An Unblinking Death - Recap

Kiernan is praying in the church when he's suddenly interrupted by Bastiana, who tries to get him to drink from a cup. But it's all just a hallucination. In reality, Cami and Josh are trying to get him to drink some water. There's a moment when he recognizes her before slipping back into hysteria. This gives Cami hope that there may be a way to fix him: electroshock therapy.

Klaus is looking for his mother's Grimoire, but can't seem to find it. Elijah admits that he hid it, fearing his brother was going to use it for his plan involving the werewolves. Klaus insists that he's doing this to protect Hayley and make her people strong enough to protect her. But Elijah fears they'll have an uprising on their hands.

Just then, Klaus receives a call from Marcel, who warns him of Cami's ill-advised plan and suggests he try stopping her. But Cami's proves to be too stubborn to listen and tries it anyway, but to no avail. Klaus tells her it's time to let Kiernan go.

Elijah goes to visit Hayley, Jackson, and Oliver in the bayou to relay his concerns about their alliance with Klaus. He assures them it will only bring more trouble. Just then, a man shows up on a motorcycle, which explodes, injuring several pack members. Oliver immediately wants to retaliate on the vampires that did this, so Hayley goes searching for Marcel, thinking he's the one behind it.

Shortly after she leaves, several other planted bombs go off in the area, killing several others and seriously injuring Eve. And since Eve never killed anyone, her werewolf gene was never activated, which means she's unable to heal herself.

Upon learning of Marcel's location, Hayley decides to go after him alone. He denies any involvement in the attacks and informs her that her family had many enemies back in the day. Marcel confesses that he knew Hayley's family and therefore knows her true identity. Hayley asks him if he's responsible for her parents' deaths. He says no and explains how he found her in her crib and took her to Father Kiernan.

Marcel hands her a bag full of money, suggesting she get out of town before things get too bad. But she declines the offer. Before she goes, he informs her that the bomber on the motorcycle was a gambler, who owed money to the humans who run the casinos. Perhaps they were the ones behind what happened.

Kiernan goes into cardiac arrest, so Klaus reaches into his chest and starts massaging his heart, but it won't help for long. Cami begs him to feed her uncle some of his blood. He does and shortly afterward, Kiernan's heart stops.

As soon as Kiernan awakes, he notices that the hex is gone. Klaus and Cami explain the situation to him. However, if he chooses not to feed on blood, then he'll die. If that's the case, it still gives him a chance to say goodbye to Cami in peace. Klaus leaves to give the two of them some privacy.

Oliver goes to visit a severely wounded Eve and confesses that he was partially responsible for what happened, though it wasn't supposed to go that far. He'd just wanted to get the pack mad enough to start an uprising. Eve asks who he was working with, but he doesn't say. She warns him he's going to be in a lot of trouble once everyone finds out. But he promises her they're not going to find out and proceeds to smother her with a pillow to keep her from talking.

Meanwhile, Hayley returns to the bayou and hears about the other attack. Elijah takes her to see Eve. On the way, she notices Oliver talking to a bunch of members from the pack. Elijah explains that he's using the tragedy to make a move for power, knowing the people will want justice for what's happened.

Kiernan can't find a key that he normally wears around his neck at all times. He tells Cami that it's an important part of her family legacy and that she has to find it. She promises that she will. They then say a heartfelt goodbye.

Klaus goes to see Genevieve, thinking she had something to do with the attacks. She's offended that he thinks she would do that. He also informs her that Kiernan is finally rid of the hex. But just then, Kiernan notices the black "x" has returned to his hand.

Kiernan goes to slit his own throat, but the hallucination of Bastiana stops him, explaining that he has one final offering still to complete: killing the person he holds most dear. And now that he's died, the boundary spell that held him to the attic is no longer in affect.

He tracks down Cami, who is still in the church, but before he can kill her, Klaus shows up and stakes him in the heart. He takes Cami home and calls Marcel to come comfort her, allowing his exile to be lifted for the next 24 hours.

Later on, Marcel meets with Diego and Josh, who hands over the key Kiernan was looking for. Apparently, he'd swiped it from his neck earlier that day upon Marcel's request. Marcel insists Cami isn't yet ready to deal with the secrets that key holds. He declares that the city is at a breaking point and they need to be ready.
Back at the French Quarter, Elijah returns the Grimoire to Klaus and assures his brother that he is now whole-heartedly on his side
