Chapter 2
Taani finally found her seat; it wasn't that difficult as it was an empty train. She placed her luggage and sat on her seat adjusting her ghagra. She took a deep breath out of frustration as she realized that Rey was still staring at her all surprised and worried. She raised her eyebrows,
"Kya?? Gurr kyu rahe ho? pehle kabhi ladki nahi dekhi kya?"
Sitting opposite her, Rey smiled and touched his back to the compartment wall
"Aise type ki nahi dekhi, I mean, tumhara hone wala pati station pe reh gaya aur tum ho ki itni cool ho yaha"
Taani gulped as she heard him; obviously she didn't want him to know her real truth, what if he creates a scene and reports her to the police or something. And anyways, just because he helped her get into the train, doesn't mean she tells him her whole biography. She quickly ignores him and stares outside the window.
Rey was still astonished. This trip was just getting better and better for him. He loved adventure but this was so much fun. He stared at her head to toe trying to guess what must have gone wrong, was she late and he left before her or did her bridegroom ditch her last minute and didn't climb in the train? His eyes fell on her feet; he raised his eyebrows out of surprise which Taani noticed. He gave her a sarcastic smile,
"You're a fashion disaster, Shaadi ki kapdo mein koi sneakers' pehen ke aata hai kya? No wonder tumhare boyfriend tumhare saath train pe nai aya."
He said this hoping that she would tell him her story about where exactly is her partner, but he got disappointed as she simply covered her feet with her skirt and looked outside the window again.
Taani wanted to ignore him as much as she could. She had already taken a huge risk of her life and she didn't want to add "talking to a stranger in an empty train" to her risk list. She quickly removes her duppatta which was on hair and draped it around her shoulder covering her waist. The jingling noise of her bangles was annoying her now. She took it off one by one and kept it inside her bag pack. Out of nervousness and excitement she kept moving her feet in fast motion.
Rey was still guessing why she was alone. He kept rubbing his chin trying to think and assume things in his mind. Suddenly he raised his eyebrows and smiled as if he had solved a mystery case on his own, he pointed his index finger towards her,
"Tumhara boyfriend Chandigarh mein hai, aur jaise hi yeh train Chandigarh mein jayegi, tum seeda uske paas jake shaadi karne wali ho."
Taani gave him a sarcastic look, Rey smile faded away and he sighed as he realized he was wrong again.
"Well jo bhi reasons hai, I feel sad for Mr.S"
Taani eyes popped out. Her heart beat was beating at 100kmph now. Thoughts were rushing through her mind. How did he know that his name starts with S? Is he related to Shivam? Did he already inform them and now they will find her? What the hell just happened?
"Mr. S??? Tum Shivam ko kaise jante ho???" asked Scared Taani.
Rey gave her a wide smile, he giggled for few seconds as he rubbed his forehead. He glanced at her and moved ahead from his seat and held her hand.
"Shivam?? Nice name. Main Shivam ko nahi janta, wo toh bass tumhare haatho pe S likha hai na so!!"
He showed her , her mehendi design with S right in the center of her palm. She shut her eyes out of relief. She could still hear her thumping heart. Annoyed Taani looked at Rey and shrugged her hands off his. She adjusted her skirt and duppatta again trying to avoid him as she was feeling little embarrassed for acting so dumb.
Rey was still smiling as he found it quite funny. He scratched his chin and cheeks trying really hard to stop smiling like that.
Taani scanned at her mehendi again, flashbacks of her mehendi ceremony just played in her mind, which was the first time she saw her mother dance on Mehendi laga ke rakhna, her grandmother was laughing out as if she was watching a comedy show. It was indeed funny and Taani was sitting with the mehendi, she wanted to laugh too, but was holding it back because she wasn't talking to her mother that day as taani had tried to convince her mom again but she didn't listen to her. Adding to her frustration, Tara and her other cousins kept annoying her asking her to give Blushing bride type expressions' for their selfie's.
Her thoughts were distracted after a few minutes as Rey cleared his throat and starting whistling a tune and then in a low tone but loud enough for Taani to hear, he started singing,
"Satyam Shivam Sundaram...aaahhh...Satyam Shivam.." he stopped there and raised his eyebrows as he looked at Taani who was now staring at him again. He sat straight, trying to play clean with her,
"What?? Ab gana gaa raha hu. Usme kya problem ho rahi hai tume?"
Taani noded her head, "You don't try to act smart with me okay? Just because main shaadi ki jode main baithi hu toh yeh mat samajna ki main koi abla nari hu okay? Mere gusse ko tum jante nahi, mujme bohot guts hai"
Rey who was trying to provoke her smirked and started smiling as if she cracked at joke, which he was successful in provoking as Taani was staring at him in anger.
