Found this beautiful article online:

THE LOVE- LETTER

Uddhava was Krishna's friend and cousin.

He was highly educated - a serious scholar of the Vedic texts. He was an intellectual of such calibre that he knew every verse of every scripture, every argument and counter argument. He knew the Upanishads and Sutras inside out.

He apprenticed with Krishna at one point of time. He felt that he richly deserved the title of "Maharishi" or "Great Sage", and in fact, it was rather long overdue. He was annoyed that this recognition was getting delayed and - well - no one seemed to give much importance to his academic brilliance and dazzling qualifications in the Gurukul.

Finally, unable to contain himself, he expressed his dissatisfaction to Krishna.

"Have you really understood the crux of it all, Uddhava? Are you ready? Do you think that your studies are complete?" asked a smiling Krishna.

"Why of course!" asserted Uddhava confidently -"There isn't anything left for me to study!"

Krishna nodded thoughtfully, and finally said that he will do something about it, but needed a small favour from him first. He wanted Uddhava to visit Radha and give her a love letter from him.

Uddhava gladly agreed. However, till he mounted his chariot, Krishna showed no signs of giving anything to deliver. Finally, before bidding farewell, he asked Krishna. Krishna looked surprised, then grinned sheepishly and said that he had nothing.

A surprised Uddhava embarked on the long journey. He couldn't help feeling that Krishna was rather stone hearted when it came to Radha. How could he leave her if he loved her? How would she feel if he went to her empty handed? He had to do something about it! So just before reaching Vrindavan, he got a parch- paper and wrote a random love message in it, and forged it to look like it came from Krishna.

When he reached Radha's abode, he was welcomed with warmth. She looked - well, he couldn't put his finger on it - but strangely at peace. There seemed to be a supreme contentment about her, a quiet, deep and profound sense of completeness. He had come here a wailing, bitter and resentful woman. Perhaps she was trying to put up a front before a respected academician like him.

He made small talk to her. Sensing a melancholy in her eyes, he told her that life is full of suffering and separation, and that the scriptures talk about detachment from material things.

She smiled at him.

He then embarked on Advaitic philosophy, and said to her that in the ultimate sense, separation is not possible, because we are all part of the same super soul.

She smiled at him.

Perhaps she did not understand. He was completely unnerved and uncomfortable. Finally he handed to her the parchment paper and said that it is a love letter from her beloved.

As she examined the parchment, he squirmed uncomfortably, hoping she would not find out that it was forged. He did not want her to feel that Krishna had simply just forgotten.

Her smile broadened and she beamed at him with twinkling eyes. Pretending surprise, he asked her what it said.

"My dear Uddhava, it says that you have not understood! Your study is not complete. You are not ready".

Uddhava was stunned. And that was when she broke out into a heartfelt, musical and uncontrollable laughter. Here was a simple, illiterate milkmaid laughing at the brilliant academician as though he was a moron.

"How do you know?" stammered Uddhava.

"O Uddhava! I don't need a love letter from Krishna! He does not need to send me messages. There is nothing left to be said between the two of us. HE is my message. This entire universe is Krishna's love letter to me!"

Uddhava sat there and listened, as all his knowledge crumbled in the face of her intuitive wisdom. It was then that he realized, knowledge without wisdom was of no use.

"You have not understood our love! We aren't separate. We merge into each other. They say he is the Lord of the Universe. Well then, in that case, I don't feel separate from anything in the Universe - including you - because you too are him".

Uddhava was speechless. Wait - Radha had just explained to him the essence of the Upanishads - the non duality of Advaita.

Every word of hers, in the simple language of a milk maid in love, was explaining the deepest mysteries in life. The subtlest truth that he had theoretically read was living in front of his eyes. All he wanted to do was stay there and listen to her.

He spent the whole day with Radha, just absorbing her love for Krishna like a dry sponge. She spoke in layman's terms, molten Upanishadic wisdom in the language of love. And she was not even aware of it. He found answers to the most profound questions.

Radha turned Uddhava's learning upside down. All the constant chatter, doubts, theories, ego, pride and questions in his mind just dissolved. He saw a totally new world.

On his way back to Dwaraka, Uddhava was a changed man. He hummed to himself. There was a skip in his walk and a song in his heart. He offered lift to a sick man. The same sunset that he had seen, but not registered on his earlier journey now exploded in its pristine beauty. With his ego hushed, the whole world seemed like a beautiful, peaceful, eternal and wonderful place.

When Krishna saw him and greeted him, he did not even enquire about Radha. Instead he said, "Now, let's talk about your title Maharishi".

"You know what, I am not interested in it anymore" replied Uddhava and hugged Krishna.

"But now, you are ready! You have understood, and your studies are complete!"
