Donations to Kashi Vishwanath temple now tax free (Lead, Supersedes earlier version)

Lucknow, March 20 (IANS) Donations to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi will now enjoy 100 percent income tax exemption.

Lucknow, March 20 (IANS) Donations to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi will now enjoy 100 percent income tax exemption.

The income tax department recently approved the proposal under Section 80 GGA clause, an official said Wednesday.

The Uttar Pradesh government has also permitted the Kashi Vishwanath Trust to use its funds to build hospitals and schools.

The temple trust will now on function on the lines of the Tirupati Balaji Trust of Andhra Pradesh.

The income tax exemption on donations received by the trust so far was up to 50 percent.
