomenal, from being shy and awkward in Harry's presence, she went onto become beautiful, smart, confident and down right independent. The girl who had always been protected by 6 brothers all her life, didnt seem to need their protection any longer, her identity wasnt about being their sister or the youngest Weasley. She was THE WEASLEY. She emerged from the male dominated shadows to create her own persona. And she didnt just grow up to become a pretty face, she was smart strong and talented. So strong that even Fred and George were wary of crossing onto her wrong side.

Ginny loved Harry right from the day she set her eyes on him but she didnt pine and weep for his attention, instead she stood in the shadows of his life and watched him grow from a boy to a man. She watched him take his baby steps in the wizarding world, she watched him make friends, watched him on his road to self discovery, she watched him fall in love but she never wished him ill, even when it hurt her deeply, she let him go. When he and Cho brokeup, Ginny never used it as her chance to make a place in his life, she never centred her life around his, she lived her own life which eventually was woven into his by the hands of destiny.

The affections of Ginny and Cho throws up some interesting ideas about human psyche, Cho and Harry were in a relation, Cho was also aware of the fact that Harry had liked her even when she was with Cedric, despite knowing how deep his feelings were for her, she never trusted him, there were always doubts and insecurities, the greatest of them were her doubts on Hermione and Harry.

Lets come to Ginny now, for majority of the books, Ginny was never in the inner circle of Harry's life, it was only Ron & Hermione, then Hagrid , Sirius , Dumbledore. These were the people Harry considered closest to his heart, Ginny was hardly ever aware of Harry's feelings or the various incidents in his life. YET never once did she think there was more than friendship between Harry and Hermione, she always understood the reality of that relationship, she knew Hermione was never a threat BUT she also never undermined Hermione's position in Harry's life, she knew how important Hermione was for Harry, knew how deeply he loved her, cared about her, she knew Harry would just be a shell of his real self if something were to happen to Hermione,BUT she also knew that such powerful feelings didnt mean they were lovers, she knew there were other types of relationships that could command such feelings,Ginny truly respected their friendship.

Even when Harry went away with Ron & Hermione to hunt for the horcruxes, Ginny didnt question his choice to let Hermione accompany him, she never threw a tantrum saying she wanted to go with him, despite being in a relationship, she gave Harry the space he needed. She never tried to be a part of Harry's equation with Ron & Hermione, she knew that they were the closest to Harry and she respected that. She never messed their love for each other with Harry's friendships.

Its often said that a soldier first belongs to his nation and then to his family, Harry was more or less the knight of the wizarding world, and Ginny understood that he belonged to the entire wizarding community and then to her and she accepted that with all the dignity that becomes her as the love of his life.

While Harry was away trying to bring down Voldermort, Ginny didnt sit idle, she along with Neville and the others tried everything possible to protect Hogwarts against the evil that lived in it.

Another aspect that the books didnt give us, theGinny-Hermione friendship, we got glimpses that left us yearning for more,  the love and understanding these 2 girls shared for each other, they were true blue sisters and BFFs. Hermione played a vital role in helping Ginny rise from the shadows of her brothers, Hermione was her strength as Ginny discovered her identity,Hermione knew of Ginny's deep passion for Harry but she never tried to make Harry understand that, instead she let the passion flourish uninhibited, she made sure that Ginny had a life of her own rather than see it wasted in the agony of lost love. Nutshell is that Hermione & Ginny would have been sisters to each other even if they had not married each other's brothers.

The moment between Ginny and Harry at Dumbledore's funeral had a silent beauty of its own and we could see it reflected in Harry's thoughts, no words were spoken, Ginny didnt need to hear his decision, she never wanted any justification to his decisions, she just understood what Harry expected himself to do and let him do it. AND she didnt walk away, leaving him to fight that battle on his own, she didnt try to stop him with the guilt card, instead she stood by his side and gave him his right to fight his battles, letting him know that she would be waiting for his return.

Ginny's strength and faith in Harry's mission was the silent support he needed, Harry knew he had her to fall back on, knew there was one soul in the world ( apart from Ron & Hermione ) who would never doubt his intentions or actions.

