Encounter-Vinod More Vs Mahesh Murthy-A brief write up and My Views

Encounter Part - 2  

10^th May

Mahesh Murthy had made arrangements to wipe off Vinod's family...and smiled with a victorious smirk followed by his standard Govinda...tune...

At his residence the goons wonder where the Inspector had disappeared but he was very much there expecting them...He shoots them for having had the audacity to have come to a police inspector's residence??!!

He questions them if there were orders to wipe out his family ---After a brief silence at gun point one guy had to agree. He tells them that he was aware of this stale and disgusting idea.

As always he was told that they were doing their duty and what a reply by More ---

Was it your duty to kill my wife?

If that be the case, my duty is to arrest you goons and put you behind bars.

WOW!!!!

A sweet phone call to his wife to check if she was fine and the care and love shown in a simple scene --- of how they missed each other! Very beautiful...indeed!

At the court, Anand Murthy goes to meet his brother Mahesh for trial where Inspector Vinod tells him that he had tried to attack his wife and so from that day, his personal animosity begins with him.

He adds that it wasn't only about his wife but also because he troubled innocent lives! He points to the hand which was chained and says that he would cut off that hand...

Mahesh reminds the Inspector that the Law needs proof and he did not have any...so he cannot do anything to him.

At the Court

The judge says that he (Vinod More) and his men cannot be the witness or proof of the attack...

Vinod tells the judge that there were two more witnesses but they could not come to court as they were in the Morgue! Just like they are silent the whole city is silent. Because of the fear of this person ---pointing to Mahesh! He also talks of a live witness in his wife.

Loved the dialogue and its delivery!

The judge was told that the Law asks the police to protect it but does not give them the freedom to do so.

The judge warns him that it was contempt of court and he could be either suspended or even arrested for it!

Then pat came the reply ---- You may do whatever you wish but LAW can NOT be higher than the COMMON MAN!

Excellent!

He tells very firmly not to release this Don as it will lead to disaster.

The judge tells him that he needs to provide a proof but he is only been given a lecture...

In short it was Mahesh's victory to walk to freedom! Case dismissed!

Oh the looks that both shared after this was brilliant!

Mahesh walks to him and says the more he tries to put him behind bars he will be out ---the Law can do nothing to him!

Vinod says that though he was out --- he wasn't free because he was still caged in the fear of him!!!

Again a classy dialogue better felt in Hindi!

Keep watching how I destroy you ---- was what Vinod said to which the laughter on Mahesh's face was a killer! He replies that Mahesh was never scared of anyone and lived like a tiger! He taunts him that despite hearing so much from the judge still Vinod hasn't learnt his lesson on Law!

Vinod had to tell him that his personal grievances with Law are his own and Mahesh should not interfere there...

Now again the dialogues and the script stole the show for me...

He told him that the public, himself and the Law would sort it out and he was the OUTSIDER...the enemy of all! One day he had to be caught by either of them ---till then he asks him to enjoy!

Mahesh asks him if he had any more to say and them gave him a look and walked away!

What an effortless acting by this actor Mahesh Shetty - I am forced to say this many times because when one is on the side of the good, one does win hearts but to do a negative role and convince audiences of the character and its strength is quite an achievement!!!!

Brilliant!

The wedding of Anand Murthy was to be attended by Babu Rhode and this information was given by a beggar who was an informer to Inspector Vinod.

He warns everyone to be alert as there would be a shootout there at the wedding venue. He guessed well that Babu Rhode would attend the wedding and extend a hand of friendship to Mahesh but later would get the attack done by his men. He was right. They reach on time and shoot the guys hired for the job.

Anand gets hurt which angers Mahesh as he knew it was Babu Rhode's job, but Vinod warns him to stop the bloodshed and take care of his bleeding brother.

At a club where Mahesh's man tries an attack Inspector catches him red handed and so he had the proof and witness.

Another instance when Mahesh confronts Babu, Vinod arrives on time! But he warms Rhode too that he wasn't just after Murthy's gang but on anyone who spread violence in that area!

