The thinking man's Khan

Diminutive but definitive, Aamir Khan acts to a plan. A stickler for detail, Aamir made his acting debut as a child artiste in Nasir Hussain's 'Yadon Ki Baarat' (1973). He starred in Ketan Mehta's 'Holi' (1984), which went unnoticed. Khan broke into the big league with 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak' (1988). The post-QSQT phase was lean and he braved many a box office flop. He bounced back to form with Inder Kumar's 'Dil' (1990), which was followed up with hits such as 'Jo Jeeta Wohi Sikander' (1992), 'Rangeela' (1995), 'Ishq' (1997), 'Ghulam' (1998), 'Sarfarosh' (1999), 'Lagaan' (2001) and 'Dil Chahta hai' (2001). He took a four-year break and 'came back with 'Mangal Pandey-The rising'. The film recorded phenomenal initial pull, but failed to sustain collections and was gunned down by critics. An unfazed Aamir shot back with two back-to-back superhits, 'Rang De Basanti' (2006) and 'Fanaa' (2006). Aamir Khan Productions' 'Lagaan' won a nomination at the 2001 Oscars. His 'Raja Hindustani' is counted among the greatest of Bollywood grossers. Aamir's debut directorial 'Taare Zameen Par' has been acclaimed by critics and blessed by Mammon.
