Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to bowl

Here we go, then, under mily blue skies, Cook and Sam Robson are at the crease. Nuwan Kulasekara with the new ball from the Pavilion End... Three slips and a gully to Alastair Cook.

There's a bit of pace, bounce and movement out there... but looks to be coming on to the bat, too

3.6

Pradeep to Robson, OUT, full again, draws the stroke and got him! Prasanna doesn't drop this one, silence echoes around Lord's as Robson's debut innings comes to a swift end... Decent delivery from Pradeep, just held its line on the slope from the Nursery End, was wide enough to leave, though. Good diving take from PJ, by the way, no clash of cymbals this time

6.1

Kulasekara to Cook, OUT, chopped on, Cook has done for himself! Wasn't quite wide enough to cut, maybe didn't swing as much as some of Kulasekara's deliveries this morning, the batsman got a little cramped and the ball cannoned down into the stumps. Sri Lanka are whooping it up, they have both openers in the hutch and Lord's is a basket of nerves...

Kulasekara to Ballance, FOUR, stays back and steers a thick outside edge low through the slips - of which there are four or five - and it runs away down the hill

End of over 9 (4 runs) England 37/2

    • GS Ballance12 (14b 2x4 0x6)
    • IR Bell0 (7b 0x4 0x6)

Kulasekara to Ballance, FOUR, bit of extra width and slashed through backward point, a real lamb shank of a cut shot but it was in the air and Kausal Silva threw himself horizontal, just getting a fingertip to it. Went far too fast to call it a chance, though

Mathews to Bell, FOUR, oooh, lurvely stroke from Bell, overpitched on middle and off from Mathews, met with the full face of the bat and it glides down the ground for four to long-on