Being Harry Potter's girlfriend was something worth flaunting down other's faces but never once did Ginny do that, she gave their relationship the natural feel it deserved, she made Harry believe that even he was entitled to enjoy a normal lifestyle, made him believe that even he could be happy like any other, made him believe that even he can dream about having ahome to which he could return after a normal day in his life and he would have a family waiting when he returns.

To summarise it all would be to say that Ginny was a woman in her own class, there would never be another Ginny, there is only one of her kind, a woman who scripted her own story by staying on the periphery of the main story, no one penned down her story, no one was curious to know what happened next in her life, yet as we drew closer to the END, everyone knew her story, she wrote her story just by living it, she left her handprint in the lives of all those who mattered, she stepped out of the shadows and made a place for herself in Harry's spectrum, not as just another admirer but as a woman who understood his every heartbeat, even when he hadn't acknowledged her place in his life.

The little girl he watched run along the carriages of the Hogwarts Express went onto become the woman who stood by his side as he waved their children off to school, the woman who nurtured his friendships, the woman who gave the orphan Harry Potter a family, the woman who made his home, the woman who showered him in unconditional love.

Ginny Weasley to Ginny Potter isnt just a tale of how a woman fell in love but its about a woman stood out in a society dominated by Male Heroes and Bloody Battles, amongst all the chaos that happened, Ginny (& Hermione ) were the symbols of feminine beauty and resilience, she was the delicate rose that emerged from the dawns of darkness like a flame of fire.

Sirius Black - A Life Lost To Destiny's Bloodthirst.

undefined

"I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to stay right here and cause all kinds of trouble." Suzanne Collins, Catching Fire

Its never easy to think of Sirius and not shed a tear, world literature has seen many tragedies, in fact too many but never one like his.

Born to parents who never loved him .. who never understood that their son had a heart more pure than their blood would ever be.

Found love and care amongst his best friends at school ...dreamnt of a future in their company .. only to have it all shattered once again, yet again because of his misplaced trust on one of his friends.

Still grieving from the loss of his best friends, consumed in rage he hunted down the traitor, only to be faced with an ugly future, a future where he would spend more than a decade in Azkaban, being accused of 2 murders he would never even dream of, the murders of James & Lily.

More than a decade spend and then he finally makes it out and clears his name to the people that truly mattered, and finally found his godson , or better to say his son Harry with whom he wished to spend the rest of his life.

But life was never kind to Sirius Black, he was forced to going to hiding once again but he had hope, that one day all this would be over and then he could have his time with Harry.

Shunted out in a house that he never wanted to go back to,Sirius spend his last year alive, hiding away, broken ... his only source of love and happiness was Harry.

But it was death itself that hammered the final nail in theSirius's life story.

As Harry watched helpless, Sirius Black drifted away into the veil, his smile still intact on his face, his eyes on Harry's anguished face as he disappeared from sight once and for all.

He vanished silently just like how his life had always been dark and soundless, Sirius was as innocent as any man could be, he was brave, talented, loved by all who knew his heart, yet his life could never live out the way it should have, Sirius happens to be one of the most important characters in Harry's life, his father figure and yet Sirius was barely alive in Harry's life, he tried hard to be there for Harry but fate never allowed it and then Death came without warning, he hadn't even completed his last smile as his heart stopped beating.

Harry barely knew Sirius .. when he knew him .. he hated him.. later the hate was found to misplaced, the confusions and lies got wiped away .. Harry loved Sirius like he loves James, and just when they thought they had a reason to hope, Harry lost him .. never to see him again.

Sirius is like the perfect example of how a perfect life could be so cruelly marred by tragedies one after the other and yet despite all this,Sirius - the brave marauder fought .. he fought against all the odds in life.

He was born to a family of pure bloods obsessed with purity of their blood and consumed by their hatred for anyone who didnt fall into the same group. His parents couldn't stand the fact that their son cared so little about his blood status, the first shock was when he got sorted into Gryffindor and not Slytherin , the first indication that their son was a different person. If his parents hated Sirius then he hated them a million fold more than that,he could never accept the cruelty that ran in their veins and he was brave enough to stand by his character and his beliefs, now not everyone can do that, its not easy to stand alone when you have the rest of the world closing in on you and yet he stood firm.

His first best friend was James Potter who also happened to be like his own brother for him or maybe much more than his brother Regulus would ever mean to him. Padfoot and Prongs s friendship was the kind where they would fight battles side by side and die with a smile to protect the other.

