Pradeep to Ballance, OUT, pitched up, draws a flat-footed drive and Sri Lanka have another! Pradeep lands one on the money and Ballance pays out, wasn't to the pitch and a healthy edge sailed through low to the keeper

Pradeep to Bell, FOUR, Kapow! Nuwan hammers this in short, doesn't get up much and Bell crumps a swivel-pull authoritatively in front of deep midwicket for another four

Pradeep to Bell, FOUR, short again and at the body, Bell helps this on its way round the corner and it beats the man on the boundary at fine leg

That's lunch on Day 1. 98/3, both teams should be happy but probably you would say, Sri Lanka are just ahead at the moment. Having opted to field first, Sri Lanka bowled well upfront to get the early wicket of debutant Sam Robson. Skipper Alastair Cook struggled before chopping on onto the stumps. As always, Ian Bell came in and batted freely, Gary Ballance gave him good company as well. However, just after their stand went past 50, Angelo Mathews brought back Nuwan Pradeepand he removed Ballance in his very first over of the second spell. Joe Root joined Bell at the crease and the duo batted sensibly to carry their bats. All the bowlers bowled well. Pradeep got two wickets while Kulasekara bagged one.

Herath to Bell, SIX, down the wicket and a glorious lofted drive into the Edrich Stand, great footwork and the timing was excellent

Eranga to Bell, FOUR, overpitched just outside off stump and Bell leans into it and times it perfectly through extra-cover to go to an attractive fifty

Eranga to Bell, OUT, full and angled in, strikes the pad and a huge cry for lbw, not out given but Sri Lanka don't hesitate too much before reviewing. Not bat involved, it looks close, is it too high? No it isn't, Hawk Eye has the delivery going on to take the top of middle stump, a very good review and they've taken a big wicket, England checked yet again
