CHAPTER - 1
In the breakfast table,on listening about adoption,Mayank's grandmother Savitri Devi screamed,"Kya???Hamaare khaandaan mein goad liya hua bachcha?Tu paagal ho gaya hai Mayank??"Mayank replied,"Isme itna chaukne waali kaunsi baat hai?Nupur ke saath 3 baar haadse ho chuke hai aur ab doctor ne bhi keh diya hai ke abhi uske liye conceive karna khatre se khaali nehi hai.Vo bhi ek aurat hai,uska bhi dil karta hoga na ma banne ka,apne bachche ke muh se ma shabd sunne ka.Just isiliye ke vo ma nehi ban sakti main usse ma kehlaane ka haq nehi cheen sakta.Hume ek bachcha chahiye isliye humne tey kiya hai ke hum ek bachcha goad lenge."Mayank's aunt Ratna replied,"Aur vaise bhi humne to tujhe kaha hi tha ke dusri shaadi karle,tab to bachcha goad lene ki bhi zarurat nehi paregi,teri apni aulaad hogi tere paas."She gave a taunting look to Nupur and said,"Jo aurat ma nehi ban sakti hai,usme aur ek laash mein koi fark nehi hai.Aurat hokar agar ek nayi zindagi ko is duniya mein la hi nehi sakti hai to laalat hai aisi aurat par."Mayank,in a disgusted manner said,"Bua aap khud bhi to ek aurat hai,aap aisa kaise keh sakti hai?Nupur ya koi bhi aurat koi bachcha paida karne ki machine nehi hai."He turned towards Savitri and asked,"Aur daadi aap???Aap ne bhi to ek beti ko janam diya hai,phir aapko betiyo se itni cheer kyu hai?"Savitri replied,"Maine beti ko janam diya hai ye baat sahi hai par uske saath saath maine is khaandaan ko ek beta bhi diya hai,par teri bhabhi aur teri patni ne abhi tak is khaandaan ko ek bhi waaris nehi diya hai.Vansh beto se chalta hai,betiyo se nehi."Mayank,in a disappointed tone,nodded his head and said,"Hairaani hoti hai mujhe ye soch kar ke aap log sheher mein rehte hai.Arey pichre huye sheher ke logo ke khaayalat bhi aapse achche hai.Bhaiya ne bilkul thik kiya to babhi aur bachcho ko lekar ye ghar chor diya,kamsekam sukoon se reh to rahe hai.Agar mujhe ma ka khayaal nehi hota to main bhi chala jaata yaha se."Shilpa was always a very soft spoken women and she always tried to avoid chaos in the house and so she always did what was told to her without any kind of objection and she was very scared of her husband and mother-in-law,so she tried to cool Mayank down and asked him to sit and have his breakfast and Nupur was silently shedding her tears.Mayank's father,Rajendra Sharma,scolded Mayank,"Mayank ye kya tareeka hua baro se baat karne ka,ye mat bhulo ke ye tumhaari daadi hai.Maafi mango inse!!"Shilpa slowly said,"Maafi mangle beta,please!!"Mayank never liked his mother's coward nature and so he said,"Aap jab aajtak inhe kuch nehi bol paayi mom,to aaj bhi aap mujhe kuch mat kahiye.Main yaha aapke vajah se reh raha hu iska matlab ye nehi hai ke main ye saari manmaani sahunga."He got up from his sit and said,"Khair!!Maine aapko adoption ki baat isliye kaha kyuki Nupur chahti thi ke main aapko ye baat batau,varna,maine already ek adoption centre mein baat kar li hai,aaj bas jaakar hume ek bachche ko dekhna hai."Ratna exclaimed,"Kya???Tune sab kuch tey bhi kar liya hai??To ab hume kyu bata raha hai?"Mayank replied,"Formality ki hai,bas aur kuch nehi.Vaise bhi,life hamaari hai,bachcha hume chahiye,jab aapko dusro ke emotions ki koi parvaah nehi haito mujhe bhi aapke soch ki koi parvaah nehi hai.Inform karna mera farz tha jo maine kiya,abhi main aur Nupur adoption centre ja rahe hai."Nupur asked,"Par tumne to mujhe is baare mein kuch bhi nehi bataya?"He replied,"Main tumhe surprise karna chahta tha par khair abhi chalo."Rajendra was about to warn him about the adoption but Mayank stopped him and said,"Agar aap mujhe ghar se nikaalne ki dhamki dene ja rahe hai dad to jisdin main is ghar se dur jaaunga vo din meri zindagi ka sabse khushi ka din hoga."Both Nupur and Mayank left from there.Before they were going to leave for the adoption centre,Shilpa came to them and said to Nupur,"Nupur beta,tu to jaanti hai ke main inke saamne kuch nehi kar sakti par main tum dono ke saath hu.Dhruv aur Anjali ke jaane ke baad ye ghar bilkul khaali ho gaya hai.Is ghar mein ek bachche ki zarurat hai jo mujhe daadi bulaayega.Tum log abhi jaao aur jaldi se bachche ke saath ghar waapas aana."Nupur nodded her head and both of them left.