They were the marauders, the ultimate rule breakers who always knew when not to cross the line, Prongs Padfoot Moony ... they were the marauders who got cheated of a future together by their misplaced trust in the weak hearted Wormtail who went onto prove that he was nothing but a slimy worm.

When Harry was born, James & Lily picked him as Godfather, they trusted Sirius to be the one to take care of their son if anything were to happen to them and Sirius intended to shield Harry from every possible harm but Sirius couldn't make it to Harry, Wormtail had Sirius framed for the betrayal and murder of the Potters, Sirius was locked up but even after a decade, when he realised that Wormtail was in Hogwarts and too close to Harry, Sirius fought his own despair, the very realisation of the danger Harry was in was enough to have his blood rushing through his veins and have the air return to his lungs, his instinct to protect Harry kicked in and Sirius escaped prison risking his life.

Sirius was a man who never once cared about what was going to happen to him, all he cared about was keeping his loved ones happy, no matter how big the sacrifice was.

Sirius had himself titled as the most dangerous man to have escaped Azkaban but he couldn't care less, all that mattered was Harry, his son.

Sirius was in hiding, yet the father in him could never stay away as his son played Quidditch, he watched harry from far and when Harry had his broom broken, Sirius send him the latest & fastest broom in the world, like an ideal father would do.

Proven innocent to Harry & his friends, Dumbledore and Lupin, it seemed as though Sirius could finally rest but then he was forced to go into hiding, and so great was his love for Harry, that Sirius even spend his days eating rats , just so that he could be within reach of Harry's .

Sirius was never happy being shut away in his house, a locked house was no place for a warrior like him and the frustration slowly chipped away from his soul, yet he braved it all for the larger cause, even while doing all this, the one reason , the only reason he lived through all of it was Harry, Sirius always wished to have a life with Harry, because being with Harry not only felt like he had a son of his own but it also made him feel James was close.

And then came the day that would be the day he last lived on earth and Sirius died fighting, befitting a hero, he fought with Harry, side by side, like friends ... like brothers ... like warriors ... like heroes.

But the most heartbreaking truth that could never contain was that Sirius couldn't even say good bye to Harry.

Harry's agony at losing Sirius, it felt like losing he only parent he had ever known. His tears, each one of us echoed his pain as his world fell apart. Sirius could commit himself to endless sacrifices to give Harry the love he craved, he who never like to hide away in the face of danger lived his last years in hiding, constantly on the run, just so that Harry would never be an orphan ever again. He lived his last years allowing the society to call him a mass murderer just so that he could give Harry the love that was denied to him for so long.

Sirius was Harry's link to his father, to his mother, he and Lupin were the ones who gave Harry the memories that told him what his parents had been like, Harry got to know his parents through the eyes of Sirius Black and he couldn't have known them better than that.

Sirius was never in the battlefield for most of the time yet he was one of the war's worst affected casualities, a man who lost everything. His family .. His son .. His identity ... His Talent wasted and eventually death claimed him.

But he left his legacy behind, true that there was no heir for the family of the Blacks to carry their family name forward, but Sirius Black left his legacy alive in Harry Potter.

Harry didnt just bear the legacy of the Potter family but he was also Sirius Black's soon, fully intent on letting the world know that his godfather was not the man they thought him to be.

And Harry was every bit the perfect Godfather to Teddy Remus Lupin just as Sirius had been to Harry.

Sirius is so loved by the readers that he ranks high in the list of characters that we wish had never been dead, that we wished for to be brought back alive, Sirius ( & Fred ) are two characters whose death if it was in our power, would never have happened.

So yeah ... this is it ... this is Sirius as how I see him. A child born to a family that never loved him, a family that tried to integrate him into the bubble of happiness that made no sense to him other than that it was dark and vile and fake. A young boy who picked his own family, who never gave into force or the family norms but always followed his heart's instinct, he never realized his true worth until he saw it reflected in the eyes of the people who truly loved him. He grew up into a man any parent would have been proud of and yet his parents never realized their mistakes, he was lost to them and they would never know what a gem they had lost, Sirius Black born to one of the  worst families to exist rose out from the darkness that surrounded him and made an identity for himself, an identity that stamped that the reality that a family name isnt the only definition a person could have for his character, he proved that a person could become whatever he hoped to become as long as they had the heart and will power to follow their dreams, he fought every minute of his life to prove that he was different ... he was special ... that he was pure.