For the first time Mahesh looked all ruffled unable to think of a way to escape from the clutches of More! He thinks of using his old accomplice Sulaiman who had now left him. He plots to kidnap his daughter to force him to join him and do his work of finding Babu Rhode.

Sulaiman decided to go and meet the honest police officer More and seeks his help to rescue his daughter.

Loved the look on Kinshuk's --- Inspector Vinod's--- face as he was listening to Sulaiman...to read him and the genuineness of his case.

The police set out to look for the girl and finds her on time as she was at the hospital with her Mom a place where no one would have searched for!

The news of the police raid reaches Anna ---aka Mahesh causing him to worry again! He orders that the girl and her mother be killed when Vinod reaches to save them.

Anand suggests to Mahesh to leave the country and that he would take charge here as he had expected this to happen. He gives him a fake passport to help him flee...and promises to take care of things in Mumbai! 

Anand assures him that he would follow his principles of

No compassion and no friendships and where betrayal equals death! 

Mahesh tells his men to work for his brother and the one man had a doubt was shot instantly.

When Inspector Vinod goes to Mahesh's house searching for him, Anand says that he could not do that without a search warrant! Vinod tells him that he would anyways find Anna soon!

Mahesh leaves in a new look out of the country but is spotted by an informer of Vinod but he is not given the authority to stop the flight in which Mahesh flees!

The chase continues...of Anna by Inspector Vinod More!

Another thrilling episode with simply superb performances by ALL...

The music was mind blowing and the expression of every character was just right and perfect!

Encounter Part 3

11^th May

Six months later

Anand Murthy's wife was expecting her first child and the function was on. There was a shootout causing the death of a few including her Dad. The gangwar between Rhode and Murthy had resulted in many deaths. However, most of the illegal business was getting caught and the goons were finding it difficult to look out for novel ways of keeping their business going.

 

Inspector More's wife too was expecting and the doctor had advised no stress and no tension to her.

A beautiful simple scene between the couple! The wife asks More not to worry about her or the child and it was so heartwarming to see such a confident and caring life partner.

These words reassure Inspector More to be focused in his mission.

 

He gets the news of the deaths and gets upset at the inability of the police to do much to stop all the bloodshed. Inspector feels that these gangsters have no fear of anything ---which makes it more and more difficult to deal with them.

Murthy gang decides to initiate a war against the Rhode. Mahesh remains in touch with Anand and says that he was well into smuggling more of stuff from different part of the world. But he concludes his talk by asking Anand to be careful and cautious of Vinod More!

This was reason enough to believe that these gangs knew that this Inspector could STOP THEM!

 

I think this is a great achievement when a seed of fear or doubt is sown in the minds of these goons...a credulous job by Inspector More for his fearlessness!

 

Anand gives orders to finish the entire Babu Rhode gang.

Inspector More gets to know from his informer about the expected attack on Rhode by the Murthy gang.

At the police station the Inspector feels that a gang war at a desert or forest would mean nothing to him but since its going to be in a city, even the loss of a single life means they would be responsible! As they could do nothing about stopping it!

Loved the sincerity in his speech here --- the police has to provide protection to the common man!

 

He tries to find out about the supplier who supplies the weapons to these two gangs. Sulaiman comes to the rescue here and he says he knows who the supplier was! He had come to the police station to give some cake as it was his daughter's birthday!

He tells the Inspector that it was lady and not a guy who was involved in all this...MLA...to top it! Her garage always had the weapons when Sulaiman was a shooter for 10 years! He warns them that she was a dangerous and powerful lady! Inspector orders for a warrant against the MLA based on Sulaiman's information as it was based on his honesty and integrity.

At the MLA's residence he was stopped by the watchman and asks if he was there for a search and was he joking?

One slap by the Inspector was just enough to shut up the man!

 

This scene to me really stood out as it showed that now Inspector meant business ---and that too quickly! HE marches into the house warning anyone who stopped him to ask for a warrant!