On reaching the adoption centre,Mayank and Nupur came to meet the lady-in-charge of the centre.The lady welcomed them and asked them to have sit.Mayank said,"Ye meri wife hai,maine aapse baat ki thi ke hume ek bachcha goad lena hai."The lady replied,"Ya sure,to kahiye aapko larka chahiye ya larki."Mayank looked at Nupur and she said,"Mera bohot mann tha ke mere paas ek choti si beti ho."Mayank asked the lady to take them to the rooms of the kids.One woman came to their aid and took them to the kids' room.When they went to the kids' room,they found there were many boys and girls happily playing with each other.While Nupur was looking at all the kids,she didn't find the kid which she wanted.She said to Mayank,"Mayank mujhe koi bhi bachcha pasand nehi aaya hai,chalo kahi aur chalte hai."Mayank nodded his head.Just the moment,they were about to turn to leave,suddenly someone came out in the open and called the caretaker woman and in an complaining,tone said,"Maachi(maasi),dekho na vo ganni didi ne mei dolu ka haath tol diya.Ganni didi hai vo,uchko daato!!"Mayank,Nupur and that woman turned towards the voice.Nupur was surprised to find a small girl was standing in front of them with a doll in her hand with its arm broken and the girl was looking very angry.Nupur realized that she was the exact girl whom Nupur wanted to have.The woman just was about to attend the girl,but Nupur walked towards the girl and kneeled down in front of her and asked,"Aapki doll ka aath toot gaya??Main thik kardu?"The girl looked surprisingly at Nupur and was at first hesitant to give her doll,but later on due to that kind look in Nupur's eyes,she gave the doll.Nupur fixed the doll and returned that to the girl and asked,"Aapka naam kya hai beta?"The girl replied,"Mu!!"Nupur looked confusingly at that woman and she said,"Ye Muskaan hai,3 saal ki bachchi hai."Nupur smiled at Muskaan and said,"Arey vaah aapka naam to bohot pyaara hai."Muskaan said to that woman"Maachi mei mamma aaye to bolna ke main unche katti hu aul kabhi baat nei kaungi."The woman nodded his head and Nupur asked Muskaan,"Aap apni mamma se naraaz kyu ho?"Muskaan replied,"Mamma kyu nei aati mee paach??Mudhe mamma ke paach lehna hai.Paak (park) mein na chabke paach mamma hai,mee paach nei hai.Mu ke paach mamma hai hi nei.Bai maachi kehti hai,mamma kho gayi.Mudhe mamma ke paach jaana hai.Mei mamma ko la do na."Nupur's heart squeezed so much that she felt like crying when she heard her saying like that.She felt an unknown strong connection with Muskaan.She hugged Muskaan and said,"Aapke paas mamma nehi hai aur mujhe mamma kehne waala koi nehi hai."Nupur kissed both her hands and then asked,"Agar main kahu ke main hi aapki mamma hu to kya aap mujhe mamma bulaaogi?"Muskaan looked towards Nupur with wide eyes and asked,"Aap mei mamma ho?"Nupur nodded her head and then replied,"Ha main hi aapki mamma hu.Par aap mujhse naraaz to nehi hogi na?"Muskaan immediately hugged Nupur and started pampering her much more then Nupur did and said,"Mei mamma!!Mei aththi mamma!!"Muskaan kissed on her face and then called everyone and said,"Dekho dekho,mei mamma aayi hai,ab Mu apni mamma ke paach lahegi."Nupur picked Muskaan up and said to Mayank,"Mayank main isko hi apne saath lekar jaaungi.Tum saara intezaam kardo."They took Muskaan to the in-charge's room.
