Cooking non vegetarian dishes is my specialty: Anas Rashid

Along with being a good actor, the handsome actor Anas Rashid is a good cook too. TellyBuzz quizzed the actor to know more about his culinary skills.

Anas RashidWe all have seen the simple and humble guy Suraj winning accolades for his culinary skills in Star Plus' Diya Aur Baati Hum. Well, Suraj aka Anas Rashid is a good cook in his real life as well. Apart from his acting talent, the handsome actor Anas is also known for his excellent culinary skills. He cooks really well and TellyBuzz quizzed the actor to know more about his cooking skills.

When did you start cooking? How did you learn cooking?

I started cooking in  the year 2000 and it happened to me as a compulsion because the main chef of our restaurant ran away one day. It was a big problem for us then so I searched for him and found him in Rohtak, Haryana. So, I called him back to the restaurant and then I started noticing him as to how he cooks so that I can manage the kitchen in his absence. I started cooking sometimes in his absence and I got interested in it and people appreciated the taste of my dishes as well. This is how I started with cooking.

Have you also learned cooking from your Mom?

My restaurant 'Mehrab' was in my hometown, Malerkotla Punjab but we never used to serve Punjabi dishes in our restaurant but the flavor of our home is Punjabi. So, I have got training in making sweet dishes from my Mom.

What is your specialty in cooking?

Non-vegetarian dishes like Butter Chicken, Palak Mutton, Kabab, Safri Kabab, Koftas are the special dishes I cook.

How often do you cook at home?

Recently, I cooked Butter Chicken after 6 long years which was 3-4 days back and I invited Kanica Maheshwari and her husband Ankur and he kissed my hands saying let me do this honor to my chef who has cooked so well (laughs). He liked it so much that he told me that he has never had this kind of delicious butter chicken in life.

Anas Rashid and Deepika in Diya Aur Baati HumDo you also cook and take food on the sets?

Yes, I do that. Recently I took Butter Chicken for everyone on the sets and everyone liked it.

What kind of compliments do you get when you take dishes cooked by you on the sets?

I get compliments like, "Hum Apse dosti isliye bana ke rakhte hain, ki ap achcha khana khilate ho!" I really like it when someone compliments me saying, "Aapka khana khakar pata chalta hai ki aap kitne bade khandani log ho."

How often do you take food on the sets?

I take food daily on the set which is cooked by my cook though the recipe is mine but it rarely happens when I cook on my own and take it on the sets.

Will you be cooking after your marriage?

Of course I will; not every day but I will cook sometimes like if some guests come over to my place, if I am in a mood to cook or wife ka gussa thanda karne ke liye. I don't cook professionally; I cook when I am in a mood to do so or just for time pass. Cooking for me is like acting in a daily soap. You have to continue the art of cooking if you  want to cook. Like, when I recently cooked Butter Chicken after a gap of 6 years, I was not satisfied with it, even though everybody else liked it. So, you have to keep the practice of cooking in the kitchen so that you keep creating good dishes or if you end up entering the kitchen after a long gap then you will come out cooking Maggi or Noddles.

What is your idea of a romantic dinner?

My idea of a romantic dinner won't depend on the food platter rather it will depend on the place. My appetite will be killed with excitement to be with my date so I won't care much about what I am having in my plate. The place will be more important for me as to where I am having dinner with her.

How does cooking satisfy you?

It satisfies me a lot. Serving good food to your guests is the key part of hospitality. It is very much noticed and appreciated all over. How we welcome our guests and how we treat them is important too. If I have cooked well then they can eat it sitting anywhere and appreciate the dish cooked by me. I will be satisfied as a host if I serve good food to my guests.
