Nice quiz Shirley. 
I like listening to patriotic songs in general, it fills me with a sense of rightness and positivism... and there are so many...

1. Vandemataram... the old one... Anand Math

2. Ae mere watan ke logon... 
Hoke majboor mujhe... 
Also Kar chale hum fida... all from Haqeeqat

3. Jahan daal daal par... Sikandar-e-Azam
4. Apni azadi ko hum... Leader
5. Chitti aayi hai... Naam
6. Bharat humko jaan... Roja
7. Sandese aate hain... Border
8. Zindagi maut na ban jaaye... Sarfarosh
9. Maa tujhe salaam... AR Rahman's album
10. Ghar aaja pardesi... DDLJ
11. Des Rangila... Fanaa
12. There used to be an ad on Doordarshan about 25 years back - Mile sur mera tumhara... set in Desh raag. I loved that!

y sorry? on the contrary I loved ur response - it was so long n reminded me of so many beautiful songs... esp 'mile sur mera tumhara' - I loved this song a lot at the time, slowly, over tym forgot

beautiful song choices.
 
I like saare jahan se acha, but its not my fave.. sowie..
 
but its lyrics have very similar meaning and feel.. try again.. u r quite near😃 
 
My hint still remains the same everyone - no one has mentioned that song so far in this thread
