The movie Balle Balle From Amritsar To LA is a Bollywood style screen adaptation of Jane Austen's 19th Century classic, Pride and Prejudice, directed by Gurinder Chaddha, of Bend it like Beckham fame.
The story begins with a shot of the lush green landscape of Amritsar, Punjab to the tune of Meri Desh Ki Dharti from Manoj Kumar's film, Upkar, in the background. There is a grand wedding in town.
For Mrs Bakshi(Nadira Babbar), it is an ideal setting to find matches for her marriageable daughters Jaya, Lalitha (Namrata Shirodkar, Aishwarya Rai). Three tourists - Balraj (Naveen Andrews), Kiran (Indira Varma) - both NRIs - and a British friend, Will Darcy (Martin Henderson) land up for the wedding. Sparks fly when they meet Mrs Bakshi's daughters.
Jaya, the plain-Jane eldest daughter, has a courtship with Balraj but the main protagonists are Lalitha, the headstrong second daughter and Will Darcy, who are attracted to each other. Lalitha, who has definite ideas about marriage and the quiet Darcy, who is flabbergasted by Indian paraphernalia have their ups and downs but love triumphs in the end.

Vishal (Ajay Devgan), a stock analyst, is in search for a flat for his wife Swati (Urmila Matondkar) and himself. He finds the perfect place on the 12th floor of a tall apartment building. The flat has a problem - the previous occupant, a young woman, had plunged to her death from the balcony. But a non-superstitious Vishal does not let this affect his decision to shift in. He just neglects to inform Swati about this.
Eventually, Swati finds out about the young woman's death. She starts losing sleep and imagines things. She gets distressed. What Vishal thinks is a psychological problem, begins to unravel into the unexplainable. He becomes helpless.
In a fight to save Swati, Vishal will have to reach out into the horrifying and discover the truth.
More characters are introduced - Nana Patekar, Rekha, Tanuja, Fardeen Khan, Victor Banerjee… and the reasons that prompted the ghost to haunt the house are unveiled.
