Death upheld for four in Delhi gangrape case

Delhi High Court upholds the September 13, 2013 trial court verdict awarding death penalty to Mukesh, Akshay Thakur, Pawan Gupta and Vinay Sharma

The Delhi High Court on Thursday upheld the death sentences awarded to four convicts in the December 16, 2012 gangrape case.

A division bench of Justice Reva Khetrapal and Justice Pratibha Rani also dismissed the appeals of four convicts challenging the trial court verdict awarding them the death penalty.

The trial court had on September 13, 2013 awarded death sentences to Mukesh (26), Akshay Thakur (28), Pawan Gupta (19) and Vinay Sharma (20).

A 23-year-old physiotherapy intern was gangraped and brutally assaulted by six men, including a juvenile, in a moving bus.

The convicts then threw her and her male companion out of the vehicle, stripped of clothing, to die by the roadside on the cold December night.

The woman died of grave intestinal injuries on December 29, 2012 at Singapore's Mount Elizabeth Hospital, where she was airlifted for specialised treatment.

One of the six accused was found dead in a cell in Delhi's Tihar Jail. A juvenile involved in the crime was on August 31, 2013 sent by the Juvenile Justice Board to a reform home for three years, the maximum term under the juvenile law.

Justice will be done when they are hanged.

I wish we in Pakistan have the courage to hang terrorists. Recently there was one convicted terrorist about to be hanged and in came a threat to PM Nawaz Sharif and his family and the next day they delayed it.

This is one reason why we are in mess. Punishment is very important or else these things will keep happening

The Supreme Court on Saturday stayed the death penalty till March 31 of two of the four convicts " Mukesh and Pawan " in the Delhi gang-rape case.

Mukesh and Pawan, two of the four men convicted in the case, had approached the Supreme Court after the Delhi high court on Thursday upheld the death sentence for all four men convicted by a trial court.

Will these also manage to escape death sentence like the juvenile?
After the pardon granted to former PM late Rajiv Gandhi's  killers we never know what turn this case may take.

Put them in jail thats best punishment. Hanging them and its over for them but in jail the lives of rapist is like hell on earth. The best way to abate rapes is to provide quality education to every child. In most cases its frustration which is cause of rapes

Level of frustration is increasing in the society. Either people find ways to solve their frustration in a positive manner or find more peaceful means to vent it out may be by ending their miserable livesOuch.
