"Just above our terror, the stars painted this story
in perfect silver calligraphy. And our souls, too often
abused by ignorance, covered our eyes with mercy."-
Aberjhani

The intricacies of Terrorism was majorly defined as the use of violence to frighten and intimidate the general mankind for achieving political goals. Today, though, the role play has risen up some notches. A terrorist attack somewhere and the political bigwigs get to show how sympathetic, helpful and saintlike they can be, with the added glory of their political ambitions coming true. The puffing of chest has been toned down to a remorseful face. Whereas the terrorists groups themselves can only be explained by their own reasons and in their own words. Religious, political, individualistic or monetary, depends on for what or for whom they work for.

But the facet of Terrorism is many sided, thus whichever way we turn a new dimension of the sublime cruelty rises towards us and leaves us to think  if our previous judgement had been enough to counteract the tightening vices of this sin. A sin committed on us by the proclaimed sinners and the sin committed by us on the unknown faces of innocent bystanders.

"The estimated 66,000 children abducted by Joseph Kony were made guerrilla child soldiers by him. Ages not above 15."

We generally stereotype terrorism and terrorists as "Wrong, Evil and Unlawful" and in every case their actions are indeed all of these things. Innocent lives are lost, homes are destroyed, families are torn apart and lives are never the same again.

But sidelining the political agendas, criminal minds and the psychopathic souls which may contribute to active participation in terrorism, there are also those who have nothing on the gaining side, who have no agendas to proclaim power and who do not have any bending towards bloodshed but are seen standing on the wrong side.

C H I L D   S O L D I E R S       O F       O U R   W O R L D S

These are the recruits, the innocent young ones, the repressed happy faces of those kids who play in the gullies, the ones who look towards the sky in awe. These are the brains of infinite knowledge with unbound dreams, the stars of a future which will  never be theirs. They are the bullied, crippled and threatened individuals, the influenced, brainwashed and torn souls.

Over the years we have seen terrorist activities grow rapidly all over the world but what should also be pitied and mourned for, is the ages and situations of those who are made to carry out the dirty job, some of whom are as young as 12 or 13 years of age and some with no choices at all.

"A teenage girl captured with harmful weapons by Police Services reveals she was forced to carry these explosions by her brother."

The law states that any individual breaking the rules and regulations of society deserves to be punished because that individual had a choice NOT to break those rules and regulations but still chose to break them hence deserves to pay for the consequences of their inaccurate choices.

But can this be said for every criminal? for every terrorist? Are all terrorists the same? Are all of them bad and deserve to die? Or are some of them victims of the masterminds' who plan these gruesome activities? If so, do THESE (victim)terrorists be given the choice to lead a normal life outside of the realms of their camps?

"Rajiv Ghandi assassinated in a suicide bomb attack performed by a woman."

T H E   C U R I O U S   C A S E S
  W I T H   I N N O C E N T   H E A R T S

We cannot forgive them for the deaths and the loss and the grief that will haunt us. At least not all of them. And thus we cannot sit idle in confusion and just demand our victory on them. We need to bring about an agitation in ourselves to find answers.
So we urge to plan for a bigger goal, for the greater good.
To fight terrorism is not to become terrorists towards them but to cut the roots of its growth.

Look towards those young children made into murderers, do you not  think-
"so young to be fighting so many."
Feel the loss of those genius minds made into weapons, do you not think -
"so brilliant to be wasted like that."
Cry a little for those with death their only friend which can save their family, do you not think-
"they were loved and so he died for them."

Today as India accolades Anti-Terrorism Day, we plead a notion for this year, to fight for them who are unheard, those who mean no harm but have no choice and those whose identities are lost in the name of terrorism.
Today we will try and acknowledge that you do not become a terrorist just by standing next to one, you cannot profess someone a terrorist because their family held some and you cannot pull them down just because they belong to a country despaired by terrorism.