She took a deep breath in, "Tum muje koi nazuk anarkali type ki ladki mat samajna, main bohot hard core ladki hu okay??"
Rey nodded his head in an approval but was still pretending as if he would burst out laughing any moment. Taani sucked her cheek in and looked outside the window trying to control her temper. Within a few seconds she moved a little ahead of her seat,
"Delhi ki M.A.I.I college ka naam suna hai?? Modi Academic International institute?? Waha muje fresher of the year ka award mila tha, saare tasks pure kiye the maine, saare ki saare!!" She gave him a victory smile hoping that this was enough to shut him up.
But to her surprise Rey smiled again, he went back to his normal sitting position as if he wasn't impressed at all, "Amity school of communication ka naam toh sunna hi hoga tumne. Haan haan wohi, Noida mein hi hai, Waha muje Student of the year ka award mila tha, and not only that, muje 6 months ka internship bhi diya tha,waha 100 students mein se sirf 1 ko milta hai internship"
He said it so casually as if that was just nothing. Taani took a deep breath in. But she didn't want to give up, not yet. She moved even further reaching on the edge of her seat.
"Humare ilake ki main eklouti ladki hu jo bike pe stunts karti hai!! main wheelie, stoppie aur 360 maar sakti hu"
Rey scratched his head and sighs, giving her a very cold pale look, "Well, Shamnath marg pe na har Thursday ko Delhi ka har ek biker stunt karne ata hai. Waha pe log mere naam pe bet lagate hai. Aur har baar jit bhi jate hai" He nodded his head, "Kuch bhi kaho tumme mere itna guts toh nahi hai".
His last sentence triggered Taani as she stood up annoyingly "Guts?? Tume mere guts ka koi andaza hi nahi hai. Maine 3 baar apne teacher ki gaadi ka tyres puncture kiya hai, aur toh aur apne college mein agar kahi ragging hoti thi na toh mere paas ake complain karte the!!! Aur batau mere guts k bare mein?? Mujme itna guts hai ki aaj main khud apni shaadi se bhag k jaa rahi hu. Itne saare logo k bechme se nikalne k liye guts chaiye na? (Sat back on her seat) Ab batao, mere level ka guts hai tumme?"
Rey covered his mouth in a very melodramatic way, with which Taani realized what she just burped out. She caught her forehead and recalled what her mother used to say to her, "Taani bolne se pehle 2 min soch toh lia karo"
Surprised Rey was still with his mouth covered; he stared at Taani and within a few minutes burst out laughing. Taani removed her hand from her head and gave him an evil eye.
"Tum... tum apni shaadi se bhag k jaa rahi ho??" Rey covered his mouth again and controlled himself from laughing.
Taani looked to her side in the train, there was no one around. She turned facing him. Rey was getting curious minute by minute, he couldn't stop guessing,
"But why??? Let me guess!!! Kahi tumari shaadi kisi buddhe se toh nahi hone wali thi? You know koi business man jiski yeh 5th ya 6th baar shaadi ho rahi hai."
By her look he realized that he was wrong, he took a second guess, "Owhkay!! Ab samjah, tumhari umar nahi hui shaadi ki aur gharwale tumari shaadi karne chale..you know like...(thinking too hard for few seconds) Ballika Vadhu!! Haan.. tum ballika vadhu ho"
Taani couldn't tolerate his voice anymore, she caught her bag pack and moved towards the other compartment avoiding Rey who was constantly asking where was she going. Rey Sat back on his seat as she left still with a huge smile as he found all this so amusing and Taani so interesting. He so loved mystery and suspense.
Sitting in the other compartment Taani kept bitting her nails " Itni bewakoof kaise ho sakti hai tu Taani. (She turned and looked at Rey who was now working on his laptop, Taani raised her eyebrows' in concern) Kahi emails toh nahi bhej raha police walo ko, ya phir facebook pe apna status dal raha hoga, lost and found!!" She hit her forhead in frustration, "wo tuje bhadkata gaya aur tu bhadakti gai, tujse bada duffer nahi hai Taani, sach mein!!" She leaned her head on the wall of the compartment, "Hey God allah aur bhagwan , 2 minute k liye muje mute mode pe nai dal sakte tha kya!!please! ab Aap tino muje bachalo"
She turned again to see if Rey was done, she felt peace when she saw him watching his own video on his laptop. He wasn't messing around with her. She could rest in peace now.