On getting there,Muskaan happily said to the in-charge lady,"Bai maachi bai maachi,Mu mamma miggayi(mil gayi).Main mei mamma ke paach laungi."The lady smiled and replied,"Ha ha Muskaan apni mamma ke saath rahegi."The moment,she got Nupur as her mother,Muskaan all the time,was there in the lap of Nupur hugging her by her neck and curiously staring at another stranger for her and that was Mayank.While all were having words regarding the adoption formality,it was decided that until and unless the adoption is performed legally,Muskaan had to be in the centre only,but Nupur opposed to this.She said,"Ye legal formalities ye sab aap log jaane,vo aapka kaam hai,par main ab ek minute bhi Muskaan ko apne se alag nehi rehne dungi.Aapko jo karna hai aap kijiye par aaj main usko ghar lekar hi jaaungi.Main kuch nehi jaanti."Mayank and the lady tried to explain her but Nupur was not ready to listen to anything.At last,seeing her adamant attitude,it was decided that Muskaan would leave with them and the formality would be completed at the due time.Muskaan's all belongings were packed and then while leaving,Muskaan asked Nupur,"Mamma ye kaun hai?"Nupur looked at Mayank and said,"Ye tumhaare papa hai."Muskaan looked curiously at Mayank and then asked,"Papa ganne hote hai?"Nupur replied,"Nehi!!!Bilkul bhi nehi!!!Papa bilkul mamma jitney achche hote hai.Vo aapko ghumaane lekar jaayege,park mein lekar jaayenge.Aap jaha jaha jaana chaho waha lekar jaayenge.Muskaan ko uske papa mamma se bhi zyaada pyar karenge."Mayank bowed down towards Muskaan and asked,"Muskaan ne to mamma ko itna saara pyaara kiya to abhi papa ko kya milega?"Muskaan smiled and then kissed on Mayank's cheek.When Mayank tried to take her in his arms,she denied and while hugging Nupur,she replied,"Nei,Mu mamma ke paach laegi."Mayank understood that since Muskaan was only aware of mother,being the best person,she wouldn't trust father like the same way.So she required some time and space to adjust herself with Mayank.While Mayank was driving back home,while sitting in Nupur's lap,Muskaan asked,"Mamma,mudhe aap toyi chunaaogi na aul...toc bhi dogi na..."Nupur confusingly asked,"Toc???"Muskaan tried to explain,"Toc..toc..."She acted of having lollipos.Nupur understood and replied,"Oh chocolate!!!Achcha thik hai,mamma aapko chocolates degi par thora thora varna Muskaan ke data kharaab ho jaayege aur mamma Muskaan ko dher saari stories sunaayengi aur aapko jo achcha lagta hai,mamma sab aapko bana kar khilaayegi."Muskaan asked,"Main jab cho jaaungi,aap gaana gaaogi na aul main aapke goadi mein choungi."Nupur kissed on Muskaan's forehead and said,"Ha beta."Mayank said,"Aur papa roz office se aate waqt aapke liye dher saare khilone lekar aayege."Muskaan asked,"Dolu,tei,haaoom bhi??"Mayank asked,"Haaooom???"Muskaan made a scary face and acted like a tiger and Mayank said,"Ha ha dolu bhi laaunga,teddy bhi laaunga aur haaoom bhi."Muskaan nodded her head happily and they all reached the gate of their home.
