Happpppy Raksha Bandhan to all the brothers and sisters out there πŸ˜ƒ

Firstly.. for those of you who may not know much about Raksha Bandhan.. or Rakhri as some of us call it (in Punjabi πŸ˜†) let me give you some information I found about this sacred festival. I personally think its a beautiful tradition!

Rakhi: The Thread of Love

Raksha Bandhan is the celebration of brothers and sisters. It is one festival that primarily belongs to the North and Western regions of India but celebrated throughout the country with the same verve. Regional celebrations may be different but Raksha bandhan has become an integral part of those customs

As per the traditions, the sister on this day prepares the pooja thali with diya, roli, chawal and rakhis. She worships the deities, ties Rakhi to the brother(s) and wishes for their well being. The brother in turn acknowledges the love with a promise to be by the sisters' side through the thick and thin and gives her a token gift.

The festival has been celebrated in the same way with the same traditions for centuries. Only the means have changed with the changing lifestyles. This too to make the celebrations more elaborate.

This is the day that still pulls the siblings together. The increasing physical distances evoke the desire to be together even more. They try to reach out to each other on the Raksha Bandhan day. The joyous meeting, the rare family get-together, that erstwhile feeling of brotherhood and sisterhood calls for a massive celebration.

The sisters tie that thread of love to their brothers amongst chanting of mantras, put roli and rice on his forehead and pray for his well being. She bestows him with gifts and blessings. The brother also wishes her a good life and pledges to take care of her. He gives her a return gift. The gift is the physical acceptance of her love, reminder of their togetherness and a symbol of his pledge.

Well that is kind of an end to the rituals but the celebrations actually start after that. For the parents, it is a family reunion. Tasty dishes, wonderful sweets, exchange of gifts and sharing of past experiences.

For those who are not able to visit each other, rakhi cards and e-rakhis and rakhis through mails perform the part of communicating the rakhi messages. Hand made rakhis and self-made rakhi cards are just a representation of the personal feelings of the siblings.

Crux is that raksha bandhan brings people together in true spirit of all Indian festivals.

Now here's a few questions we would like to ask you on this occasion. Please answer truthfully! πŸ˜ƒ

1. Do you celebrate Raksha Bandhan? What's your opinion on this festival/tradition?

2. What is it that you look forward to most during Raksha Bandhan? Is it gifts? (like in the e-card above πŸ˜†)

3. Do you think we value this age old tradition as it was valued in the past? Some people think it has now become all commercialised. What's your say on this?

4. Can you name any famous Celebrities Bhai-Behen jodis? πŸ˜†

Once again.. a very very happyy Raksha Bandhan to everyone πŸ€—

Yes i do celebrate Raksha Bandhan every year. It's a beautiful festival. It's very special to me.

Well lots of money from my bro.πŸ˜†That's what he gives me every year.

3. Do you think we value this age old tradition as it was valued in the past? Some people think it has now become all commercialised. What's your say on this?
I agree that like all other festivals it has become commercialised too and its value is also less but for the brothers and sisters who love each other so much it will always be a memorable and beautiful day.

4. Can you name any famous Celebrities Bhai-Behen jodis? πŸ˜†

Yeah, we celebrate it! I think it's a very sweet tradition.. It gives the whole family the oppurtunity to get together, and have fun! πŸ˜ƒ And of course getting money/presents is allways fun! πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

2. What is it that you look forward to most during Raksha Bandhan? Is it gifts? (like in the e-card above πŸ˜†)
Truly, I look forward to spending time with my siblings and cousins.. We all live so far away from eachother now, that it's only on birthdays, functions or gatherings that we meet..  And then I think it's awesome to see all of them again! I could do without the presents.. πŸ˜‰ Sacchi! πŸ˜†

3. Do you think we value this age old tradition as it was valued in the past? Some people think it has now become all commercialised. What's your say on this?
The last few years it hasn't been all that fun since everyone has just come to tie the rakhi and then left without any appropiate gathering.. It makes it a whole lot better when we're all together and enjoy it rather then just completeing it like a formality..
I think it has lost some of it's value.. I mean, when I tie a rakhi on my cousin who's at least 12 years younger then me, and he's supposed to be the one protecting me, that's a bit odd.. πŸ˜†πŸ˜† But I think it's a sweet tradition, and I'm so glad we still celebrate it! Even if you're not in India, or can't do it properly (with the decoration and stuff!) it doesn't mean it's just commercial/formalitty.. Some actually do it cause they care! πŸ˜ƒ
It's a bit commercialized if you do it cause you have to and not cause you want to! πŸ˜‰ The way you do it doesn't matter as long as you do it cause you want to!

4. Can you name any famous Celebrities Bhai-Behen jodis? πŸ˜†
Had to make it related to the CFC section? πŸ˜‰πŸ˜†
Well, SK has 2 brother - but that's no Bhai-Behen jodi! πŸ˜†πŸ˜†
The only one I can think of now is Ekta Kapoor and Tushar Kapoor! (Just cause Henna mentioned it right now! πŸ˜†)

Happy Rakshabandan to everyone!! πŸ˜ƒ