A raging More was again done to perfection by Kinshuk!

 

Meanwhile there was a phone call which bound him from any further action from his boss! Oh the helplessness of Inspector was felt  --- when he was ordered to leave the bungalow immediately!

As he was leaving with disgust the MLA comes out to taunt him and asks him if he wanted something cold!

He replies that she would need it as the prison does not treat one with so much love - a direct warning to her that soon she would be caught!

She give him some unsolicited advice that one should always be loyal to the Law makers and not Law itself -that way one can keep one's uniform intact!

 

The amazing reply here by the Inspector was --- This uniform has a lot of strength. If you try to mess with it you will lose your seat!

 

Dialogues in this whole story was crisp, short, and very striking!

To the point --- yet very emphatic and strong! ---Loved it👏⭐️!

 

Inspector feels bad that he wasn't given that golden chance of revealing the truth of the corrupt MLA and save the lives of innocent people. His boss says that they had to deal with it carefully and he too did not want the killings of innocent lives.

Murthy gang is happy with the supply of weapons as they have a good look at it. So is the Baba Rhode gang.

There were a lot of killings going on and the inspector got the news of more and more shootings.

It was time for Vinod now to act ---- without any warrant. He just wanted to attack the gangs right away!

Babu Rhode escapes...

 

More goes to Anand's place and sees the MLA there. The lawyer there tells him that without a written search warrant he cannot stay there even for a minute! They show him the door to leave.

More tells that next time he would come with the government invitation to take them --- a written invitation!

They plan to stop the finances to the Murthy gang --- and execute it to perfection.

Inspector tells him (Batliwala) that he had to help him file a FIR against Anand Murthy after which family will be given police protection.

Mr Batliwala asks them if the police had no other option to which he was told that police had many options but he had none!

This worked and Batliwala calls up Murthy and says that he wasn't scared of him and would not fund him anymore! That was it! The call was recorded and police got the much needed proof.

At the end of the call --- the Inspector compliments Batliwala ---- that if he was acting then it was a great performance indeed by him! He asks him to relax and enjoy as he was free now!

Mahesh was now in America and speaks to Anand. They wonder where Batliwala and his family disappeared and which party must be helping him not realizing it was the police!

Mahesh wants to know if he should come but Anand says it wasn't needed.

Anand's wife complains that despite having everything she does not have a life ---- a husband, the child does not have a father!

 

Frustrations of being a spouse of an underworld don----well shown!

 

The police comes there and Vinod tells Mahesh that he would arrest Anand. If he could he asks him to save his brother.

 

Anand had to pay a huge price for being Mahesh's brother!

At the police station Anand was attacked/shot by Rhode's man!

 

Mahesh calls up and gets to know that Anand was shot. He decides to return soon.

Anand's wife was told the good news that her husband had survived but the bad news was that he may never recover fully --- he may remain paralyzed for life!

Mahesh comes to the hospital disguised as a man form press to see his brother. The police stops him and asks why he wanted to meet a gangster. He sees his brother and decided that he should leave the country with his family in duplicate passports while he dealt with stuff here!

Vinod and he nearly had a brush at the hospital.

Mahesh disguised as a police goes to collect some money but an informer recognizes him and informs the police that he had seen Mahesh there.

More gets the news of becoming a father to a son at the hospital but he had to leave immediately to catch Mahesh as he got the news. 

Duty was far more important here and more so when it involved the big Don Mahesh!

At a cinema theater...Mahesh arrives as a cop!

More reaches there too and they had to identify who Mahesh was so the Inspector felt there was only one way ---that was to call his name and if he responded then it was him!

 

It worked and Murthy gets caught in the wed he had spun!

The irony was he was in uniform while the entire police force was not! He tries to escape but is shot!

 

A brilliant story indeed with so much of thrill and suspense to it!

Lots of action ---- believable locales ---- great dialogues ----- superb expressions and a towering performance by all the characters ---good and bad!

But the end is well when Good destroys Evil!
