LONDON: Addicted to junk grub? Beware! Snacking on fast food and chomping in between meals can lead to weight gainπŸ˜³πŸ˜” and knock more than ten years off your life.

Yes, researchers in Britain have carried out a study and found that obesity is more dangerous than smokingπŸ˜³πŸ˜” as it can cut life expectancy by as much as 13 years.

"We must fight the notion that the current obesity epidemic arises from individual over indulgence or laziness aloneπŸ˜³πŸ˜”. We live in a consumer society which encourages us to eatπŸ˜³πŸ˜”. We have a sedentary lifestyle."πŸ˜³πŸ˜”

"It's an environment which means that if we just behave normally we will become obese.πŸ˜³πŸ˜” We may only put on a bit of weight a day but there are 365 days in the year,πŸ˜³πŸ˜”" according to lead researcher Professor David King.

Prof King, the British government's Chief Scientific Adviser, and his team of 250 scientists have published their study in a report, titled Foresight, on Wednesday.

The researchers have observed that being obese with a body mass index of more than 30 knocks nine years off a person's life while men with a BMI of more than 45 face nearly 13 years less life.

According to their findings, obesity -- which is now seen as "normal" -- not only leads to diabetes and heart disease but can also cause cancer, apart from various chronic health problems.πŸ˜³πŸ˜”

The researchers have also pointed out that the design of many towns and cities is based around the needs of the car and suggested more should be done to ensure that it's easier πŸ‘πŸΌπŸ˜Ž to walk to encourage residents to take more exercise.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ

"This will need a major culture change. The obesity issue is getting worse every year and we have not got much time to act," Prof King wrote.

I know how dangerous obesity is, but kya kare some foods taste so good 😭 Thanks for the article though. The best way to prevent obesity is helping kids take up healthy choices from an early age. Edited by samir_soni - 16 years ago

You're welcome Rimjhim.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ

Yes despite knowing how dangerous obesity is, there's a tendency to put on weight by eating foods that taste so good.πŸ˜•πŸ˜³πŸ˜”

Yes you're absolutely right in saying that the best way to prevent obesity is helping kids take up healthy choices from an early age.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ

Thanks for your feedback.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ

Oh! I see.πŸ˜³πŸ˜”

In my view perhaps it is better to take the middle path😊, not to be too rigid 😳 when it comes to individual choice 😊 and go for the homemade food preferably.πŸ˜ƒ

Perhaps, if home made food is taken / consumed in the right quantity / amount and at the right time then it might not lead to obesity.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ

True. Also if you skip some items like mayo while ordering a burger or fruits and nuts yogurt other than milkshakes it helps a lot. I was watching Food Network where they said you can ask for a half serving if the portions are too big.

Thanks for the infoπŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ, as I didn't know about it.πŸ˜•πŸ˜³
I do try increasing the number of serves of Daal and Rice (a typical South Indian vegetarian food)πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ so that I do not end up eating more than what is required.πŸ˜•πŸ˜³
I do consume Chapathis which are prepared using Ground Nut oil πŸ˜•πŸ˜³
but I've stopped eating / consuming ghee / butter.πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜ƒ
I do consumer butter on the rarest of the rare occasions.πŸ˜•πŸ˜³
Reading various articles about the hardening of arteries of people who consumer ghee and butter really scares me.🀒
But I just can't go/do without Chapathis that are prepared using the Ground Nut oil πŸ˜•πŸ˜³ as I'm a foodie.πŸ˜›πŸ˜•πŸ˜³
Moreover, I just can't skip having ice creams either πŸ˜› on some occasions.πŸ˜•πŸ˜³

No ghee in my family. I am a non-veg but all the cookings are done without ghee. It does not bother me caz I can't stand the smell of ghee.

I so love dal and rice so I get more dal or puffed rice (don't know what you call it in India) with rice so I eat less rice.

Arey baba, I was referring to the dairy product (sonda ghee in South Indian Urdu) that's made / derived from butter and not the cooking medium which is used instead of edible oil.😳
I'm also a non-vegetarian as my name Tanveer is self-explanatory (I'm not a Punjabi as assumed / thought by some people on I-F πŸ˜•πŸ˜³ but a Muslim).😊
Yes, my elders were indeed using that particular type of ghee, which you are referring to many years back.😳
But they've mercifully stopped using it long back.😊
Yes, I too can't stand the dishes prepared out of ghee or that have ghee as an ingredient or as a cooking medium.😳
I used to like sweets like Baadshah and Mysore Pak (South Indian sweet) prepared by using ghee as the cooking medium during my school days but not anymore.😳
Puffed rice is called as "Murmure😳" in South Indian Urdu.😊
I've to confirm it with my Aunt.😳
