Deepshikha Nagpal to act in a Gujarat play Mari Bhairi Aatankvadi!

Bold and beautiful Deepshikha Nagpal who was last seen in Nautanki Films’ popular show Madhubala - Ek Ishq Ek Junoon on Colors is all set to debut in Gujarati Theater.

TellyBuzz contacted Deepshika to know more about her new venture.

Deepshikha says she likes challenges and also talks about the importance of doing a theater, "I like challenges, I used to hear all saying that if you have not done a theater you are not an actor so I always used to think what is that special in doing a theater that only if expertise in theater you are known as a serious and great actor."

"Before Gujarati, I did a Hindi play titled as Gulam Begum Badshah with Rajpal Yadav. We did 25-30 shows all over the world but were not showcased in Bombay. I enjoyed thoroughly doing shows and its fun as there are live audiences watching you and it feels proud if your act gets successful," she adds.

What restricted Deepshika from doing plays in Gujarati theater? She says, "Actually I wanted to do Gujarati theater before but it didn't happen as story was not interesting and something else came my way so couldn't make it. Then I made a film which was very time consuming so I couldn't dedicate time for theater, be in Gujarati or Hindi, one has to give ample of time for rehearsals, we did 20 days rehearsals and you have to be present as your presence is important. Even for light set-up or sound, the actors are supposed to be present. So lot of hard work is involved in it and it is time consuming which I couldn't do it before.”

After her stint in the popular show Madhubala ended, Deepshikha says that the producer Ganshambhai encouraged her to do Gujarati plays, “Now after Madhubala I got free time and none of role of Television excited me, at that time the producer Ganshambhai approached me for the play. In the beginning I was saying no as I felt it will be difficult to devote time for the shoot but then it happened. But the credit goes to Ghansham Sir as he was the one who motivated me a lot. He was behind me to play this role and he stated that no one else can play this role except me which encouraged me a lot. I accepted the challenge and I performed it."

Talking about Deepshika's role and the concept of the play she added, "Whoever I tell about my role they start laughing as they say I totally fit into the character as I am also little strict in my life and follow rules and regulations. The story of the play Mari Bhairi Aatankvadi is about a woman who is a terrorist and like a doting mother she is too concerned about her family and children. She also yells on her family members whoever does anything wrong. Since she is 7th Std failure no one takes her seriously and all of a sudden goons come and threaten to kill them if their demand is not met.

As the family is a spendthrift so nothing is left behind for fulfilling their basic necessities. In such crisis how the lady handles the situation and takes out her family from the trouble is the story all about. It gives away a positive message to the audiences’. There are many variations in my character like I have played a village girl then a housewife who then turns into a modern woman. I love my role it's quite challenging and I am happy to be a part of it."

Further she adds, "Whenever I go to watch a play, I laugh the most and all the people keep saying that I should be in the audience as I laugh the loudest. In fact I enjoy each and every sentence. There are many one liner and punches in our play. During the rehearsal I only kept laughing and was worried on the final day I shouldn't be keep laughing on the stage. Finally all happened good and I got to enjoy a lot."

So how has been the response for the play? Deepshikha says, "There were 600 people who were present in the theater. The auditorium was full and the audiences’ were amazed with the play. I got a lot of appreciation for my role and acting which helped me to build more interest and confidence to act further for the next play."

When asked Deepshikha about her future plans she says, "I am getting many offers for TV shows as I have done lot of side roles, now I am waiting for a good project to come my way, where I can show my acting ability. I am looking forward to act now only as a main protagonist in TV shows."
