Eid Mubarak!
By: Khair
The day that is anxiously awaited by the entire Islamic
community, the day that marks the end of the month of Ramadan and the
begginning of the month of Shawwal in the Islamic
Calender, that auspicious day of Eid-ul-Fitr is here.
The Muslims fast during the month of Ramadan, and Eid not only represents a celebration at the end of the period of fasting, but it is also signifies a day of peace, piety, brotherhood, unity, and forgiveness. Muslims thank God on this blessed day for having given them strength to complete their religious journey through Ramadan and for giving them the self control that is vital during these fasts.
For any Muslim, the day of Eid usually starts with namaz or prayers in the mosque, followed by greeting "Eid mubarak" to family and friends, and having a lavish feast with them. Biryani and kheer top the list of menu's of these meals in many families.
The festivities of the day stay for long in the memories of these folks. Especially if given a a big Eidee, which
is usually a sum of money given to children and younger members of the
family by the elders. But for Hussain, the star of the well-known
Hindi soap, Kumkum - Ek Pyaara sa
Bandhan the memory from his best Eid did not include any
Eidee, in fact, it was something as simple but completely
loving memory of a gathering with friends and family. He says, "Our
whole family stays in one big building. So the occassion of Eid is one
occassion where the whole family gets together. There is awesome food
made at home, biryani and stuff like that. We all enjoy the phenomenal
food and the big gathering." Looks like Biryani got into his menu
as well. Gatherings are always fun, but celebrating the day with
people your age is definitely the cherry on top of the cake.
Hussain continues, " We cousins are all moer or less of the same age,
so it is a complete ball. We enjoyed the entire day." So, he got
his cherry, eh? That's what you call a perfect day on Eid!
But what has Hussain planned for this year? Is it going to be something like the perfect Eid, even in his busy schedule or will it be something different? Hussain simply states, it will be a day "that will bring huge smiles on our faces". How - you may ask? He answers saying, "Eid is basically an occassion where we start the day by greeting our elders. We look forward to meeting our friends and relatives. The freshness of this particular day of Eid always remains in our heart for one full year." And, we hope everyone's Eid is as memorable and brings as many smiles on every Muslim's face to keep the feeling of Eid alive till next year!
Eid Mubarak, everyone!