He was deeply conflicted by the injustices of the world he lived in and he fought against each one of them, he was always there to protect the people from the oppressive forces surrounding them, he felt the pain of all those who suffered as though it were his own.

Life was never kind to him, he was framed with the most blasphemous of accusations and yet he fought them all, even after decades of struggle, he still never gave up hope in the goodness of humanity, he fought for the triumph of good over evil, of innocence over betrayal, of truth overlies, he fought for the victory of humanity over the shadow of brutal evil that threatened to destroy the world they lived in once and for all.

He gained nothing for himself in the battle ... He lost everything and yet even though dead, he was loved by the ones who knew him while he was alive, they knew that Sirius Black was one the war's unsung heroes, also one of the bravest of men to ever walk the earth.

And to Harry ... Padfoot lived in his soul.

To the rest of his friends ... Sirius was the survivor who went down with a smile.

To us ... he is the guardian .. the  black dog ... the one and only dog that we wish we could see standing guard over the little ones - James Albus Lily Rose& Hugo - the heirs who will carry on the legacy of the Marauders.

Beautiful bit of writing.
Ginny Weasley/Potter happens to be one of the most under appreciated female characters of literature.
in my personal choice, she is almost in the same ranking as Hermione.

Yes, Ginny barely appears in the first book, but she makes an impression- that of a sweet, innocent kid with stars in her eyes. When we finally meet her in Chamber of Secrets, she is still the same naive kid, but her starry-eyed persona is taken away by Tom Riddle. She loses a part of her innocence, no doubt, and when Harry rescues her, she does not cling to him and demand he help her, but voices concern for what her family might think of her.
Even so, Harry takes pains to tell the story in Dumbledore's office so that she is not blamed.

Ginny has one moment in the third book, where she laughs along with Harry, and precious few is book four. We see that while she has learnt to enjoy the ridiculous, she is also a caring sister, as is evidenced when she is trying to console Ron.
And even so, I greatly appreciated her resolve to still go with Neville- in spite of having the chance to go with Harry, the Boy Who Lived, the Hogwarts Champion, and her girlhood crush.

Ginny has a lot to do in OoTP. She shows she can fight as well as anyone(anyone taking on Molly Weasley has guts, LOL) and Fred/George are afraid of her hexing abilities. She becomes Harry's friend, and towards the end, his confidante, when he tells her something he has not been able to tell Ron or Hermione.

In the end, it was simply inevitable that they would end up together.
You did a great job in portraying their relationship, and here's my toast to Ginny Weasley.
Anything's possible if you've got enough nerve!

Sirius Black.
We first heard about him in book one, when Hagrid mentions him. It's a fleeting mention, so that we have no idea that this man was supposed to be Harry's guardian if not for a cruel twist of fate, and this was the man who had begged Hagrid to leave Harry with him.
What a different life Harry would have had with Sirius!

But that was never to happen.
Sirius was betrayed, again and again, by the cruel fate he had.

First, born to a family whose ideals were so different from his that he simply left them at age fifteen. I get the impression that Harry and Sirius's childhood and teenage years might not have been too different, really.

Sirius is reckless and hot tempered often, but his faults are countered by his heart. He loves, and loves well.

Sirius cared enough for Remus Lupin to learn how to be an animagus, along with James, his brother in all but blood, in his third year, no mean feat. How it must have felt, to have lost them both, to be alone in a place where not a single happy memory is allowed to exist?

And this is why I hate Pettigrew so much!

I hated how Sirius was forced to live in his childhood hell in book five. All alone, most of the time, if not for Kreacher. And the house elf betrayed him, too- which ultimately resulted in his untimely and wholly undeserved death.

None of the deaths in HP affected me so much as Sirius did. I remember sitting with the book, turning pages which were getting blotched by tears.
Like Harry, even I wished that he could come back. Somehow turn back time and return, if only to give a farewell, but no. Sirius' death was the cruelest of all, even though he died in battle, as he should have chosen to.

And as much as I love and admire Rowling, I cannot ever forgive her for Sirius. :'(
Beautiful writeup once again.
