Action against Colors over 'Big Boss' commercial

The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed the central government to take action within a week against TV channel Colors for using the national anthem to promote reality show "Bigg Boss 6" in cinema halls across the country.

The Delhi High Court Wednesday directed the central government to take action within a week against TV channel Colors for using the national anthem to promote reality show "Bigg Boss 6" in cinema halls across the country.

The court gave the directions after hearing a PIL against the channel for running a commercial of the Salman Khan-hosted show wherein an audio demanded that all present in the hall should "stand up for the national anthem" as Big Bigg Boss wanted it.

A division bench of Chief Justice D. Murugesan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said: "In the wake of serious allegations levelled by the petitioner that the national anthem is disrespected, we direct the central government to treat this PIL as representation and the grievances be dealt with in accordance with the law."

The court added that "necessary action would be taken by the ministry concerned against the respondents within a week".

The PIL filed by Jeetender Gupta, a lawyer, alleged that Colors has "disrespected" the national anthem by using it to promote the realty show in various PVR multiplexes in the city as well as in other parts of the country.

"The Colors channel randomly displayed an advertisement inside the movie theatres and the said advertisement was in the form of a visual displaying the logo of its programme 'Bigg Boss 6' followed by an audio demanding all present in the hall to stand up for the national anthem.

"'Bigg boss chahte hain ki aap rashtriya gaan ke liye khade hon', (Bigg boss wants you to stand for the national anthem) and then the Indian National Anthem was played," the petition stated.

It further added: "The respondent (TV channel) is trying to associate itself with the national anthem solely for commercial purpose of promoting its latest TV programme."

The plea said: "The acts of TV channel and PVR amount to possible violations of the Prevention of Insults to National Honour Act 1971 and the Emblems and Names (prevention of improper use) Act 1950."

they should then charge those people who doesn't get up for National Anthem. because that is more disrespectful then anything. At least big boss is telling everyone to get up, for National Anthem.

Thank God the channel was punished!
Never would I imagine, that the NATIONAL ANTHEM will be used in such a disgraceful manner. But then again, this is Bigg Boss. This show will stoop to the lowest levels to increase TRPs and for promotion of the show.
I am glad the channel was punished! They should think before doing such a horrifying act again.
AND TO ALL THE PEOPLE SAYING ITS JUST A SMALL THING: Guys, we are talking about the NATIONAL ANTHEM here. IT IS A BIG DEAL. I guess you would want people burning the flag of India as well, right? A flag of a country and the national anthem of a country hold the same importance. They both represent a country so when either one of those is disrespected, the country is disrespected as well.

and whats the point of punishing the channel and show thats so stupid just tell the chaneel to stop the advertisment in cicnemas thats it

If BB Team Dont have Brains What Happend to Channal Directors . Very Sad , Very Cheap How come channal Promoted its Show in this Weird Way :-( . This Kind of Shows should be Banned and Channal Should be asked to Pay Huge Amount of Money for Punisshment as a compensation of its Cheap way and its cheap ethics of using National Anthem for Bloody Skin show.

@everyone who is saying the show should be banned - which show is anyways giving any social message on TV? so waise to all shows should be banned...it is an entertainment show which brings TRPs for channel, am not saying the show is doing good for society but then you always have the option to not watch it ...about where our country is heading to, I think there are a lot more serious issues in our country which we need to worry about rather than the impact of bigg boss on viewers...just my POV, no hard feelings...