DISCLAIMER: The intention behind this thread is NOT to support any sort of terrorist activity but rather condemn it and understand the root causes behind such activities and to discuss how it can be eradicated from society.

OMAR KHADR

Pink or red?
BMW or Mini?
Jeans or Skirt?

We always have a choice, don't we? Be it something as small as deciding to buy a bar of chocolate or something as big as buying a house. Choices are part how we are brought up. But some are not as fortunate as us.

This is the story of a boy with no choice - Omar Khadr

Omar Ahmed Khadr is a Canadian citizen, born on 19th September, 1986. Omar was arrested in Afghanistan at the age of 15 in July 2002. He was accused of killing a U.S soldier by throwing a hand grenade and planting mines to target U.S convoys. Ever since then, Khadr is serving the punishment. Khadr was the youngest captive to be held by the United States at the Guantanamo Bay detention camp. It said said that his case is set to the first war crimes trail since World War II.

According to the Canadian Press, Khadr has been transferred to a medium security facility in February 2014. The location remained anonymous but it is said to be based in Alberta.
Omar's father, who had devoted himself in running an NGO in Afganistan to help the berated had once been accused to be an aide of a terrorist group. Some years later, a badly wounded Omar was rescued from death to be made a prisoner, his involvement in the attack had not been confirmed.

Caged at 15 with no clear evidences, Omar was proven guilty by a plea agreement that he signed, to which he himself agreed that it was not done because he is guilty but because he wanted the torture to end. Now, 27 he has spent his youth and will spend the rest of his life in a world that is confined to four walls.
After this incident, many youngsters were suspected of terrorism and some were also charged on the basis of suspect. It can been seen that an incident like this doesn't just effect one family. It effects the society and it's about time, we stand up against it.

AAFIA SIDDIQUI

In 2003, Dr. Aafia Siddiqui, traveling with her children to Islamabad, Pakistan disappeared. Later it was revealed she had been captured as a suspect for performing terrorist activities linked to Al-Qaeda. Witnesses of this capture/kidnapping state that Aafia's youngest child, was stomped to death on the street before she was dragged away by CIA kidnappers along with her other two children.

Thereafter, for five years, she was kept in a prison, raped and tortured until she was crippled before being taken to US. In 2008 she was charged and labelled as a terrorist. In 2010, a jury group which consisted of Israeli citizens convicted her and she was prosecuted by an Israeli Judge.

The background story behind her capture was a conspiracy by the US government at the time. Everyone who was closely involved in this case when interviewed agreed upon the fact that Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's involvement was fabricated by the Bush regime and CIA and her prosecution was planned by the Israeli intelligence with the Pakistani President at the time, G. Parvez Musharraf supporting them at every step.

More than 10 years on, there is no evidence to support her involvement but the US continues to hold her as a prisoner because releasing her would mean accepting she had no involvement which would damage their reputation. This is another reason why there is very little media coverage about this case and what little is provided portrays her in the negative limelight. Her family's pleas for her release till date remain unanswered and the chances of this woman ever being reunited with her loved ones are slim to none.

Aafia Siddiqui, an undergraduate from Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a PhD from Brandeis University was taken into the radar on the basis of the fact that she was religious and was involved in many charitable and educational work through her religious beliefs and that evidently she married an accused terrorist. Do you think this is fair?

MALALA YOUSAFZAI

Malala Yousafzai, a courageous 16 year old girl known to the world for her activism for the right to education for women in Swat, Pakistan her hometown.
In 2008, at the age of eleven Malala was asked to start a blog to raise awareness of the Taliban's growing control and influence in Swat. She talked about the ban the Taliban's had placed on schools and everything normal. By the time her blog had ended, her voice had reached a global platform and she was soon invited to take part in several international documentaries and interviews.

As Malala and her fight for the rights for education for girls became popular, so did the death threats. And in October 2012, whilst traveling home from school in her school bus, she was shot by a Taliban gunman who was later revealed to be a 23 year old graduate.
The chances of Malala's survival were extremely slim, in fact her father had even told their family members to organize her funeral.
Malala fought against all odds and recovered.
She received medical treatment in the UK and is currently settled in Birmingham receiving private education there.

