Pillar of strength FF Chapter 1
An 8-year old girl sitting by the lake in Punchgani with
tears welling up in her eyes starts arguing with the silent water.
Girl: what do you think, I'm scared of you? So what if my
aii did not save me. I will prove it to you and aii. I will learn to swim, face
my fears alone. I don't need anyone. I, Kalpana Yadav vow to prove the world my
worth and fulfill my aii's dream.
Unknown to her is an elderly woman watching her rant and approaches
Kalpana.
Woman: Hi Kalpana
Kalpana: (shocked) how do you know my name? Are you an angel
that God send for me?
Woman: (smirking) My name is Juhi. I don't know if I'm an
angel but I would love to be yours. I lost everyone around me and feel the pain
in your eyes as I feel the same at times...It is the pain of loneliness. Maybe we
could be each other's angel. I teach at boarding school and live in woman's
shelter next to it.
K: Really? I start school tomorrow. What subject you teach?
I love Maths. Numbers are so cool, you can add, subtract, multiply, divide and
use same formulas to life.
J: haha I teach English but I must say you are the wisest
girl I have met. Your parents must be proud.
K: gets teary and clings on the woman and cries. No, my aii
hates me and send me here so she can only spend time with Paakhi. Kalpi tells
Juhi, her whole story, how she stood second for her mom, how she was never good
enough and got punished for something she never did.
Juhi's heart went out for the girl and said aaj sey I'm your
second aii but for me you will be my only priority. You can call me Ma. And don't
worry, I will knock some sense in your aii when she comes to visit.
Kalpi laughs and says I bet you can't hurt a fly. Now if it
was Neetu memsaab or Manda Tai, I would be scared. If I call you Ma, you have to call me Kalpi. (Pinky Promise)
Woman gets happy seeing Kalpi smile, (Pinky Promise) little did she know she
never got a chance to knock some sense into Kalpana's aii since no one visited
her for years.
Kalpana would get sad and dishearten the first day of
vacation, or the first minute of receiving an award (which were at many occasions) but would thank God in the
second moment / second for giving Ma to her, her saving grace.
They both were each other's pillar and survived 10 years
together. During this time, she often wondered how dark was her Ma's past, how
she would ignore questions on it or fake sickness. She vowed her second vow, to
bring her past in peace, present with happiness and future with relaxation.
Spoiler for Chapter 2:
A 13- year old boy reflecting back to a month ago while struggling to
adjust in USA, missing the warmth of family he observed a month ago in a family
of 4 who shared a room. How I wish I had a normal family, what use is money if
everyone around desires your presence for that money? I, Raghav Singhania vow
to take revenge on the Kapoors.
