DEBATE: My Pic as Avatar

I don't like the idea of you guys putting your pics up...I mean who knows who's out there looking at your pics...isn't this dangerous...ok ok I know I sound so melodramatic but you guys can't just trust people whom you met on the forums with your personal pics or information....How do you know that the person you are talking to might not be some sick guy who is some stalker....people I'm not joking here....I know I know, tons of people out there put there pics up but I'm saying this only for you guys' safety...You can't just trust anyone you talk to, believe me....my own friend for example once put her pic up, some sick 50 year old saw it who lives nearby her and started taking pics of her and exploiting her online, stalking her and really harassing her....

Look Vijay, your intensions are probabaly good and all but I'm not comfortable with the fact that you are encouraging others to do the same as you by putting their pics up

I think most people here are respectable and mods woud definately take care of someone who was doing anything indecent. I know if anyone messed with people here I would get rid of them if I could.

How can you even say that?!?You don't even know who these people are!!How do you know that this isn't just an act??That's the thing, you DON'T, don't trust strangers no matter how they SEEM....

With all good things- come bad things. That does not mean we stop in our tracks because 'maybe' someone will have bad intentions. Look at the net- it is so informative and I have made such good friends (like HERE!) but it is used for disgusting things like child-porn and worse things I will not mention.

That also does not mean that you should be reckless about your safety

I totally disagree with the idea that posting an avatar of yours would grab attention of a stalker staying near your house. This is something that goes out of my mind completely. Now take an instance you walking the street and a stalker notices you and follows you to your home what will you do?

Well I cannot force someone who do not want to post their pic. If some one is uncomfortable sharing their pic and wants to remain anonymous that's their wish.

Few members may not post their pic as their religion do not allow women to share their pics except with their relatives but thats totally understandable.

If we see from the other angle of posting your pic as that may bring good friends too.

Anonymous I respect your concerns but you are sounding as if somebody told you that if you dont put up your pic we will cancel your membership!!

Cheer-up we are not forcing someone we are just recommending people to put up thier pic to make the forum more colorful and to connect better. 

Also you need not put your pic on the net to get noticed by a stalker. You saw your friend was harressed by someone who was staying nearby. It means that guy must be having an eye on her for a long time. Its just purely unlucky that her identity was realised via net. That is the sad part of life, but then the stalking part can happen and has happened with someone who is not even a little bit of net savy or connects to net once a week.

The above doesnot means that I would want you to let your gaurd down, you are perfectly correct in what you are saying and we are not also exactly wrong in what we are doing. But all I want to say is that you need not put your photo on net to get in trouble. Also these are simple pics they are not in a compromising position that will give someone an opportunity to take advantage of you.

Again I would like to conclude, we are just asking you to put up your photo to make the forum more colorful and for people to connect better. but then its solely your choice to do it or not.

But that's the thing...it has happened...to her and to me....once me and her were on the train and these group of 50 year old men were staring at us but we didn't know at the time that they were talking pics of various body parts....I once became friends with this guy online once who said he was 16 years old...but at the end he turned out to be 42 and had tried to get my address, had found a way to get into my email accounts...A stalker, a rapist, a killer doesn't have to stay near your house to find you....

anonymous is right in her own way... these things are possible... but like jen has said.. with good things..come bad things.. and this is part of life... so guys take it easy...and relax...

I agree with Anonymous.....it is true that ppl who are members of this grop are good and respectable ppl but this group is an open group too....evey day million of ppl come and read the updates and posts which are not even members......they can be anyone..... we know each other but we don't know who else is coming and looking at us and mayber they take advantage of it. the avatar can be saved on any computer....

but then the its a free country if any of u want to have ur pic on avatar....go a head and do so.....

I agree with anonymous and ms. bholi bhali. Ofcourse the members in this group are all very nice and I couldn't even think of someone doing such a thing. But then again, this group is open to all visitors and guests. So even though i can trust all members here, i can't trust everyone coming to i-forums. I know I am very precautious but that is just me... for those who want to post thier pic... go ahead.