Today, Malala continues to speak on the importance of education and has been nominated for a Noble Peace Prize in 2013 and 2014. She released a book called "I am Malala" which she gifted to Her Majesty- The Queen.
Reactions to Malala's story has been rather mixed, while the West admires her and continue to ensure she is kept in the limelight, other groups of people label West's interest in Malala as "hypocritical and an attempt to use her case to overlook the plight of other innocent girls that are victims of US attacks."

We can judge them either ways and use them for our own profit. But what becomes of them in life is a question we never ask. Here are stories of such three and there in the world around us live a thousand more like them. You can choose to forget them and leave their fate to those concerned or you can remember their stories and spread a word.

Terrorism, a detestable and heinous crime committed by the mankind involving violence and controversial act to the society defines the sick mentality of the brains behind them and not their patriotism towards their country. To mark a stop to this crime, Anti-Terrorism Day is observed every year on 21st of May throughout the country to promote peace and harmony.

On this very day in 1991, the ex-prime minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated by a human bomb near Sriperumbudur where he had gone for campaigning. The whole nation mourns a two minute silence to salute the heroism with the world to the people who fight against terrorism and to memorize the martyr of Rajiv Gandhi and the death of innocent souls due to gruesome terror attacks.

Pledge taking ceremonies, different awareness campaigns, seminars, lectures and programmes by social and cultural organizations are held in different parts of the country to generate awareness among the citizens and to highlight the innumerable effects and dangers of terrorism to the society and the world itself. It is the moral duty of every single citizen to drive out the act of terrorism and fight against this crime.

"Everyone's worried about stopping terrorism. Well, there's really an easy way: Stop participating in it." -Noam Chomsky

So how can we eradicate terrorism to the fullest? We stop our own terrorism. We cannot end terrorism by using the methods of terrorism. The idea of fighting violence with kindness, talks and understanding is a strategy that seems a little farfetched. But it is those that fight violence with violence, in truth beget more violence.

T A K E   A   S T E P   T O   B E   T H E I R   H E L P I N G    H A N D S

In this same world where we live, there are those who have nothing precious to themselves except for a piece of bread bestowed upon them once in a while. Such countries get the undivided attention of super powers who want to extend their territories. Lack of a basic life, education and a certain normalcy generally forces young generation to join the hands of anti-social elements . If people are given the freedom of living at free of cost, or even minimizing the costs, the trend of tilting towards  terrorism can be reduced.

Most of the unemployed or poor people are the pawns in the hand of terrorists. The terrorists, as we know are just puppets. Behind such an act of terrorism is another mastermind. Had the people been employed, educated and secure in their minimal life, they'd never have  fallen under the trap of such organizations.

Awareness plays a huge role to eradicate terrorism. The mass media has changed over the years, and has played a positive role in fighting against the terrorism by making the people aware of the real situations and of the conspiracies that give birth to such groups. But even then, there are some stories, some facts and some cries of plea out there which never reach the media sources and remain unheard and unknown.

The most sensible way to defeat terrorism is to not be terrorized. It is hysteria what the terrorist want. We actually have all the power, and there's only one thing we can do to make terrorism ineffective: Refuse to become terrorized.

Our intention today was only to make you aware about those with whom we share this world but about whom we have no knowledge about.
Living in a certain leisure of a secure nation, family, there are times even when our own blood boils and screams to take an action, to make a dent.
So think of those who have left the fear of death far behind. When they decide to take an action what do you make them scared of? How do you deal with those who cannot be intimidated by a threat of end?
Share your views with us and be involved, even if through words.

V nice thread with lot of info. It's sad and outrageous that honest and innocent ppl are forced to admit to a crime they did not commit so they can be freed. Gov'ts just want to look good in front of their voters and don't care about whether they've arrested real criminal or innocent person,
