When an orthodox woman points at a girl wearing non-traditional or "inappropriate clothes (in her POV) and comments , she is basically spreading an opinion about the character and culture of the girl non-conforming with her views. Such orthodox women often can be heard saying how girls are inviting trouble by wearing the short skirt, this conditions the mind of her children especially sons, who might view every other girl not dressing like his mother as of inferior character, easy and inviting rape. The finger of accusations shifts to the girl in case of a rape if she was not dressed properly . The boy might grow up not having a respectful opinion for such girls, and if his self-control is not efficient , he might snap and would not feel the gravity of the crime he has done.# 2, yes she is forcing wrong notions about a particular form of dress but I don't think it will have any impact in terms of someone turning into rapist or telling him that this wrong deserve to be dealt with another wrong. It might not explicitly facilitate rape but it does give them a leeway or an exit . The women's dressing sense became more important that what she went through. So a guy can rape and blame it to the girl as she was wearing inappropriate clothes. He in his mind might say that the girl was calling for it? This is how defense of a rapist works.# 3, As I said rapist has to do much much more with a person's own mental and physical imbalance and then there are trigger factors which can set off an action.@Bold - You said it yourself trigger factors, the social conditioning is part of those factors. It shapes how we view a girl in the society and judge her character and dignity by the clothes she wears. It makes men decide if they can do heinous crime to the girl just because her life style is not traditionalist like say she is drinking and dancing. Sub-counciously the girl would be questioned .I still fail to see any connection. You are tying up different points. I believe more important factors are person himself, and the rule of law and punishment which can curb such acts. Even among trigger factors there are many many other things which are more important like movies etc. anywayIt is the person ofcourse in the end, but a man is made up of as much as his own mental make-up , as also by his social environment , we cannot deny the influence of the later. Interesting you mentioned movies, because they only influence if there is only a social conditioning. The guys would feel titillated if they see a girl in short dress dancing , because they have been told that any female wearing such clothes is uncultured, inviting trouble and is cheap. Hence demeaning women.
